Unshaken: Standing Firm In Who God Says I Am

Listen Later

The very first thing the enemy speaks in scripture is, "Hath God said?" (Genesis 3:1).
Phrasing is critical in this verse. Satan positioned his words in such a way that made Eve question the voice of God in her life and to devise distrust with God's motives. He wanted her to question God's word and authority.
When we have a altered concept of God's character, then we will most certainly have a skewed understanding of our own identity.
We are created in the image of God, giving us His divine nature through distinction; therefore, our identity is in Him. The enemy knows the power each one of us has when we are grounded in the word of the Lord. As women, we are created to guard the glory of God and to share His glory with the world.
It is not a surprise that the enemy's first step of attack was on the woman. He was aware of God's divine order within creation and he wanted to destroy that institution from the very beginning. He wanted to attack Eve's identity and her trust in God word. He still does this today.
If the devil can get you to believe a lie, then he will have power over you. He will lie to you because he wants to separate you from the presence of God and he desires to destroy the calling God has placed on your life.
He will attack your identity because it matters who you believe you are.
The enemy wants you to doubt your purpose in the Kingdom of God. However, when you realize the power and authority you have, not in yourself, but in the power of almighty God, then you have become a force to be reckoned with. God wants you to have confidence in Him.
Sometimes, You Don't Have To Say Anything
In Matthew 27:12-14, the governor challenged the identity of Jesus.
And when he (Jesus) was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing. Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee? (Basically, don't You know what they are saying about You?) And he answered him not a word; insomuch that the governor marveled greatly.
There will be times when someone will rise against you and speak against your character or challenge your calling in God. Remember - Your reputation and identity is in God's control. You don't always have to take matters into your own hands and defend yourself, but it's sometimes best to hold your tongue.
I heard a minister suggest to imagine yourself as a three-year old defenseless child before the throne of God and say, "God, You are my defense. Please take care of this situation and be my protector."
There is power in the Word of God. When the enemy begins to attack your identity just remember, you are who the word of God says you are - you are chosen, loved, set-apart, forgiven, delivered, blessed, designed for a purpose, and created in God's image.
