Today we continue in our Relationship Series with an episode on the 5 reasons you might be struggling to cultivate the next-level relationships in your life that you say you want to have. 

The first reason is that you aren’t putting yourself in the rooms where these women are. If you’re the smartest person in every room you’re in, you’re in the wrong rooms. 

The second reason is that you aren’t actually being the friend you want to have. If you make a list of the qualities you want in a friend – you have to make sure you actually have those qualities too. 

The third reason is that you’re allowing people who shouldn't be in your inner circle take up energetic space inside that circle. 

The fourth reason is that you aren’t allowing balance across your relationships. You're investing too much into one type of relationship and not investing enough into the others. 

And the fifth and final reason is that you’re only open to letting people in who are just like you. When what you need to do is look for people who complement you.

Today we continue our Relationship Series talking about our "inner circle" relationships. There are three distinct types of relationships that I believe should have a place in our inner circle: mentors, mentees, and those to accompany us on our journeys.

I believe it's important that we all need to seek out support, provide support, and have partners to walk alongside us. We need to cultivate relationships with people who will challenge us, help us grow, hold us accountable, and support us in the things that are important to us.

Not everyone deserves a spot in our inner circle. We need to very intentional about who we allow into this very intimate place in our lives, because even when we don't realize it, our inner circle has a tremendous amount of influence over us. Our inner circle can be the difference between living out our dreams and settling for less than we desire.

Today we continue our Relationship Series talking about attachment styles. An attachment style is more or less how you show up in your relationships, whether those are parent-child relationships, your friendships, your dating relationships, your marriage, or your partnerships. It’s how you behave in relationships. I dig into some the motives behind those behaviors, the inherent desires that are fueling those behaviors, and the fears that might be contributing to how you show up in relationships.  

I also discuss what personality traits as well as what environmental circumstances might have contributed to the development of your attachment style.

There are four attachments styles, characterized by the level of avoidance (high or low) and the level of anxiety (high or low) that you demonstrate in your relationships.

A secure attachment style is categorized by low anxiety and low avoidance.

An anxious attachment style is characterized by high anxiety and low avoidance.

An avoidant attachment style is characterized by low anxiety and high avoidance.

And an anxious-avoidant (or fearful-avoidant) attachment style is characterized by high anxiety and high avoidance.

I also talk a little bit about what steps you can take to heal from an unhealthy attachment style in your relationships and how you can start to move toward having more healthy secure attachments in your personal relationships.

Over the next couple of weeks, I am releasing a series of episodes that I’ve titled the {Relationship Series}. 

Today, in the first episode of this series, I talk about how every relationship – every friendship – serves a specific purpose in our lives. Even if the relationship doesn’t turn out to be a lifetime relationship. Even when a relationship comes to an end – the end may hurt and you may be quick to believe that the relationship was a waste of your time because it ultimately came to an end – but during the course of the relationship, that person served a purpose in your life. They met some need you had. And during the time that they were in your life, their presence provided you with something of value. Something you needed. 

And that’s what the relationship was meant to do. You don’t have to regret the experiences because the relationship comes to an end. You can be grateful for what you provided to each other and for who you became as you grew through it.

In today’s episode, I talk to Eryka Morehead, the CEO of Collaborative Planning Group. As the founder and CEO of Collaborative Planning Group, she leads a team of independent insurance brokers providing life, disability, and long-term care insurance, as well as other financial products to their professional clients.  

Eryka shares with us her journey as an entrepreneur, which began in childhood as the oldest of four siblings growing up on a Christmas tree farm, assigning responsibilities to her younger siblings within the family business. 

Eryka’s path to entrepreneurship was not a linear one. As a wife and mom of four, Eryka left a very successful career when she recognized how her long hours and constant traveling for work was having an impact on what she was teaching her children and the amount of time she was able to spend with them at home. So she left her lucrative W-2 job in search of something that could provide her with more balance and ultimately, more freedom.  

