Two Men and a Doc episodes

  • 67. A case in progress, plus updates!

Follow ups from two recent cases - an update about The Doc's son uncovers more questions; and from Episode 59 where we last knew an infection in an older man was caused by a fistula from the intestine, but were waiting to find out the biopsy results.  Then a new case - an 18 year-old comes in with severe groin pain that seemed to come out of nowhere.  After a lot of research and questions The Doc starts to narrow down the cause.

  • 66. When the patient is your son - Part 2

The conclusion to The Doc's emotional and exhausting journey to figure out the cause of his son's weeks long illness, labeled a 'fever of unknown origin' until a more specific diagnosis can be made.

If you haven't already, listen to Part 1 (episode 65) before listening to this episode for full context.

The Doc takes us through his son's recent illness and the harrowing string of events that occurred as a team of doctors on two coasts tried to figure the cause and treatment.  It also brought up the inevitable crossroad of being a doctor and parent and how The Doc had to navigate those two roles, sometimes realizing he needed to let the doctors do their job when his most important role was as dad and husband.

  • From the archives - Shutdown continues

Two Men and a Doc is on a short break so here's an episode from exactly 1 year ago.  We were just over 2 weeks into the shutdown, trying to adjust to our new normal while we pondered the many unknowns in our near future.  It's an interesting snapshot of what we were all going through a year ago and the conversations we were having.  Listen in to hear what we got right, what we got wrong, and some of our more prescient thoughts.

Here's the show notes from 3/20/20:

As we go into week 3 of 'Shelter in Place' the guys discuss how different people are dealing with the social distancing guidelines, why the 'end' of this phase is not the end at all, where we might expect the next spikes in cases to be, and an eye-opening conversation about what life might look like 6 months from now when nerves will still be very much on edge.

  • 61. What’s that smell?

There are 9 reasons you might have 'malodorous urine' or the less formal, 'smelly pee.'  Some are pretty innocuous but at least one could be potentially deadly.  The Doc explains.  Plus, how did a former 'Bond girl' and Charlie's Angel die of a UTI, and the guys get to open some listener mail.
