  • UV Podcast 040 1/3 – Finn Johannsen
How come you did 3 mixes for our podcast series? The original idea was to record mixes for my wife to listen to in the car on her way to work. She loves anything UK and bass & breakbeats related, but I have not made a mix for her before with the styles contained here. It was meant to be one longer mix at first, but then I found too many tracks in the shelves I just had to include. It was the same with a 90s Deep House retrospective I did for Modyfier early last year. I’m afraid I cannot portion myself anymore. And I hope it does not become a habit, it really messed up my weekly schedule. Can you tell us something about the concept behind every mix? The concept is really simple. Mix 1 starts with 80 BPM, Mix 3 ends with 150 BPM, halftime though. The pace gradually increases in between, and the mixes are more sequenced then mixed. Predominantly for listening purposes, but feel free to move if you want to move. The music is a diverse mix of Grime, Hip Hop, R&B, Dubstep and affiliated sounds. As mentioned, the reason I chose these […]

  • UV Funk 039: Liquid Sound Club Special with Sandrow M, Conrad Kaden and [micro:form]
While on a constant search for new audiences @sandrow_m and @conrad-kaden went to Bad Schandau, a spa near Dresden and close to the Czech border. Haha. They were invited by @stachy who is hosting the Liquid Sound Club in a swimming bath over there. The concept provides an under- and above water light and sound experience while the bather floats in salt water. It is a pretty unique concept that Conrad, Sandrow and [micro:form] set the music for in their bathrobes. Even if not all of the present golden agers were happy with the Ambient and Chillout sounds from Conrad’s records, Sandrow’s synths and [micro:form]'s effect machines. So without further ado here’s the recording of their set from 5/12/2015.

  • UV Podcast 039 – Oliver Hafenbauer
CLICK: [Interview auf Deutsch] Hello Oliver, could you please introduce yourself to our readers? Hello, my name is Oliver Hafenbauer. From Monday to Friday I work as the booker and musical curator for the club Robert Johnson in Offenbach. On weekends I travel around the world and play Techno and House. I also manage the label „Live At Robert Johnson“ and two years ago I started my own label „Die Orakel“. What is the idea behind your mix? With so much music available it takes me a lot of time till I finally pick the right tracks for a podcast. For this mix I wanted to pick only melodic tracks which I like to listen to at any time of the day. Once I finally pick the right tracks I try to arrange them into a meaningful order. When and where did you start to DJ and how did that evolv over time? I started DJing with mixtapes fifteen years ago. First on the radio and then at parties. I started with Dub and Reggae, then all kinds of styles like Funk, Breakdance and Electronica. In the first years I didn’t really beat match, I just sort of blend one […]

  • UV Podcast 038 – Lowtec
For our 38th podcast episode we’re happy to welcome Lowtec from Workshop Records. [Interview auf Deutsch] Hello Lowtec! Can you please introduce yourself to our readers? My name is Jens Kuhn aka Lowtec. I am a founding member of r.a.n.d. – muzik, an organization by music lovers that’s been defunct for quite a while now. I’m responsible for the labels Workshop and Out To Lunch as well. Besides, I’m also developing LED-lights for a German sports wagon manufacturer. I live together with my family in a house from the 16th century in a province of Thuringia. What is the idea behind your mix and how did you approached that idea? I lined up my current favourite records from the vast landscape of electronic music. There’s no musical bondage, no four-to-the-floor dogma. This is how I approach most of my mixes. I want to present my taste and pick music I’m currently into, and I want to create a tension with the music. I hope that I have succeeded. My club sets can be completely different. It’s when I want people to move and keep dancing. When did you become a DJ and when did you start producing? I started as […]

  • UV Funk 038: Best Of 2015
One more year, lots of new favourites. Once again UV Funk host Philipp asked a lot of Dresden-based and mostly UV-related DJs and artists to comment on their biggest tune of the year. As in recent years the show gathers a fine collection of songs from Afro via House through to Vaporwave and Folk music. This year it seems as some guys are pretty much into adding affects. And two of them picked the same song.

  • UV Podcast 037 – Edward & Arno Schaefer
Could you guys please introduce yourself to our listeners? Hey, this is Arno Schäfer and Edward. We are father and son. No, this is not a band name. We actually are … both DJs and music lovers. What’s the idea behind your mix? We where asked to do a mix beyond the usual Club context with more of an mixtape kind of approach. As we did that a lot in the past we didn’t need a great concept. We just picked some records from back in the days that we still think are worth to listen to and had some fun. When and where did you started DJing and producing (what came first?) and how has it evolved over the time? My father started in the early 90’s organising parties in Frankfurt and playing as a DJ. Soon he took me with him to some of his gigs which was actually a little bit more adventures back than. At least for me as a kid. I observed a lot and at one point I decided to start DJing my self. From that moment we played together but also solo. The mix reflects our musical approach of that time. Mixing different kinds of music in a meaningful way. […]