She shares how that journey led her to launching and building Collaborative Planning Group to the successful company it is today. She also talks about the impact that this journey had on her family, her children, and her marriage, and how they were able to navigate and strengthen those relationships through the transitions and the challenges that accompanied the transitions.

Today's episode is short and sweet. I recently attended an intention setting workshop, and today, I'm sharing my takeaways on the differences between setting intentions and setting goals. I talk about how we can use intentions to help us recognize whether or not we are truly aligned with our goals, and how we can use intentions to help us reach those goals that are in alignment more quickly.

While goals are typically externally focused in some respect, intentions are more internally focused. Setting intentions connects us with ourselves and allows us to embody the feelings that we associate with those goals before we even reach the goals. 

Setting intentions is going to help you with a couple of things. 

Number one, it’s going to help you actually reach your goals a little bit faster. Because you’re embodying the person you are actively working to become as you work on those goals. 

And number two, it’s going to remind you that it’s never about the end destination. It’s about the person you become in pursuit of that destination. Because that’s the whole entire point. The destination is never as important as the person you become on the journey.

Today I talk to Andye Lamm, a fitness instructor and gym owner, and we dive into her personal journey of unexpected entrepreneurship. Andye's journey began when she found herself on an intense health and fitness journey. Through this journey, she found a new, upleveled version of herself, and was able to heal not only physically, but mentally and emotionally, as well. 

Andy shares how the transformation she went through brought new life to not only her, but to her family, as well. It changed the way she showed up as a wife and as a mom, and as she found the power and the transformation that this journey provided for her, she knew she was called to share it with others and to help lead others on their own journeys of changing their lives through health and fitness.

We talk about the importance of community and of finding support through other people - both through coaching/mentorship, and through having others to walk side-by-side with you on the same journey. And we talk about the value of partnership in business, and how oftentimes the most ideal business partner is someone who is radically different than you, as opposed to someone who is very similar.

Today I talk pretty candidly about how I've gotten sucked into the comparison trap in various ways over the past several weeks and months. And maybe comparison is something you struggle with, as well. Whether it's in trying something new for the first time and worrying that you won't be as good as anyone else, or whether it's in scrolling social media and feeling inadequate in the ways you're showing up in comparison to other people, comparison can really start to make us question our own worthiness. 

So in today's episode I break down how to recognize this comparison trap when it shows up, how to dig a little deeper and find the root of the comparison, and how to address the comparison at a root level. I talk about fear and vulnerability as some of the driving forces behind my own comparison trap, and I talk about how we can start to cultivate a sense of worthiness within ourselves as opposed to how we compare to others.

I also talk about how comparison can block us from our own authenticity and how to embrace our own energetic frequency so we can show up authentically and cultivate true authentic relationships.

We also talk about Human Design Profiles and what some of those numbers mean, as well as some of the most common Authorities within Human Design – the ways we are designed to listen to our bodies and/or our environments before making important decisions. In today's episode, I share the lessons I learned through a complex and emotional journey of navigating whether or not to create something I was asked to create.

Recently a friend approached me and asked me to write the foreword for her book. Immediately, I said yes. But as I thought more about it later, I realized I had responded fully in my ego, and didn't consider whether this opportunity was really in alignment for either one of us. So I swallowed my pride and reached back out to her. I admitted that I had responded too quickly and that I actually needed a little more time to think about it.

Which opened up a beautiful conversation where we put all the options and well as all of our concerns and fears on the table. And we talked through them all. 

And in the end, when I stepped outside of my ego and stepped into my inner knowing, I ultimately ended up agreeing (again) to write the foreword for her book. Because I realized it really WAS in alignment. But I needed to be able to put my ego aside in order to create it in the way I was supposed to create it. And what ended up flowing out of me in the creation process was so much more beautiful and so much more powerful than anything I ever could have created had I attempted that process from a place of ego.
