Joe Williams was just a kid from Queens chasing football dreams. 🏈🌪️

In this episode, we sit down with Joey, co-founder and co-host of U Heard, to tell the story that started long before the podcast launched in 2022. Growing up in Queens, New York, opportunities to play football weren’t exactly around every corner—but that didn’t stop him from falling in love with the game.

Joey takes us through his unlikely journey from the streets of NYC to

Emporia State University, where the culture shock was real, the bus rides home were long, and his teammates got a true taste of New York thanks to the legendary DJ Clue mixtapes he’d bring back to Kansas.

But through every mile, every challenge, and every adjustment, one thing stayed constant: his love for the Miami Hurricanes. Joey talks about becoming a Canes fan back in the early 80s, what drew him to The U, and why that connection has only grown stronger over time.

We also get into the deeper side of Joey’s story—especially the role his mother played as the driving force behind him finishing his Master’s degree. Her belief in him helped fuel the perseverance that still defines him today.
