Sufi music, Rumi poetry, sacred sound, classical music, and spiritual art are explored in this soulful conversation with Azima Melita Kolin, a classically trained musician, painter, and interpreter of Rumi's mystical wisdom through music and poetry.
Born in Sofia and trained across Europe, Azima's journey bridges Western classical music and Sufi spirituality. Inspired by the 13th-century Persian poet Jalal ad-Din Rumi, she has spent decades creating concerts and readings that weave Rumi's poetry with works by Bach, Beethoven, Scriabin, and Brahms. Through the group Lovers of Rumi and her published translations including Whispers of the Beloved, Hidden Music, and Gardens of the Beloved, Azima shares Rumi's message of love, unity, and remembrance as a living, experiential energy rather than philosophy alone.
