Remember that time Jesus called a woman a dog?  Throughout the Bible, some things can confuse you and sometimes test your faith.  I can understand how reading about Jesus calling a woman a dog can be problematic but is our understanding of this interaction correct?  It sounds crazy but Jesus has very good reasons for using this kind of language.  Reasons that will teach us to live better and rely on our faith.

Do we really have value?  In the eyes of God of course! But what about for other people?  Do  we have inherent value or are we worthless?  The parable of The Pearl of Great Value actually gives us insight to God's view on our worth.  Although we sin and fall short we are still created in Gods Image.  This truth gives us a duty we may not be aware of.  Because we hold value we have the obligation to treat others with love even at our own expense.  With this parable Jesus challenges our comfort and calls us to a higher standard.

Jude is one of those books that can easily be overlooked. It's short, rather unknown, and just so happens to be right before Revelations.  To my surprise this Scripture Study on the book of Jude has been the most insightful study I have done in a very long time.  Although this book is short it does NOT lack substance.  We uncover many different questions from Jude... Jesus was not a novice to the age old art of roasting.  We all can enjoy a good comical roasting from time to time, especially if its toward a friend or family member, but what happens when the person getting roasted is you?  The Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector starts with Jesus calling out those who are self-righteous, and yes... that is you and I.  What is odd about this Parable is we are not only self-righteous like the Pharisee, but we are also a messed up sinner like the Tax Collector.  How can we reconcile this?  More importantly how can we change?

The Good Samaritan is good right?  Here is a shocker... In the eyes of Jesus' original audience Samaritans were never good, and evil at best.  Have we accidentally turned this originally disquieting parable into a feel good story?  For the listeners of Jesus this parable would have challenged their very idea of "Love your neighbor as yourself" while also opening their eyes to the fact that no one is excluded from receiving compassion and love.
