Remember that time when God hardened Pharaoh's heart?  Have you ever wondered what it meant for God to harden someone's heart?  On the surface, it seems like we would just be pawns in God's little game,  but I'm not convinced that is the case and I think the scripture would agree.  How does heart hardening work, and why does it happen?  Paul tells the Roman church that God has the right to harden or show mercy to whomever he wants.  The question we are tackling is this... Are We God's Pawns?

If you have been reading the bible for some time you are bound to face criticism of the Bible's reliability.  There have been many skeptics, non-believers, and textual critics that try to cast doubt on the Gospel's reliability.   As believers, we shouldn't ignore these problems, and we shouldn't run from them either.  There are countless resources including historians, scholars, and textual critics that attest to the truthfulness/reliability of the Gospels.  One interesting finding in the Gospels is the appearance of Undesigned Coincidences.   The Gospels claim to be witness testimony and if true we would expect to find different but accurate claims made by each Gospel author.  Keeping this in mind, we explore a few Undesigned Coincidences that should help us answer the question... The Gospel of Christ teaches that we will be hated, persecuted, and face suffering for our allegiance to Jesus Christ.  How then do we get the Prosperity Gospel?  Why are so many Christians told that if they have enough faith they can be rich and wealthy while there are believers in other countries who struggle for food?  Paul tells the Roman church that in order for them to be glorified with Christ they must also suffer with him. This leads me to ask... Are you Prepared to Suffer for Christ?

One of the most easily missed archetypes in the Torah is the similarities between the Patriarchs and their descendants.  The narratives of Abraham for example foreshadow the actions of the Israelites in Egypt.  Oddly enough Adam's descendants carry out his actions to this day (sin).  Paul is reminding the Roman church about this human truth in his effort to guide them towards trust in Jesus and not the Law.  Without Jesus can there be life? Can we live to indulge our flesh and still be saved?  These questions are in need of answers, especially for the Roman Church.

Are we married to Jesus?  If you're like me it can be confusing to read about Jesus being the groom and we are his bride.  Where does this language of covenant marriage come from, and why is it used to describe our covenant with God?  For Paul and the Jewish believers in Rome, this issue arises.  The Jewish believers still feared that they were being adulterous if they "abandoned" the law in order to follow Jesus.  So how does Paul ease their fears?
