It’s Wednesday, and this is our FINAL LOOK before the Canes pack their bags for Winston-Salem.
Miami hits the road Friday night for its first trip to Wake Forest since 2009, and waiting for the Canes is an undefeated Demon Deacons team led by QB Gio Lopez.
Lopez has been the engine of this Wake offense. After throwing for 350 yards and 3 TDs in the opener, he followed it up against Purdue by completing 16-of-27 for 225 yards and a touchdown, while adding 59 rushing yards and 2 more scores. Wake needed every bit of it, escaping West Lafayette with a 38-36 double-overtime win.
Through two games, that's 575 passing yards, 4 passing TDs, 98 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs and ZERO interceptions for Lopez.
So what does Miami have to worry about Friday night? How do you defend a quarterback who can hurt you with his arm AND his legs? Can the Canes make Wake one-dimensional? And after taking care of business against FAMU, are we about to find out a little more about this Miami team on a short week, on the road, under the Friday-night lights?
We’re breaking down the matchups, players to watch, keys to the game and everything we need to see from Miami before we head to Winston-Salem.
🎙️ U HEARD. FINAL LOOK. THEN WE HIT THE ROAD.

Miami handled business. Now a road trip to Winston-Salem is ahead. The #7 Hurricanes are 2-0 after absolutely overwhelming FAMU 77-7 in the home opener. Miami piled up a school-record 856 total yards, set another program record with 42 first downs, and scored touchdowns on 11 of its first 12 possessions.🔥 428 rushing yards🔥 428 passing yards🔥 856 total yards🔥 42 first downs🔥 11 offensive TDs🔥 Darian Mensah: 14/15, 252 yards, 3 TDs🔥 Miami held FAMU to just 107 total yardsBut you know the rule around here: 1-0 and move on.There’s no victory lap because Miami now gets a short week before heading to Winston-Salem for a Friday night ACC matchup against Wake Forest. And the Demon Deacons are coming in with some juice.Wake Forest just survived a wild 38-36 double-overtime win at Purdue, with QB Gio Lopez throwing for 225 yards while adding a team-high 59 yards on the ground and accounting for three touchdowns. So what did we actually learn from Miami's destruction of FAMU? Which young Canes earned themselves more snaps? And with Wake Forest sitting at 2-0, is Friday night the first real test of Miami's 2026 ACC run?FAMU is over. Wake Forest week starts NOW. 🌴🙌🔗 https://linktr.ee/uheardpod#MiamiHurricanes #GoCanes #CanesFootball #UHeard #ACCFootball

Miami flew more than 3,000 miles across the country and absolutely dismantled Stanford 45-6 to open the 2026 season. The Canes piled up 549 yards of offense, averaged 8.2 yards per play, scored touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions, and never allowed Stanford to find the end zone. And what a Miami debut for Darian Mensah.🎯 27/30 passing🔥 401 yards🏈 5 touchdowns🚫 0 interceptionsThen there’s Malachi Toney… or should we just say MALI BEING MALI?Toney went nuclear with 12 catches for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns, breaking Eddie Brown’s 42-year-old Miami single-game receiving record of 220 yards.Miami finished with 428 passing yards, converted 8 of 11 third downs, and held Stanford under 300 total yards. The Cardinal managed only two field goals all night.Today on U Heard, we’re breaking down everything from the 45-6 beatdown: Mensah’s ridiculous debut, Mali entering another stratosphere, what impressed us about the defense, what still needs cleaning up, and—because we know how this fanbase works—how much are we allowed to overreact after ONE game? 😂The mission was 1-0.Mission accomplished. ✅Now on to the next one.🎙️ Interested in sponsoring U Heard?Put your brand in front of a passionate and growing Canes community. Miami’s season opener is almost here, and now we finally have real film on Stanford. The Cardinal opened their season with a 37-27 win over Mountain West opponent Hawai‘i, but the final score doesn’t tell the whole story. Stanford built a 23-7 lead, watched Hawai‘i storm back to take a fourth-quarter lead, then responded when it mattered most. QB Davis Warren threw for 310 yards, while Micah Ford punched in three rushing touchdowns. So what are we overlooking? Was Stanford better than expected? Did Hawai‘i expose something Miami can attack? How much does Stanford benefit from already having a full game under its belt while Miami is making its season debut?Friday night in Palo Alto, the talking stops.🌴 Miami vs. Stanford🏈 GAME WEEK🎙️ We break down what we learned from Stanford-Hawai‘i and what it could mean for the Canes.🔗 https://linktr.ee/uheardpod#GoCanes #MiamiHurricanes #CanesFootball #TheU #UHeard
