Jesus' Parable of The Prodigal Son is one of the most well known parables for a good reason, we get a picture of forgiveness and reconciliation.  We have all heard different interpretations of this parable and have a base understanding of what The Prodigal Son means to us, but here is the important question... What did it mean to the people Jesus was speaking to?  In this episode of "The Parables" we look at different ways that Jesus' original audience would have understood this memorable parable, and reflect on how that understanding impacts us today.

In this series we will be breaking down the Parables of Jesus to understand how his original audience would've understood them.  The beauty of the Parables is they carry meaning and relevance throughout every generation that reads them.  Although the Parables apply to every reader including us, and their purpose never changes, we should not overlook how they would've been interpreted by Jesus' original audience.  For this episode we are covering the Parable of The Lost Sheep and The Lost Coin, and there are a few questions we will cover... Despite all that God does for his people, one reoccurring problem we see, is the failure to trust that God is good at being God.   This not only applies to the ancient Israelites but to all of us today. 1 Samuel 8 covers a constant problem of Israel's, and that is, trusting that God is good.

Many of us ask "How can I hear God?" But, how can we expect to hear God if we don't know what God sounds like?  In 1 Samuel 3 we come across an interesting story where God is calling out to Samuel, but Samuel has no idea who is calling his name!  Throughout this passage we find interesting details that can get missed in certain translations of the Bible.  We discuss the importance of knowing the original Hebrew and Greek words that the biblical authors use, as well as Understanding how to use different Translations in the Bible.

If you haven't noticed there has been a lot of disagreement, fighting, and hate in our society within the last decade.  Families have been torn apart and friendships have been lost due to differences in beliefs.  Jesus commissioned us to "Love your neighbor as yourself." If this command is greater than all others, why do we struggle to love those that we disagree with?
