It's our golden anniversary here at the Uncommonwealth Studios!!! And to commemorate our incredible accomplishment of tolerating one another, for an hour a week, every week, for an ENTIRE year, we are talking anniversaries, of all shapes and sizes!
Jimmy goes interstellar right out of the gate, hitting us with some celestial math problems, that not even Matthew McConaughey could alright alright alright his way out of. Did you know that on Neptune, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip have been married for 629,000 earth years!? That's too many episodes of The Crown for even Katherine to watch!
Adam takes the reins wowing the Uncommonwealth faithful with some truly fascinating podcast stats, that we eventually realize was just an elaborate plan to pat ourselves on the back for keeping this going for an entire year. Did you know that we're more successful than the song Despacito, or better at podcasting than Lindsay Lohan is at staying out of rehab (cheap shot!)? Remember the Mooch?! We do!
Katherine opens up her segment with a classic Rawlinson razzle dazzle, proceeding to poo poo the entire idea of anniversaries and years, and calendars, and clocks, the very topic we'd all previously agreed to focus on today, but artfully pivots to bring us a passionately, if poorly pronounced, Sub Prime Ministers about a rocking Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern of New Zealand.
After loudly interrupting and rushing through his confusing thoughts on the existence of a higher power, Piers drops some muy piquantè anniversary facts about Steve Irwin the sting ray, curiously named after Steve Irwin the global legend, and admits to spending all his rent money on Crocodile Hunter trading cards. With seconds left to finish his segment, he races through a fascinating tale of Anglo American anniverserial relations, to bring our 52nd episode to a longwinded and thrilling conclusion.
Thank you so much to all of you, that have joined us this year. We hope you've had half as much fun listening to the Pod as we have had making it and we look forward to bringing you more laughs and useful nonsense facts, in the years ahead.

It's Prank Day on the pod!!!! In an attempt to end winter early, The Uncommonwealth Podcast has moved April Fools' day to…TODAY.
Piers is unprepared for prank-day but that doesn't stop him from quickly googling three hilarious incidents, including when the police somehow mistook people in line for the COVID vaccine for a big raucous party that we weren't invited to (otherwise known as a "rave"). This leads to the obvious and important question: "How does one rave?" Advice welcome!
Jimmy details several famous Australian pranks by comedian troupe, The Chasers, where one prank went so well it almost caused a national security crisis. The team ask a high-minded question: what do you do when you succeed and weren't expecting to succeed? Let's journal about it.
Adam jumps in with a jam-packed Two Truths and a Lie segment. (If you listen closely, you can hear Katherine audibly shudder.) Despite the team's frustration with Adam's prank-y nature, we learn a lot, especially about baseball player Sidd Finch who could throw a fastball at 168 miles per hour. Too fast to be true?
Finally, Katherine closes out this mind-boggling episode with the 1978 prank of The Sidney Iceberg, executed by the founder of Australian Geographic, Dick Smith.
No Uncommonwealth episode is complete without a penis-pun. Luckily, Dick Smith comes to the rescue with his promise of "dicksicles." You can't make this stuff up, unless you make it up. (We swear we didn't make that one up!)

The UCW Paddle celebrates their 50th episode by forgetting to acknowledge it's the 50th episode but make up for it by throwing around all the platypuses (platypi?), movie quotes, BDSM scandals, and Australian mining magnates you can handle! Adam begins by seamlessly transitioning an obscure reference into a Two Truths and a Lie segment that almost makes Katherine quit the podcast. Undeterred by another near-disastrous segment-duplication incident, Piers soldiers on with an unlikely story about a couple from Quebec that has the team questioning everything from identity-politics to why dog-owners are given so much leeway. Then, Katherine jumps in with facts about the richest person in Australia – Gina Rinehart – who is, excitingly, a woman, but also accused of workers' rights abuses, opening up the floor for comparisons between Gina and Gimli from Lord of the Rings. You be the judge! Finally, Jimmy closes out this incomparable 50th episode with scintillating details on one of nature's most unorthodox animals, the platypus. Did someone say "pussy?" Of course, we did.

