  • UV Podcast 046 – Sven Kacirek
Hey Mr. Sven Kacirek, where are you from and how did you get interested in music? I started to take drum lessons when I was ten.  At the age of 12 I joined the punk band of my elder brother.  The band was called “Abschaum” which means “scum”. Later on I played in different Jazz and Funk bands. When I was 15 I took some piano lessons. I started to learn marimba quite late. I think I was in my late twenties already. Pic by Robin Hinsch What can you tell us about the music in this mix? Where do the recordings or records come from? Gonda has been recorded in 2009 during the “Kenya Sessions” trip. Agnieszka Krzeminska who joined me on this trip shot a video of the session. Siguera has been recorded by Stefan Schneider and myself three years ago during the “Rangala” Recording Sessions. The album „The Kenya Sessions“ came out in 2011/2012. How did that project come about? The choreographer Angela Guerreiro asked me to create the music for her new dance piece in 2008. The rehearsals took place in Addis and Nairobi. In Nairobi Angela introduced me to Johannes Hossfeld, the director of the Goethe-Institut Kenia. […]

  • UV Podcast 044 – Chinaski
Who is Chinaski and where is he from? I’m Stefan and I come from the Baltic Sea. Are you following a specific musical or visual concept with your art? Is that different from label to label? In general, I think all my work is speaking the same language. In real life, I separate the art forms of music and video. For example, in music, for me, only the output counts. There, I don’t have many possibilities to force or construct it so much. It is after I have some output that I decide where it fits. With video art, it’s totally different. I really enjoy having the distance of working for other artists. A good example is my work for “Die Orakel;” there, I have taken a completely different approach. How did you develop your approach and how did that changed? I just count on my taste and try to restrain my creativity so I don’t go overboard. For me, it’s more about curating the instruments; the tone, the instrument or the sound. It’s all there. You just have to choose. This choice is the only thing that reflects your personal preferences. The rest comes by itself. You can’t deny […]

  • UV Podcast 043 – Massimiliano Pagliara
What kind of connection was actually lost? Sometimes you happen to meet great and inspiring people and you feel there could be a special connection with them. Sometimes this is true and it actually happens. You connect with someone. Other times, it is perhaps more some sort of fantasy, an idealisation of a possible and special connection, something like a dream, but in the end the connection doesn’t happen, or if it does, it doesn’t last very long and it will be lost. UV038 / Connection Lost Pt. 2 by Massimiliano Pagliara UV034 / Connection Lost Pt. 1 by Massimiliano Pagliara There are lots of funny stories of Italians and their first experience with club music. Can you remember when you fell in love with those Disco vibes? It was definitely when I moved to Berlin that I first got into Disco. And actually not at the very beginning, but after a few years. In fact, when I arrived to Berlin, I really was into techno and the first records that I bought when I started mixing were mainly techno. Then at some point, I had the great chance to meet Mr. Daniel Wang, who was not only the very […]
