Today, we're talking about Goals vs. Standards!

Yes, that's right, a mini deep dive into my own goals and standards from 2013 compared to 2023.

It's shocking how a look-back 10 years can paint a dismal reality. Seriously, I didn't have much in terms of goals or standards, other than knocking out long, working for a paycheck, and dreaming about the next social gathering, party, or weekend vacation. The truth is I was living for a dopamine hit of acceptance from other people who were striving for the same thing. While they were great people and fun to be around, the environment kept me in a never ending spiral of depression. Year after the year, the goals were laid out crystal clear; however, at the end of each year, the score didn't change much. It felt like I was a hamster running on a spinning wheel.

Fast-forward 5 to 10 years, let's say present day now. I've been developing better habits, thoughts, systems and processes, and actions, all which now translate into higher standards. In turn, these standards drive my actions towards the goals of tomorrow. I can see clearly how I create opportunities by being prepared and ready the next before, in many cases. It takes the guess work out of attempting to figure out what I am going to wear or what exercises I need to crush at the gym. Plus, these standards are developing higher quality relationships with friends, family, and expanding the sphere of influence in my community.
