The Freedom Front Plus has promised to eradicate corruption, do away with cadre deployment and affirmative action, fix poor service delivery, as well as to restore reliable electricity supply. The party says after thirty years of the current government driving the country to the edge of ruin, the country needs a new dispensation. It also wants a recognition of group rights, promotion of independent communities, restoration of identity and protection of culture and diversity. Township business owners and street vendors in Cape Town, Western Cape, are reportedly operating in fear following a rise in syndicates demanding 'protection fees' from them. According to reports, a salon owner was shot dead at his place of business in Philippi, allegedly for refusing to pay protection money. Western Cape Police say they will continue to monitor the situation in Wellington, in the Cape Winelands, where a large group of foreign nationals who fled from their homes earlier this week due to safety concerns, have been reintegrated into the community. The foreign nationals were moved to a community hall following threats by community members after a murder occurred in the area. The newly established Labour party, aligned to AMCU has approached the Gauteng High Court to force the IEC to extend today's deadline for submissions of all required documents. This includes close to 60 thousand signatures for new parties and an election deposit of 750 thousand rands, which has to be paid by all parties. The Labour Party also contends that without this interdict it seeks through the court, the elections will not be free and fair. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Labour Party's secretariat, Krister van 

The National Taxi Alliance has threatened to escalate the taxi strike in Ekurhuleni to a national shutdown, should the authorities fail to meet its demand.  This as Scores of taxi commuters in Ekurhuleni were left stranded this morning due to a taxi strike. The NTA says the bus contracts issued in Ekhuruleni, do not reflect the entire taxi industry's stance on the aspect of it being accorded a stake in the issuance of a contract along routes it operates and have nurtured all the years.  Sakina Kamwendo spoke to National Taxi Alliance Spokesperson, Theo Malele

The ongoing strike by municipal workers in the eThekwini Municipality has begun to severely impact public healthcare facilities in KwaZulu-Natal. A number of facilities around the province have reported challenges in daily operations, as the wage strike by members affiliated with the South African Municipal Workers' Union rages on. Doctors and nurses at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital says they are battling without electricity for a third day, with community clinics in Hambanathi and Craigieburn having been forced to close their doors due to protestors blocking the roads and intimidating staff. The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial has continued with its bid to persuade the judge to allow alleged confession statements by the accused to be submitted as evidence. Five men are currently on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain, who was shot and killed while at the maternal home of his then girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo. The case of the four suspects who were brought in for questioning in relation to the disappearance of six-year-old, Joslin Smith has been postponed to the 13th of March for bail application. The Grade 1 learner disappeared from her home in Saldanah Bay, on the West Coast, on the 19th of February. Search operations involving her local community of Diazville, the police and the navy have yielded no positive results as yet. The details about the sale of South African Airways (SAA) for R51 to the Takatso Consortium are on the spotlight again in Parliament. This as the portfolio committee on Public Enterprises is expected to decide whether the documents on the SAA-Takatso deal can be made available to the public. There have been reports of tensions between Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan and Parliament's Public Enterprises Portfolio Committee  over the SAA - Takatso deal. Committee members are investigating Takatso's selection as the preferred equity partner to own a majority stake in the airline. The demand follows allegations of corruption and mismanagement surrounding SAA's sale. Takatso won the 51% stake in SAA just six weeks after the airline emerged from its business rescue.
