  • UV Funk 032: FCK Undrgrnd Special
Success is dangerous. If your band hits the jackpot with numerous platinum records it’s likely that your future songs lack creativity and courage. But there are exceptions. For the latest UV Funk show host Philipp mixed cool music by popular bands that know how to sell records: B-Sides, Outtakes, lesser known singles or just your favourite track on an otherwise crap album.
The show is in German. If you hate all that teutonic talking but like the music you can write https://soundcloud.com/philipp-demankowski via Soundcloud to get the voiceless version.
    1. The Alan Parsons Project - I Robot

  • UV Podcast 029 – Olivia
Could you please introduce yourself to our listeners? My name is Karolina Oliwia Marut, better known as Olivia. I’m a Kraków-based DJ who is part of the Radar and Chrono Bross collective. I was one of the founders of the (now defunct) club Radar. With Gosia and Lukasz I run the ”Unsound Interferencje” radio show in OFF Radio Krakow . How has the mix been recorded and what’s the idea behind it? I use two turntables and a mixer. The Podcast was recorded at one take. I wanted to record something that is longer than one hour. I’m tired of recording one hour podcasts in which I can’t build as tory. I prefer to play longer sets than one hour or even two hours. So I recorded a two hours podcast starting with some Cosmic tracks and going to Acid, through Electro, House and Techno. There is some new stuff and some classic tunes from the likes of Drexicya or Dynamix II. I was just standing in front of my turntables at my home studio and started to play records which I like and just recorded it. How long have you been deejaying and how has it evolved over the time? I started playing in 2003 with my brother Kinzo Chrome. […]

  • UV Podcast 028 – RJ
Could you please introduce yourself to our listeners? I´m David aka RJ (which is a short form for “the recorded journey”) a Berlin based musician, producer, songwriter and singer. How has the mix been recorded and what’s the idea behind it? As my attention span is not very long I get bored pretty fast by most of the stuff I´m doing. That´s why I love listening to all different kinds of music. Over the last three years I was getting deeper into a lot of music from the 60`s and 70`s. Like bossa, latin jazz, psychrock, experimental electronic music and so on. Or new music, that has been influenced by that. The most important thing, that combines all of the songs I’ve picked for this mix is the overall aesthetic of sound. Especially the fact that there is quite a lot of distortion on almost every song. But every time in a different way. Some songs have those beautifully heavy saturated drums, others are based on a more subtle, warm and close soundaesthetic. But it’s all about the same dirty tapestyle sound, which sounds incredibly pleasing to my ears. This mix was a lot of fun, because I recorded the songs […]

  • UV Funk 031: Ten Years Altes Wettbüro with Micha Schuhmann
If you wanna know how important the one and only Altes Wettbüro has been for Dresden’s club culture you only have to get a glimpse of the list that Micha Schuhman brought for the UV Funk radio show celebrating the tenth anniversary of Altes Wettbüro. It’s a densely-written document you’ll find names of artists from all kinds of genres on it. In the last ten years the full-time booker Micha Schuhmann had a large share of making the club to what it is today. Starting as a bar on the border of Dresden’s nightclub district Neustadt it soon became also a small-sized club with a loyal crowd and a family-like crew. Almost any Uncanny Valley artist has hosted club nights or played here. But AWB, Wetti, Wetterbüro or whatever you wanna call it isn’t only a venue for parties but also for concerts, discussion forums or workshops. Recently the house has also distinguished itself with an excellent and seasonal cuisine. And let’s not forget the Mediterranean, Ping Pong approved garden plus an additional small clubhouse you can also rent for birthday parties or the likes. One of the best places to stay in Dresden’s summer!
There is a lot of speculation about what will happen to the club in the next months. We’ll see where this path will lead. But for now, Micha Schuhmann and UV Funk host Philipp looked back on ten years of excitement and inspiration happening at a place called Altes Wettbüro.

  • UV Funk 030: Tolerave Special with E-Hut & Einfach So
As you might have noticed our home town Dresden isn’t easy to call an open-minded city these days. There are pretty obvious xenophobic tendencies thanks to the painful Pegida marches which have been taking place in Dresden since October 2014. Among the many initiatives that oppose these developments there is the collective Tolerave. It’s a group of creative artists, event managers and friends of electronic dance music that wants to keep the city of Dresden as a colourful and multicultural place by bringing people together. What better way to do that than to throw a big party to which refugees and immigrants are explicitly invited?
In preparation for a big event taking place at Festspielhaus Hellerau in Dresden UV Funk host Philipp Demankowski invited Israeli-born Ehud Roffe aka E-Hut and Schadi aka Einfach So who was raised in Syria to the show. Both are hyperactive jack-of-all-trades in Dresdens music community which would be much poorer without them. At the show E-Hut is hammering savage beats in his Electribe based live set while Einfach So delivers a fine old school mix which spotlights his Hip-Hop roots as well as his DJ skills. Be sure to catch him at his Sabotage residency. But for now, enjoy the show!

  • UV Podcast 027 – Joel Alter
Hey Joel, thanks for your mix. What’s the story behind it? Last autumn I finally shipped my whole vinyl collection to Berlin. Perfectly on time after finishing all the work with my album I found time to dig deep in the crates. I found some old and new favourites that went straight to my dj-bag and I was also happy to find new inspiration in dj-ing after a couple of years mostly exploring sounds in the studio. Is there a record that triggered your interest in electronic music and brought you to deejaying? Yes, there is one record which instantly started it all. Roni Size – Exer-Size E.P. I heard it on the radio first, bought it the next day and decided to start dj-ing. mainly because there was no one playing drum n bass in Gothenburg at that time. Finally you are releasing your debut album. How did it come into being and what are you associating it with? The thought of an album has been in my mind for several years. I wanted to find a space and a way to go deeper and closer to myself as an artist rather than beeing a producer. I finally found […]

  • UV Podcast 026 – DNZ
Hey Dennis, thanks for your mix. What’s the story behind it? After the Konkretbass Mix three years ago it was about time for another one. I wanted to create a mix that just gives a warm feeling to the listeners no matter where they are or what they are doing at this moment. You’ve been around for ages not only as one of the shop owners of Fat Fenders but also as unstoppable DJ. But when did it all start with the love for digging and playing records? And how did it develop until today? In my childhood and for my parents music was a always present. Records have always been around. My father played in a band and my sister became a dancer. My sister bought me my first record called “Vangelis“. She bought it actually for herself but liked Madonna and Kool & The Gang more. So she gave it to me. That was pretty much my first influence in electronic music. Then I started to buy my own records from the pocket money my parents gave me in 1990. At the same time I started to play at one of those school discos and my DJ career […]
