“I think, just as in Jesus’ time, people were so used to doing things the way they have gotten used to it. Sanay na sanay na silang gawin ‘yong mga bagay ayon sa kanilang nakasanayan, ayon sa kanilang kagustuhan. But Jesus, just like the Holy Spirit is dynamic. Ito ‘yong laging sinasabi ng Santo Papa. Iniimbitahan ko po kayong basahin ‘yong kanyang mga homiliya. He would always tell us, ‘the Holy Spirit is dynamic.’ Jesus does not cage himself in traditions, although traditions are very good for us. Don’t get me wrong, when I was a Protestant, I used to tell people na lahat ng mga tradisyon, hindi ‘yan dapat sinusunod. Mali po ‘yan. Because the Church is built on traditions. But what is being presented in the Gospel here is, we have to be humble enough to allow ourselves to be challenged in the way we live our faith.”

“First, we have a God, a king. Unlike other kings who force themselves to their people, our king is someone who invites and really entices people through His love. And then ‘yong part doon na as a response, how are we becoming kings to others as well. When we are correcting others, are we responding with hate? Just like the other kings when they are challenged, they get angry. But because our king is someone who looks after the best of us, when he reprimands us, when he corrects us, it comes from that desire of wanting the best for us.”

“Remember that when we sin, it always has a social dimension. When you sin, you do not sin alone, you take with you your name as a Christian and therefore you wound the Church. You commit an offense not only to God but to the Church where you belong. Halimbawa, sa Filipino culture, kapag may ginawa kang kalokohan, tangay mo ang magulang mo at ang buong pamilya mo. Ganoon din, kapag tayo ay may ginawang kasalanan, kahit hindi nakikita ng iba, kahit hindi ka nabibisto ng ibang tao, malinaw na malinaw na dala-dala mo ang pangalan mo bilang Kristiyano, bilang Katoliko. At dahil doon na i-iskandalo ang ibang tao kasi despite you being a Catholic, being a Christian, you are doing these things which is unbecoming of a Christian.”

“Si Martin Luther, dahil iniisip niya na siya po ay may awtoridad na mag decide kung anong libro ang idadagdag at ibabawas sa Bibliya, gusto rin po niyang tanggalin noon ang aklat ng Hebreo, Santiago, Jude at Revelation, dahil para sa kanya sila’y hindi parte ng main books of the Bible. Pero bilang mga Katoliko-Kristiyano, tayo po ay umaalala sa sinabi ni San Agustin. Ang sabi po niya, ‘Wala po tayong ibang kasiguradohan na ang mga aklat ni Moses at ang apat na libro ng Ebanghelyo at ang ibang mga libro ay mga tunay na salita ng Diyos kung hindi natin pagtitiwalaan ang batayan ng simbahang Katolika. At alam niyo po, noong ako’y Protestante pa, pinakakinagugulat ko, si Martin Luther mismo ang nagsabi sa atin, ‘Tayo ay obligado na sabihin na talaga namang nakuha natin ang salita ng Diyos o ng Bibliya mula sa mga Katoliko, na kung wala ang simbahan, wala tayong alam sa Bibliya.”
