On February 9, 2004, 21 year old Maura Murray packed a bag with a couple days worth of clothes and left her dorm room at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She hadn’t told anyone she planned on leaving or where she was going. Later that night, her car was found two hours north. Her car had struck a tree, but Maura was nowhere to be found. Her wallet, cellphone, and backpack were gone as well. As Maura’s activities in the days and hours before the accident come out, it only raises more questions about where she was going and where she might be.

Welcome to season two of Uncorked Crime! We decided to start off our second season with a two-part episode – one part true crime, one part ghost story. First, we’ll tell you the story of Dorothy Jane Scott. From her creepy stalker, to her strange disappearance and murder. Then, we’ll tell you all about the Dorr E. Felt Mansion, located in Holland, Michigan. Within years of designing and building their dream home, Dorr and Agnes Felt passed away, and have spent their time in the afterlife roaming the halls and rooms of the Felt Mansion. Joel David Rifkin was adopted in 1959 at just three weeks old to Bernard and Jeanne Rifkin in New City, New York. By his late teen years, Joel started looking for prostitutes and developed a fascination of bondage and other aggressive sexual acts. After his father passed away in 1987, Joel began picking up prostitutes and would eventually take to murdering them and dismembering the bodies. Four years and 17 murders later, Joel was pulled over with the decaying body of Tiffany Bresciani in the bed of his truck. He was arrested, confessed to all the murders he had committed, and sentenced to 203 years - life in prison. Between the years of 1967 and 1969, eight young females would go missing and later found murdered throughout the Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti areas of Michigan. The murders were brutal, and the first seven left no leads for police. Hair clippings found on the final victim of the Michigan Murders, Karen Beineman, would lead police to 22-year-old John Collins. John denied knowing Karen, or any of the previous victims, but a jury would find him guilty of first degree murder and sentence him to life in prison. Sinedu Tadesse was born in Ethiopia and after her father did some time in prison, she was shunned by family and friends. She focused on her schooling and after graduating high school, she decided to study abroad and was accepted by Harvard. While there, she was very socially distant and made no friends, other than her roommate, Trang Ho. On May 28, Trang would be stabbed to death by Sinedu. What drove Sinedu to commit this horrible crime, and could it have been prevented?

Jane Toppan was born in 1854 and by the time she was 8 years old, after a few years in an orphanage, she would be placed in a foster home where she would spend the next 11 years of her life. At the age of 31, she would begin her nursing career. This is where she would begin experimenting with drugs on her patients. For 16 years she would get away with poisoning and murdering eldlerly patients, friends, and family, before finally being caught. What led Jane to poison these helpless, innocent people and become one of America’s first female serial killers?

Ten guests arrive at Mitchell’s Inn, a quaint and secluded lodge with no cell phone service or WiFi, in the midst of a raging winter storm. By the next morning, the inn would be without power or no one would be able to leave due to ice. One of the guests would also be found dead, in what first appeared to be an accident. Over the next 24 hours however, four more of them would be found dead. Was there someone else hiding in the lodge, taking out guests one by one? Or was one of the guests themselves a murderer? Sylvia Likens was born in 1949 to carnival workers, Lester and Betty. Sylvia and her sister Jenny often stayed with family or other caretakers as their parents traveled for work, and were placed under the care of Gertrude Baniszewski in 1965. Over the next few months Sylvia would experience horrifc and unthinkable torture, not only at the hands of Gertrude, but her children and their friends as well. This abuse would unfortunately lead to the death of Sylvia. Would these terrible people get the punishment they deserved for tormenting, and ultimately murdering, Syliva Likens?

After a few weeks of a strange illness, Stacey’s first husband, Michael, passed away and the cause was determined to be a heart attack. Just a few years later, her second husband, David, would pass away from an apparent suicide. Not long after, her daughter, Ashley, would also attempt to commit suicide, but luckily she survived. It would eventually come out that all three of these tragedies had one thing in common - anit-freeze poisoning. Was Stacey behind the murders of her two husbands, and the attempted murder of her own daughter?

Leonarda Cianciulli had a rough childhood, claims her mother put a curse on her for marrying against her wishes, and even spent some time in prison. By the time Leonarda’s life started to settle down, her son was at risk of being sent to war. She was convinced the only way she could ensure her son’s safety was by sacrificing three other humans. Leonarda would take the lives of three innocent women, mutilate the bodies, and even eat parts of them afterwards. She would be caught soon after the murders, and sentenced to 30 years in prison and 3 years in a criminal asylum.
