Imagine that you are a piece of sea glass, tumbling about at the water’s edge. All around you, water sloshes in every direction. It swirls around the large rocks that mark the shoreline then quickly recedes with the tide. For just a moment you hear the cool, brisk wind before the next wave rushes in. Momentarily lifted by the surge, you are weightless, floating. The churning water tosses everything in its path, mixing pebbles and seaweed and sand. You come to rest among a small heap of shells, their edges scraping and crunching as they settle. Some might find this turbulence unpleasant, but you don’t mind. It’s necessary for your jagged edges to be smoothed and your coarse surface to become polished. One day, someone will pluck you from among the shells, marveling at your satin finish, and your vibrant color. You will finally be recognized for the treasure that you are.
