Happy mid-month everyone!
Here is an episode from about a year ago. Kim and Jen had an ongoing discussion regarding how possible it is to pee in a Snapple bottle, as SJP did in an episode of AND JUST LIKE THAT. ENJOY the rewind!
Jen and Kim review the Snapple poll results. They also ask the age-old question: Should drinking your partner's blood be part of your engagement ritual? Do we really need the National Guard and parents to step to substitute? Should we lower the qualification standards to be a teacher right now?
They also answer a listener request to give tips on how to survive the end of the year whether you are staying or leaving the field of education. Finally, they compare the nursery rhyme, Little Bo Peep, to education.

We had the opportunity to speak with the marvelous Eric James Stephens, Ph.D. this past week about all things ChatGPT. He talks about the efficacy of CHATGPT in the classroom and how educators can leverage this technology to empower students and ease teacher workload.
We talked about what it is, what it does, how mind-blowing it is, ways to use it in the classroom, the ethics involved, and writing instruction in general. It was a great conversation!
More about Dr Eric James Stephens: He went from post-secondary instruction into the world of analytics and Ed-Tech.
If you've ever taught any class that assigns writing, Dr. Stephens wants to hear your thoughts on #grading, the state of student #writing, and #ChatGPT.
Please take a moment to fill out the survey. Feel free to share this too!

We had a a great discussion this time last year talking about the same issues in education that we are still dealing with. Do you have the Sunday Scaries? Hide in your closet and give a listen!
Jen and Kim welcome the new year with their winter break stories. (Kim gets to the bathroom just in time wearing her new badass boots in Nashville.) Jen talks about the history of teacher shortages. Giving teachers orchids or jeans passes isn't enough of an incentive to stay. They introduce an upcoming new segment where they will be interviewing educators about major topics in education. They also give their opinion on why Peter Pan is an ass, and why Tinkerbell had unresolved rage issues.

This one is coming in hot with the cell phones in the classroom discussion. Why aren't parents supporting teachers? Why are people attacking teachers for asking for cellphone policy support? Kim and Jen review some salty comments on Kim's Tik Tok and some solutions from Jen's Linedin poll. There's also a rant or two from Kim..maybe three.Twisted Teachers Podcast wants to hear from you!

Hello!
Happy 2023! This episode is coming out late due to that crazy thing called Kim's crazy shit show life. It's fine, everything is fine...really it is.
Kim and Jen talk about how Hell's Kitchen is like teaching. Jen has some manifestations for the new year, and they discuss why one-night friends will haunt you forever.
We want you to know that we appreciate all of your support. We hope that in the upcoming year, we can bring you joy, laughs, and strategies to move past the world of education, or learn to love it again.

Anneliese Pixton is a former educator who created SUB Planit. This is a program that streamlines sub-planning for individual teachers or schools. They talk about what subs really need in sub plans, and how to prevent unwanted interruptions when a teacher is out sick. It was a great conversation!Twisted Teachers Podcast wants to hear from you!

If you have been in the education world for a minute and taught writing, chances are high that you know of Ralph Fletcher. He is the author of Craft Lessons, Writing Workshop: The Essential Guide, and What a Writer Needs. Not only does he write books for teachers, but he has also written picture books, and chapter books-one which is one of Jen's favorite read alouds-Flying Solo, He has written books for young adults and poetry books.
We were thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to Ralph, but we are saddened that this interview came about because one of his poetry books: A Writing Kind of Day is being challenged in Franklin County, VA schools because of his poem Bill of Sale that is included in that book. Someone came before their board asking that it be banned-saying that the last line encouraged white children to commit suicide.
We talked about book bannings and all things writing. We really could not be prouder of this episode. We were both in tears at the end when we reflected on the interview. Go and live a writing kind of life.
Ralph has some resources he would like to share:
1) Get Focused. This is a series of videos produced by Heinemann in which I speak directly to kids. These short videos (about 5 or 6 minutes long) are like mini-lessons. In the end I send the kids off to write. I think teachers will enjoy having high-quality writing instruction they can plug into their own instruction. Here's the link:
https://www.heinemann.com/products/e13524.aspx
2) New picture book--The World's Loneliest Elephant. I've attached the cover. It's about Kaavan, who was locked in a Pakistan zoo for 35 years. Many people---ordinary citizens and celebs like "the" Cher--worked together to get him released. I'll attach the cover. The illustrator did a fabulous job. This picture book is coming out in late summer.
3) New edition of A Writer's Notebook. (See attached cover) I have added seven new chapters (including "Writing in the Digital Age") to update the book. This book will come out in January

Kim and Jen discuss sub planning and give some tips on creating plans that won't result in mayhem and a three-page note from the sub. They tell about the dirty Santa party to which teenagers were invited. There was an open bar and many bad decisions were made. Kim shares more toxic positivity stickers. Remember to be a rainbow in someone's cloud, eve if they like their cloud just the way it is!

We were honored to have interviewed Angela. She is transparent and empathetic to what teachers go through. If you are thinking of the next step in your journey, listen to this episode.
Angela Watson is a National Board Certified Teacher with a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. She has 11 years of classroom experience and over a decade of experience as an instructional coach.
Angela created this website as a young teacher in 2003 to share practical classroom ideas and help other educators build a positive mindset so they can truly enjoy their work. It was originally called “Ms. Powell’s Management Ideas for Teachers” until 2008, when it was renamed “The Cornerstone for Teachers” after her first book.
Rebranded in November 2021 to Truth for Teachers, the site now impacts over 8 million educators annually.
Angela’s ideas have been featured in thousands of magazine articles, newsletters, and internet resources, and utilized in teacher preparation and support programs throughout the nation. She has authored numerous printable curriculum resources, online courses, and five books. Her newest book, entitled “Fewer Things, Better: The Courage to Focus on What Matters Most” was released in 2019.
She is perhaps best known for her free Truth for Teachers podcast, which provides weekly encouragement for educators and consistently ranks in the top K-12 podcasts in the world.
Angela’s professional development on productivity is being used in over 28,000 schools through the 40 Hour Workweek program. First designed for teachers and then expanded to instructional coaches and administrators, 40 Hour helps educators become more intentional with their personal, contractual, and instructional time so they can focus on what really matters.
Angela’s mission is to help teachers live a more purposeful and conscious life. Through her mentorship, countless teachers have learned to take charge of their time and energy so they can prevent burnout and stay in the profession they love for years to come.
