At the height of the Roman Empire, more than 100,000 people live under the looming presence of Mount Vesuvius on the Bay of Naples, and the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum are home to many of them. Their towering backdrop hadn’t erupted for hundreds of years, but she would soon unleash her fiery fury. Many of the people of these towns quickly met violent and disturbing ends, and to this day, their cities - and their stories - are still being unearthed.