The UCW Kindle crushes it with a themed episode on "coups." Are we talking two door convertible cars, chicken houses or insurrections? Katherine starts us off with a coup from Chile, predictably placing the blame squarely on the shoulders of President Nixon. Jimmy, confused by a Baby Back Ribs reference, gets it together to deliver a fantastic loose coup, the Great Siege of Gibraltar. There were Spanish ships and British ships and people drowning. It's a great time! Then Piers takes us back to 1808 for yet another coup but this time it's down under - the Great Rum Rebellion of 1808. Who knew there could be so much coup in one coupisode! Adam brings it home with a discussion of the Quebec separatist movement in Canada including a kidnapping and maybe an accidental assassination! Wowza, folks, these are coups so good they're picture-worthy.

The UCW Colony is on a roll, folks! Climb in, strap in, and grab your barf bag. This week Jimmy comes out swinging with an epic discussion of famous kleptomaniac King Farouk of Egypt. Not to be outdone, Piers brings the heat as he leads a discussion of newly elected Namibian politician Adolf Hitler (yes, that is his name). Katherine brings back fan favorite segment Katherine's Stupid Questions, this time about Mac and Cheese. Finally, Adam leads by example, I mean with examples, with a new, sure-fire hit segment called either "Who was second?" or "Who was runner-up?" Then Katherine gets territorial when Adam's segment includes a reference to a Canadian Prime Minister. You could cut the tension with a scythe.

The UCW Cauldron really gets stirred up this week folks! Jimmy starts it off with a wedding announcement and then seamlessly segues into a segment on the Brooklyn Bridge. Adam, still smarting from a wedding invite snub, reminds listeners not to lick metal poles when it is cold out. Katherine keeps the marriage theme going with an impeccably researched segment on global divorce rates. Finally, Pierre in French brings it home with the lightning round of lightening rounds, if you know what I mean. I don't. But who cares! This pod gets better each week. Don't miss it.

The UCW Crash elevates their game in this epic episode that includes an extended behind the scenes look at how the UCW team laughs when one of them has technical issues. This ep is packed to the gills with laughs and awkward pauses. Piers deals with his audio problems then delivers a stellar intro before handing the baton to Adam, who does a new segment: "I want to be famous, too. The Children of Celebrities." Jimmy dives deep into Sea Horses before stumbling when he momentarily forgets they live in water. Katherine and Piers then deliver two back-to-back killer segments about two incredible Indian women, Indira Gandhi, and Rani Lakshmi Bai, who played an important role in the fight for Indian independence. In Piers' own words she was "very Mulany."

The UCW Rafter completes the second part of the first ever Uncommonwealth Two Part Episode! Holy smokes, folks. Piers, that saucy Brit, talks about the Solomon Islands, dropping facts rapid fire, before melting down, then picking himself right back up and going back to facts! Jimmy, never shy about kicking a man while he's down, take one of Piers' former segments and tries to make it better by academically articulates how Napoleon "rocks up" to the battlefield. Does Jimmy succeed? Listen and find out! Whoa baby!

The UCW Bask gets down and dirty in an episode that had to be split in two! By popular demand, Katherine brings back fan-favorite (note, fan is meant in the singular) Sub Prime Minister! In this installment she tries to talk about famed Canadian Prime Minister and Justin's pa, Pierre Elliot Trudeau, but has trouble staying on track. Then Adam integrates Two Truths and a Lie into a segment on prohibition and all heck breaks loose! There's whiskey everywhere! Listen and enjoy. Part Two comes next Wed, folks. Uncommonwealthers Unite! Happy Holidays and all that.

The UCW Pace cannot be denied! This week Katherine confidently articulates why Canadians are the best at quarantining. Adam is the victim of Katherine's wraith as she is once again foiled during a Two Truths and a Lie segment. Piers describes a vicious rumor that England's famous Wembley Stadium was being used to make the world's largest lasagna. And Katherine closes the loop with the return of Katherine's Dumb Questions! Jimmy's segment on porn stars named Bilbo, while riveting, was nixed by standards and practices. Enjoy Uncommonwealthers and Happy Holidays!
