  • UV Funk 037: Lockertmatik Special
If you walk through the now brightly polished streets of Dresden you can’t imagine that the city was once called „The Little Detroit Of The East“. After the wall came down it was a place crowded with industrial ruins and dirty occupied buildings. A place even Mad Mike thought of as “not particularly happy”. In other words: an ideal playground for Techno. It must have been in one of those short lived clubs with names like Base or Fabrik when Stephan Schindler aka Kryptic Universe aka Lockertmatik has been infected with the Techno virus for the first time. At least, these times immediately come to mind when you’re listening to his tracks on Wolfskuil, Psycho Thrill, Melted Recordings, Phonocake, our beloved shtum or his Lockertmatik label. Detroit is a key reference for him ever since. Just listen to the mix he contributed live at coloRadio for UV Funk. Also, be sure not to miss the interview with Kryptic Universe and Co-label head Jens Müller aka Q about the Lockertmatik-label at the end of the show.

  • UV Funk 036: Go Plastic Special
Dresden is a city of Dance culture. Not only did the famous German dancer and dance teacher Gret Palucca work here and still leaves traces in the form of the prestigious dance school named after her. The city’s theatre Festspielhaus Hellerau which was conceived by Swiss music teacher Émile Jaques-Dalcroze in 1911 has also a long history in providing a domicile for ambitious contemporary Dance projects. One of such is the Go Plastic compagnie which is led by local dancers Cindy Hammer and Susan Schubert. On the occasion of the premiere of their latest production “Go West, Young Men” on 11 December 11, 2015 Philipp invited them to the studio. Accompanied by the two dancers Christian Novopavlovski and Jared Marks the two dramaturgs talked about the new piece and the dance scene in Dresden in general.

  • UV Podcast 035 – Charlie Smooth
Could you please introduce yourself to our listeners? Hello, my name is Stoyan aka Charlie Smooth. I moved to Berlin thirteen years ago with the intention to become a DJ and that’s what I do now. I also run a series of parties called Get Deep. What is the Get Deep collective and who is involved? Get Deep has five members – Nano Nansen, DJ Xing and me as bookers and DJs and Leon and Philipp as part of the event production. Get Deep is a platform that presents our vision on contemporary dance music, ,allowing us to experiment with our DJ sets in a way that is possible only in that particular setting. Iit gives us the opportunity to book artists who are not playing in Berlin very often, although they should be. We started in 2009 in a naïve excitement, basically just wanting to make a better party than the ones that we were booked at at that time. Eventually, things went beyond expectations and here we are, six years later still raving. How did the Get Deep party/collective changed over the time and where do you wanna go with it? We became more daring in terms of […]

  • UV Podcast 034 – Elisabeth
Could you please introduce yourself to our listeners? Hi, my name is Elisabeth and I’m a DJ from Berlin. What’s the idea behind your mix? I wanted to make this mix for a while, I had some records that had kind of a special atmosphere and merged different styles in a unique way so I wanted to put them together. How did you approached that concept? I spent quite some time thinking about the selection and recorded different versions, in the end I chose this one. When and where did you started djing how has it evolved over the time? That’s a long time ago. I knew I wanted to be a DJ since I was a teenager. I enjoyed compiling mix tapes yet I just had a cassette recorder so I wanted to improve that. In the end it took me years until I tried to play vinyls for the first time. It was at an after hour party, a friend of mine was djing there and I think I asked him if I could try it. It somehow worked out and while we were playing together a friend of ours came and booked us for his party. He […]

  • UV Podcast 033 – Aki Vanderley
Hey Aki, you are living in Sofia, Bulgaria right? Can you tell us a little bit about you and how you came to Djing? I started dj-ing around 2007, I guess… some time before that a friend of mine told me he was selling his turntables cheap, so I bought them spontaneously. During that time I was already sick of the whole house and techno scene in Germany and was looking for some warmer sound that is still electronic and danceable. So I came by a pretty nice compilation of underground italo disco, I- Robots was the name, if I am not mistaken. Naturally the first record I bought on the fleamarket was the Alan Parson’s I-robot . At first I was really fascinated by this naive and cheesy feeling, so I collected mostly euro pop and italo, but pretty soon after my tastes evolved in a more underground direction… so today I am into psychedelic, afro, progressive, jazz-rock, fusion, experimental electronics, wave, space-age pop and many more. From your perspective, how would you describe Sofia’s dance music scene to a our readers? Sofia has no dance music scene, because it had not experienced the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s the […]
