Is it ok for a Christian to drink? What does the Bible say about going to a casino? These are two of many questions that are asked by both Christians and non Christians. While we all have strong opinions and valid reasons for those opinions.  However,  we all know the greatest enemy of opinion is fact.  Before I dig myself into a deeper hole, give this a listen and by the end you’ll  either grab a shovel, or….a bag of dirt.

Mark 9:24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, “Lord, I believe; please help my unbelief!”

Faith and unbelief can coexist as we see from this scripture. However, we cannot stay in this place and expect to grow in the Lord and see Him at work in our lives. We can take a lesson from this dad who was desperate to see his son healed, but lacked the belief Jesus could do it but instead of hiding the problem, the dad admitted it.

There is a scene in Russell Crowe’s Robin Hood where he is sitting at the bedside of an elderly man who said, “ I have much to tell you about history…about your history.”  For the first time Robin learned of his true heritage which in turn shaped his future and ultimately the future of England.

For some reason, I have always related this particular scene to God and His call for every believer to know the Word, not just the history, but how it applies to the present and the future.  

We must not neglect spending time in God’s Word not just to read it, but to know Him and what that means for our past, present, and future.

Spiritual warfare is real, so real that people often dismiss it as a seasonal troubles, depression, bad days, or the nauseous “it is what it is”.  Even though God does  not cause bad things, He often gets the blame more so than we admit. We can align with the demonic or align with Christ. It really is a choice we have to make and make more than once.

Catch 22 seems like it has declared open season on many of us. If just that much speaks to you, then relax.  Not only do we have a Savior who understands, we have the Lord who is victorious. But wait there’s more! He is also the soon coming King of Kings and Lord of Lords that every knee shall bow to…

The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace, Exodus 14:14.

Luke 10:38-42 is the well known account of Martha and Mary. Martha was more task oriented while Mary chose to sit at Jesus’ feet and learn from Him. Martha was rebuked, Mary was rewarded.

Many times we can relate to Martha more so than Mary. We are busy doing the “right”things while neglecting the “main” thing. When we get overwhelmed, it might be a good time to restructure.

Malachi 3:3 "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the Lord will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness."

He will sit as refiner and purifier…sounds like a passive role until you research what a refiner actually does, how detailed, hands on and precise they have to be.  And how do they know when the silver is refined? When they see their reflection in it.

Being an Christian isn’t about doing the “right” things, being a “good ole boy or good ole gal.” It’s about becoming less about ourselves and more about Him.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Often times we remember the past, some memories are good some aren’t but regardless we have a tendency to hang on to the past rather than let go. Writing new chapters involves closing old ones, and that process is scary because of the unknown but rest assured God knows and thats what we need to trust.

Exodus 20:12 tells us to honor our father and mother which is all well and good if they are godly, but does God expect us to do so if they are not godly?  Does this automatically let us off the hook?
