It's time for the last chapter of the book, and the last live-read for maybe a while. Maybe. Who knows?
RoShawn is relieved that Harry has decided to hand Maggie over to someone more capable of keeping her out of harm's way, although she isn't really guaranteed anything as long as Harry is her father. And RoShawn is really wondering who the hell went after Dresden in the end, because there are so many beings out there who want him dead that she's having trouble choosing. She makes some guesses, but doesn't seem satisfied with any of them.
Thanks so much again to everyone for listening, and I will see you all again in about a month, with the start of Ghost Story. According to my research, we've got the short stories "Love Hurts", "Bigfoot On Campus", "Even Hand", and "Aftermath" before we start the next book.
Don't be mad at me, be mad at Butcher, alright?

I want to pay special attention to the art for this episode because I stumbled across it in a Facebook group and got special permission from the artist to share it despite it beings a commissioned piece. It's by Adam Mathison-Sward, and you can take a look at his work and commission something for your very own at https://www.swarddraws.com (Beware tho, there are spoilers for later Dresden books amongst the drawings!) I just thought it was a wonderful compilation of all of our faves from this battle, and it's especially fun to see Dresden in his conquistador armor.
Thank you all so much for listening, and I really hope that you enjoy this episode. It took a lot more work than it sounds like, but it was a labor of love and I think it paid off in the end.
    See you next week.

Greetings, listeners! I cannot seem to find a source for the image I used for this episode, so if anyone wants to share one, please feel free. It's an illustration of the god Kukulcan, which is how Alamaya refers to the Red King at one point, and since I couldn't find a great illustration of him or Alamaya I decided to go with this since it looks awesome.
In these chapters, Harry finally gets to meet his daughter Maggie for the first time. He doesn't get a lot of time with her, and he doesn't tell her who he is, but it's enough to motivate Harry to agree to the fight with Duchess Ariana on behalf of the Red King. Harry gets another puzzling moment where she laughs at him thinking this is about him, and tells him to die confused.
But if it's NOT about him, then what's it about?
Thanks so much for listening, and we will see you again soon with a new episode! Almost to the end of the book!

FYI! I'm doing a live cast with a spoiled reader and UNspoiled! cohost, Krista, about Peace Talks this coming Saturday! Click here to register for the event! https://www.crowdcast.io/e/spoiled-peace-talks
We're getting into the thick of it now, folks. We arrive at Chichen Itza and we get to hear Moues talk. EEeeeeeeEEEeeeeee
Only a couple episodes left until the end of this book, and I welcome suggestions on how to handle some key moments coming up that I would love to live-read but can't justify doing both.
Thank you all so much for listening, and I hope you enjoy the show.

  • Changes- Chapters 36, 37, 38
Hey everyone! Sorry this was later than usual! Normally I try to get it edited by Monday but RoShawn had some trouble getting the file sent to me (power outage that lasted a whole day) so I was only able to edit it tonight.
If anyone knows the artist for this piece, please let me know. I was able to find it posted to several blogs, but none cited a source. It was simply too good not to use!
This episode, RoShawn and I talk about the Erlking, whom she is a big fan of, as it turns out. She's really hoping that we get to see him again, although she's worried about the fact that he's clearly intent on making Harry into the quarry of his next hunt. Yikes.
Then, Lea catches up with him and Susan, and bestows upon them some gifts, although Harry is far from sanguine about things since their time in Faerie turned out to take hours longer in the mortal world than they thought. Oops.
Thanks so much for listening, and we will see you next week with a new episode!

ART CREDIT! This awesome illustration of Susan literally ripping the tongue out of a Red Court vampire's mouth is by Vincent Chong, and more illustrations (rife with spoilers, so beware) can be found here! https://vincentchongart.myportfolio.com/bw-art-the-dresden-files

In these chapters, Harry winds up in the police station again, in an attempt to get Susan out of custody because they have nothing substantial to hold her on. However, while he's there the Red Court decides that it's time to pull out all the stops and just fucking murder everyone in their way, and they bring the Ich with them.

Susan and Harry manage to lure the main body of the assault through a Way into the NeverNever, but in their attempt to get out of a dangerous situation where they're outnumbered by inhuman beings....they wind up in a dangerous situation where they're outnumbered by inhuman beings. Oops.

Thanks so much for listening, and we will see you again soon with a new episode!

This amazing illustration of Mab is available for purchase on artist Brandi York's shop, and I wantsssss it, precioussssssss https://brandiyorkart.com/products/dresden-files-death-featuring-queen-mab
This episode is the one in which Harry finally throws in his lot with Mab and the Winter Court, and has to seal the pact by slaughtering Lloyd Slate and having sex with Mab on the stone table. He comes back to himself as his friends hit him with several hundred volts of electricity because his heart has stopped, and as SOON as that is settled, Butters is shot.
Things are bonkers, is what I'm saying.

    ART CREDIT! https://www.deviantart.com/dresdenskinsart/art/Uriel-G8M-Character-Study-785992694
I really enjoy DresdenskinsArt's interpretation of the angel Uriel's appearance in this one. I can see how this dude turned up disguised as a janitor, and I'm really going to keep the image in mind going forward. It's a lot more interesting than the way I was picturing Uriel, anyway.
This episode deals with one of the roughest moments in the series, which is the moment in which Harry breaks his back and realizes that the time has come to make a deal. RoShawn is really taken aback (heh) by the fact that his daughter wasn't enough motivation, according to Jim Butcher, and that he needed another layer of torment heaped upon him, and she and I spend a little time wondering if Harry would have made a deal if he broke his back while fighting the other baddies he's encountered in previous books.
Thanks so much for listening, and thanks again to Brendan Hone for his help and research! We will see you next week!

    ART CREDIT! https://dresdenfiles.fandom.com/wiki/Odin?file=JabariWeathers-1.jpg
Welcome, kids, to the episode covering the chapters in which Harry finally meets Donar Vadderung, AKA Odin himself. RoShawn was a big fan of this section, and was a little bummed out that Butcher confirmed it was Odin in the text so that she didn't have a chance to show off her literary sleuthing.
Harry finds out that the purpose of the sacrifice is to cast a bloodline curse that will wipe out everyone on Harry's family tree, and we think over what that could mean. Why would someone bother, when Harry's family is so small? And how did they figure out who Maggie even was, to target her?
Thanks so much for listening, and we will be seeing you soon with a new episode!
