Here is the #halfoweenathon wrap-up with a little bonus review of I Luv Halloween which is a horror manga that is apparently listed as young adult but I find it beyond PG.

I am participating in the Halfoweenathon: Monday April 29 - Sunday May 5
1. Read a book that has been adapted into a movie and then watch the movie. 2. Read a book by an indie author. 3. Read a book by a master of horror, e.g. King, Barker. 4. Read a book set in the Autumn. 5. Read something that is not a typical novel. e.g. short stories, graphic novel, poetry, etc. 6. Read a book released within the last 5 years. 7. Dress up in a costume and post it on social media. For the first one, I am reading The Ritual - and as such will celebrate on May 5 by watching the film over again. An indie author ties into the other ones as I finished reading The Toll by Mark Allen Miller on April 29 at 2 a.m. I started that evening well after my bedtime so I feel it counts. To cover two requirements, I am reading The Scarlet Gospels by Clive Barker. It has been out in the last five years, is a master of horror, and leads into the final bits.
I Luv Halloween 3 will be my graphic novel - I’ve read some of the Hellraiser comics as well to help flesh out my Harry D’Amour knowledge and satisfy the atypical ask. Today I get into the booktube #realtalk tag. I've watched a lot of these and am enjoying the discussion so here we go! 1. What is something nobody told you about booktube before you started your channel? 2. What is your opinion of typical booktube videos? 3. What is an assumption you had about booktube before you joined - was it proven correct, or not? 4. What is something you have done that has actually helped grow your audience? 5. What is a common mistake you see new booktubers making, or one that you made? 6. What are your thoughts on working with publishers and sponsorships? 7. Do you think booktube is dying? 8. Tag your friends. The original tag was created by: https://youtu.be/AuIil5h-vKk

"Five years prior to the publication of Gateways to Abomination, Matthew M. Bartlett put out a book called Dead Air. That book is now extremely scarce. This volume contains most of the unpublished work from that book, a few dark poems, and stories and fragments that later appeared in Gateways to Abomination and Creeping Waves. It also features magnificently creepy artwork by Yves Tourigny, as well as Tom Breen's original introduction. Witness the early days of dread magus Benjamin Stockton, and of his demonic radio station WXXT, with all its guts, worms, wriggling things, and voices from the dark."

From the jacket - "Although Scott Carey doesn’t look any different, he’s been steadily losing weight. There are a couple of other odd things, too. He weighs the same in his clothes and out of them, no matter how heavy they are. Scott doesn’t want to be poked and prodded. He mostly just wants someone else to know..."

Today we talk a little about The Carrow Haunt by Darcy Coates. "Remy is a tour guide for Carrow House, a notoriously haunted building. When she's asked to host seven guests for a week-long stay to research Carrow's phenomena, she hopes to finally experience some of the sightings that made the house famous."

This was a fine win for me from a Simon and Schuster Goodreads giveaway ~ The Beloveds by Maureen Lindley taps into the new gothic while remaining rooted in the here and now. An anti-romance with all the trappings of an estate home and garden featuring a fascinating lead in Elizabeth Stash who is on the surface not one to be feared, but within she not unlike the best poisonous blossom, dripping with venom.

These are some upcoming and currently reading books from my January and February TBR pile. Coming up soon is The Beloveds by Maureen Lindley and Odd Man Out by James Newman, then I will dig into these. Meant to post this a month ago, but better late than never! I got more interested in the Authortube tag and Into Painfreak review.

Into Painfreak is an anthology featuring the darkest and best hardcore horror authors of our time. All based on the original story, Painfreak, by Gerard Hoaurner, these tales pay homage to splatterpunk fiction of days gone by and usher us into a new age of insanity all at once.
