Andrew shares about what lessons can be taken away from leading organizations and climbing mountains. We also dig into his book entitled, Carry a Flag from Pain to Passion. Andrew also talks about the importance of knowing what our 'Why' is. Quote, When you "have a why to live, you can bear with almost any how" (Viktor Frankl) . Identify you why "so that" (Simon Sinek, Start with Why).

Welcome to another episode of Twins Talk it Up. My twin and I are thrilled to have our friend Joel Landi of The Performance Group join us. Joel is a speaker, author and a business performance coach. He is the author of the book, Rewired: Power up your Performance, Relationships & Purpose.

We ask Joel about his professional background and his love for racing motorcycles. We then take a deep dive into his book as he shares why it is so important to to identify and challenge limiting beliefs, as they are the root of resistance to change. Joel believes that the brain can be 'rewired' for our benefit and growth. He also shares stories of infusing elements of adventure through exhilarating excursions; and how these can be monumental for confronting fear and igniting change.

In this Episode of Twins Talk it Up, we want to honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day also known as MLK Day is a federal holiday in the United States marking the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is a day to remember and celebrate his life and his achievements. It is a day to honor his legacy and sacrifice by serving our communities and sharing stories of sacrifice, struggle and victory. 

We wanted to highlight 3 aspects of his leadership - 3 key areas we all can emulate as leaders. Dr. King was a voice and model of these 3 keys of great leadership: Empathy A Learner Speak up

Great leaders make it a goal to understand those they have the privilege of leading. Can you walk a mile in someone else's shoes? Can you grasp what they are feeling? Empathy is a willingness to link arms and march together.

Leaders love to learn. They are just as committed to being great students as they are to being great teachers, trainers - to being great leaders. Invest in your own personal and professional growth.

Leaders speak up even when it's uncomfortable. They speak when others cannot. They speak because a message needs to be heard. Don't run from challenging conversations. Leaders speak up.

In this episode of the Twins Talk it Up Podcast, we are joined by my good friend Kevin Johnson. Kevin is a speaker, writer, trainer, pastor, and the CEO of the Johnson Leadership Group.

Today's topic is on Servant Leadership and Kevin is the ideal guest as he has not only authored a book on this; but he also delivers trainings and keynote speeches around what it means to be a servant leader. We ask about his journey and what eventually led him to writing his book entitled, Leadership with a Servant's Heart: Leading through Personal Relationships.

Servant leaders show they at they care and take a genuine interest in their people. They find ways to serve them and lead by example. Servant leaders are also great listeners and great communicators. Imagine the impact that can be made and how the overall corporate culture can be impacted by this type of leadership.

Kevin shared about what he calls the "Iceberg effect". What you see is only around 20% of the iceberg and when you equate that to people, you can miss the other 80% - 80% of who they really are. His point is to not make quick judgments but to get the know who they really are. Understand the power and importance of recognition.

Happy New Year! We are thrilled to begin Season 2 of the Twins Talk it Up Podcast. In this first episode of 2021, we wanted to talk about the importance of setting goals. 

We briefly reflect back on 2020: the health pandemic, call for social justice, the struggle for security & sense of normalcy. We then jump into setting goals for this New Year. We challenge you to ask the question of 'What’s next?'

Far too many people wait for things to happen to and for them. And then there are those who go after something; they are intentional. It is the ones who go after something who experience true growth and success.

Here are a few things to consider when setting 2021 goals:

Write your goals down

-Establish a goal around each of these 5 categories: Personal, Relational, Financial, Physical & Business/Professional.

Measure & implement

-Create or use systems for achieving your goals. Consider the SMART acronym. SMART stands for: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Relevant & Time.

Build habits

-Work backwards from your stated goals and develop habits. Don't forget to 'make your bed'.

Twins talk it Up Episode 24: Facial Communication

In this episode, we are thrilled to spend some time with author, trainer and speaker Dan Hill. Dan is an expert on facial decoding, identifying and capturing emotions and is the President of Sensory Logic.

Dan tells others that he quantifies 'gut reactions' based on peoples' facial expressions. Actions speak louder than words and our body language, specifically our faces 'speak' the loudest. There are 23 expressions on the face that reveal 7 core emotions. Muscle movement in the face reflect interest level and this can help executives close more deals.

Through his trainings and his books entitled Emotionomics & Famous Faces Decoded, Dan shows how emotions can be hidden in plain sight on all of our faces. Facial coding is a tool to learning how emotions shape, reflect our personalities and drive behavior. They can also benefit professionals and organizations with uncovering opportunities by leveraging emotions for success in branding, product design, advertising, sales, customer satisfaction, leadership, and employee management.

Dan also shared about his latest work on a book entitled, The Devil's Dictionary, not be confused by Ambrose Bierce. He goes into other aspects of emotions through this book and will challenges readers to think and behave differently.

Take your own emotional temperature. Become self-aware. He also puts a charge to our listeners to take it to another level.

Twins talk it Up Episode 23: Building Trust

In this episode of Twins Talk it Up, Danny and I welcome Matt Blake. Matt is the President of Blake Consulting and Sales Training. Matt is an incredible leader and supports business owners and professionals with training and coaching.

We asked Matt to define trust and to share about why this is such a critical component in determining the success of a leader. Trust goes both ways as executives and owners need to trust in their people as much as they hope and expect for their people to trust in them and in their leadership.

Organizational culture is reflected in the amount of autonomy and trust employees feel that they have to not only do their jobs but to support the overall growth of the company. More executives need to take an active interest in their people and understanding what makes them 'tick'? Executives should learn more about who their people are and actually listen to them. They need to ask how the company can help employees meet their personal goals? This is where trust begins.

Trust is reflected when people are not afraid to make decisions or make mistakes. Every mistake can be correctable. Matt said that if mistakes are not being made, then people aren't learning and growth is not taking place. Mentor, coach and stop 'managing' and watch trust turn into a great organizational culture.

We look to define what integrity is and why it matters in business. We appreciate C Mack sharing personally from his experiences as it pertains to our topic. He opens up about what he learned from his career and the opportunities that are present for every leader.

Warren Buffet shared that when he hires professionals, he looks for character. He specifically said that he looks for Intelligence, Initiative and Integrity. If it can be identified that the professional lacks integrity, the other 2 qualities don’t even matter. Build great organizations with the right professionals from the beginning. This is how you create a culture of integrity.
