John and Paul had the pleasure of talking with internationally renowned Chef John Higgins. Mr. Higgins has been practicing his craft for over four decades. He was Queen Elizabeth's Chef for some time and has worked at so many high-profile restaurants, it would be impossible to list them all. He spent many years - and has just retired - as the Director of Enterprises and Brand Ambassador for the Center for Culinary Arts at George Brown College in Toronto.
John relates some great anecdotes, drops a few names, and talks about what it takes to make it in the culinary world.
A scholarship has been set up in John Higgin's name through the Center for Culinary Arts. "The Chef John Higgins Award of Excellence will support students enrolled in Chef School, Centre for Hospitality and Culinary Arts." Please consider donating to this scholarship. Here is the link ...

Here we get to interview cartoonist Jim Shoenbill. Jim's works have appeared in numerous publications and on many websites. His humour is quirky and sometimes quite subtle and sometimes slightly irreverent.
We learned a lot. In fact, at one point I thought we were wrapping up, but we continued to talk.
Jim is very personable and upfront about all aspects of cartooning and writing. Jim talks not only about his style, but there's also a lot of interesting info about the business side of it, too.

John and Paul had the opportunity to interview Colette Mesher from the Ontario Beekeepers' Association ("OBA"). Colette has a Ph.D. from the University of Plymouth in the United Kingdom. She is actively involved in the beekeeping industry working for commercial beekeepers, teaching workshops, and running her own beekeeping business. She is currently the OBA's "Technology Transfer Program Lead Specialist".
This was an extremely informative interview (to say the least). There's so much the average person does not know about bees! Colette talks about everything from pollination to honey to diseases and how to get started in the apiary world.

This is an interview with Brian Salt from the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Centre in south-western Ontario. Brian started Salthaven in the 1990s, and it has grown to the point where his team takes care of 2000 wild animals in need of help. This is an eye-opening talk about taking care of wild animals, what threatens them (you'd be surprised), and how Salthaven cares for and eventually releases them back into the wild.
Salthaven is in need of certain products on an ongoing basis, so if you can donate, please do so. They actually list those items that are most urgent at the bottom of their donations page here ...
https://www.salthaven.org/make-a-donation
Salthaven loves volunteers. Volunteer applications can be found on their website and are accepted beginning January each year for ages 16 with parents' consent, otherwise age 18 and over. They are also looking for skilled tradespeople, most notably carpenters. See here ...

Many of the items they need are also listed on their Amazon "Wish List" here ...

With the subject of ransomware appearing in the news media more and more, we thought it would be interesting to go right to the RCMP and talk about it. They were not only gracious and accommodating, but in this podcast we get to interview the Director General of their National Cybercrime Coordination Unit (NC3), Mr. Chris Lynam.
Chris has many, many years of experience dealing with security and intelligence issues for the Canadian Government and law enforcement agencies. His knowledge of the subject is vast. As you can imagine, he is a busy man, so we were thrilled that he took some time out of his schedule to talk with us.
You'll learn a lot listening to the Director General of NC3, Mr. Chris Lynam.
Know what "triple extortion" is? Did you know Bitcoin can be traced? Who does the NC3 liaise with internationally?
John and Paul would also like to thank ...
Kim Chamberland, Media Relations Officer
Robin Percival, Media Relations Officer
Margaret Riehle, Communications Strategist
... without whom this interview would not have happened.

The RCMP has asked me to mention the following ...
Victim reporting is key to addressing cybercrime incidents as it enables law enforcement to combat cybercrime and helps identify linkages across separately reported cybercrime incidents, such as links to organized crime.
Anyone who suspects they have been the victim of cybercrime, scam or fraud should report it to their local police of jurisdiction and to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre’s online reporting system or by phone at 1-888-495-8501. Please note, if someone experienced an incident but didn’t fall victim, they are still encouraged to report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

For more information on cybercrime, prevention and awareness please visit the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security and Get Cyber Safe and specifically the Cyber Threat Bulletin: Modern Ransomware and Its Evolution and Ransomware: How to Prevent and Recover.

Learn more about the National Cybercrime Coordination Unit (NC3) and the New cybercrime and fraud reporting system. On the reporting system webpage, you will see we are currently looking for small or medium-sized business owner volunteers to provide feedback on our pilot reporting website so that we can better understand what Canadian businesses need from a scam, fraud and cybercrime reporting service.
