Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 119: Hi, Raeanna! (Neopets, “Sister Act 2: Back In the Habit”, and “Clue”)

Hey, everyone! This week is our final week of Auguest, and we are closing out the month with our first solo guest, the lovely and talented Raeanna from Mount Olympus University! We start out by learning about a thing we don’t know anything about, then move on to talk about a couple of movies James knows quite a bit about and Erin has only seen once before. (Spoiler: They’re good movies, Brent.)

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art. You can find more of Jamie’s music on his band’s YouTube channel!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 118: Hi, Kyle and Conner! (James and Erin [and Kyle and Conner] Don’t Actually Really Write a Movie, Thank Goodness)

Hey, everyone! It’s week 3 of Auguest and this time we are joined by our favorite dusty bois, Kyle and Conner from The M Word.

We had a plan for this episode. We planned to have them help us write a movie. But the best laid plans of Erin and James quickly get derailed sometimes when we realize that just every single title submission we got sounds like a porn title, and things just really went off the rails from there.

The bad news is that we didn’t actually really do an in-depth write-a-movie this week. The good news is that we didn’t actually do an in-depth write-a-movie this week.

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art. You can find more of Jamie’s music on his band’s YouTube channel!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 117: Hi, Matt and Chris! (“Airborne”)

Hey, everyone! We are back for another week of Auguest, and this time we are joined by Matt and Chris Yule of Finish It!, a completionist’s interactive fiction podcast. If you aren’t listening to their show, you really, really should be.

Bust out your Rollerblade-brand inline skates, because we are talking about 1993’s “Airborne”, starring a very young Seth Green and Jack Black. At the time of the recording, we thought you could only stream it on YouTube, but it turns out you can also stream it on Amazon…or just buy the DVD (with our affiliate link, there), because you will want to own this movie because it is very good.

Thank you to Matt and Chris Yule for letting us blatantly steal their on-air game idea, and to Matt for letting me use his theme music for it, which is one of my favorite jingles from Finish It!

Thank you to Jamie Chahine for our theme song, “Did You Guys Know There Was A Ladder Down Here?” and to Emily Kardamis (@corruptedgem) for our cover art. You can find more of Jamie’s music on his band’s YouTube channel!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 116: Hi, Jen and Micah! (“Now and Then”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the first OFFICIAL episode of Auguest! This week we are joined by Jen and Micah from I Never Saw That to talk about 1995’s Now and Then, which is one of Erin’s favorite movies from her tween years. Hop on your bike, grab a pop, tape your boobs down (wait, what?), and make a pact with us that if you haven’t seen this movie, you will try to get your hands on a copy.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 115: Zombie Pennies (“Pet Sematary”)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to Auguest, the month where we have all guest episodes! Except, uh, this week, when we were SUPPOSED to have a guest episode but we had to publish it early due to unforeseen circumstances, so just pretend that three weeks ago you listened to this episode, and that now you’re listening to “Hi, Bill!” It’s like time travel! But possibly more complicated.

You know what else is complicated? Reanimating dead loved ones using an ancient Native American burial ground. (I am so good at segues!) This week we’re talking about Stephen King’s Pet Sematary (affiliate link), which is beautifully written and utterly horrifying.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 114: James and Erin Write a Movie (“Murder Beach”)

Hey, everyone! It’s “write a movie” time again, and thanks to our amazing friends and fans, we had so many suggestions we only had time to touch on a fraction of them. Highlights include:

Anna Kendrick punches a bus.

Tom Hanks shuts a door.

Denzel Washington is in “Speed”, but it’s not called “Speed”.

A kid has a kaleidoscope.

But ultimately, we decided to go with something fun and light. A good summer romp. A bunch of former child stars, some fishsticks…and murder.

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 113: Res-Erection (“Magic Mike XXL”)

Hey, everyone! This month we are just alllllll over the place. Outtakes, a guest episode, and now this. James got it into his head that we should watch “Magic Mike XXL” because he heard surprisingly good and insightful things about it, and Erin is always game to watch hot men dance.

If you’re coming to us from 2PodsADay, welcome! This July is…actually a really good buffet of what we do here at UFO. (Especially if you also include the episode dropping August 3, which we recorded in July.) So if juvenile dick humor and Erin just talking SO MUCH about how much she loves a certain So You Think You Can Dance alum isn’t your jam, come back next week, when we will be doing something completely different. (Well, mostly different. We cannot promise that dick jokes won’t make a return.)

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 112: Hi, Bill! (Stuff We Like [But Didn’t Expect To])

Hey, everyone! This week we are joined by Bill from The Great Albums podcast, to chat about things we really like that we didn’t initially expect to like. Topics include music, books, music, TV, music, and of course music.

We recorded this one a little bit ago so we don’t mention the 2PodsADay campaign we are participating in this month, but you should go check out their Twitter and see if your new favorite podcast is waiting for you to discover it!

Unabashedly Obsessed Episode 111: Trippin’ Balls (Outtakes Volume 8)

Hey, everyone! This week, Erin is on the West Coast, so we’ve compiled an outtakes episode for you.

This month, we are participating in the 2PodsADay campaign, which aims to introduce listeners to new independent podcasts, two a day for the whole month of July. You can follow the campaign on Twitter (or check out the hashtag #2PodsADay) and maybe find your new second-favorite podcast! (We know we’re your first favorite.)
