The day many of us had been waiting for finally arrived. Justin Fuente is out at Virginia Tech. While there are some mixed emotions, this is ultimately a good day for the future of the Hokies. Robbie and Pete break down Whit Babcock's press conference and discuss potential candidates before recapping Duke and previewing Miami. Once again, every episode is brought to you by Downtown Crown Wine and Beer and Dominion Wine and Beer, the official sponsor of Two Deep's 2021 football coverage.
The Hokies found new levels of ineptitude in a demoralizing 17-3 loss to BC. Robbie and Pete's depression turns to exasperation in this one, as they attempt to wrap their heads around the current state of the VT football program. For the Duke preview, the guys got some help from loyal listener Chris Givens, who went to Tech, but grew up a Duke football fan. He knows something about pain, and provides some great insight into the matchup. Once again, every episode is brought to you by Downtown Crown Wine and Beer and Dominion Wine and Beer, the official sponsor of Two Deep's 2021 football coverage.
Back in the win column. It took a few weeks, but VT finally got their 4th victory of the season against GT. The guys recap all the action and discuss why the offense looks respectable all of the sudden. A trip to Chestnut Hill is up next to face the struggling BC Eagles. Can BB and the offense do it again on the road? These next couple games are critical to bowl eligibility. Pain. Last-second losses are becoming all too common for VT as the Hokies fail to close out yet another opponent. Pete and Robbie are running out of things to say at this point; it seems as if the fate of our head coach is sealed. The guys do their best to move on to GT and actually provide some optimism for the matchup down in Atlanta. That was an ugly one. Virginia Tech's offense was lifeless in a 28-7 loss to Pitt. Pete, flying solo on this one, recaps what happened on Saturday, and previews what we might expect to see vs. Syracuse. Another punch in the gut. A huge, top-15 win was within reach, but Tech let it slip through its fingers. Despite the ending, it was a heroic effort by Braxton Burmeister. Let's hope some of that fight spills over into the Pitt matchup. The Panthers are 4-1 and are scary on offense. VT is going to have to find a way to keep up with Kenny Pickett and Co. Recharged and refreshed after a bye week, the Hokies host the Fighting Irish on Saturday night. The guys catch you up on what's been happening in CFB before diving deep on Notre Dame. Coming off a tough loss to Cincinnati, Brian Kelly should have his team ready to go. For Tech, a win would change the way we perceive this team drastically. Let’s hope the boys can pull it off! After a sloppy game, the Hokies head into the bye week at 3-1. Pete and Robbie recap what happened and discuss what's wrong with the VT offense. The bye comes at a good time, as the team certainly needs to get some things figured out before Notre Dame. That was a punch in the gut. A VT win was a long shot at halftime, but it seemed like the Hokies were going to pull it off at the last second. Despite the painful ending, it was an extremely valiant effort by the team down the stretch. Cornelson and the offense have big time questions going forward; can they get it together before ND comes to town? Richmond should provide a chance to build some momentum. We got the W, that's all that matters. After a bit of a slow start, the Hokies took it to the MTSU Blue Raiders in the second half. Pete and Robbie recap the "vanilla" afternoon, and enjoy some fall beers in the process. Now, a big test awaits down in Morgantown vs. the Mountaineers. The guys are pumped for this one, but are nervous about the Hokies' chances in what should be a raucous environment. Cross your fingers.
