Numsa has called on the Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula to withdraw government's subsidy to the bus company PUTCO. This follows the decision by PUTCO to dismiss some of the workers that have embarked on an industrial action over wages and the non-payment of a  six percent increase which was allegedly agreed upon back in 2020. Numsa accuses PUTCO of frustrating workers by applying for partial exemption from the agreement instead of implementing it. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to Numsa's spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola.

 Prince Charles, the eldest son of Britain's late Queen Elizabeth, is expected back in London today where he will officially be named King Charles III. The former Prince of Wales takes over as the head of the Commonwealth and will be proclaimed as King at St James's Palace today. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to correspondent in London, Ross Cullen

The Gqeberha High Court is expected to make a ruling on the application filed by the Northern Alliance councillors for a review against the IEC to amend the party's PR List. The three councillors names were removed on the list after the City Manager declare a vacancy on their names in council, on the instruction of the party's Secretary. The councillors were granted an interim order to participate in council activities pending the outcome of this review. Yesterday the municipality appealed the interim order against the councillors which led to the adjournment of the council meeting. The Communication Workers Union has  expressed concern after the South African Post Office stopped paying crucial benefits such as medical aid for over 14-thousand employees. The union alleges that the workers have been left in limbo with some being slapped with medical schemes bills from service providers after the employer failed to settle their bills with medical practitioners. Parliament's Section 194 Inquiry looking into the fitness to hold office of the suspended Public Protector, Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has resumed today. Mkhwebane's legal counsel, Advocate Dali Mpofu has been engaging with the manager of legal services at Mkhwebane's office, Muntu Sithole.  Counsel for the 5th accused in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, advocate Zandile Mshololo has brought an application to the High Court in Pretoria over alleged irregularities. This after she received a copy of the second docket which implicates the people who were in the house when Meyiwa was shot in Vosloorus. A decision on the docket will however be made after the current trial has been finalised. Mshololo argues her client would have pleaded differently had they had the docket before the trial began. Limpopo police have launched a manhunt after five women were allegedly gang-raped during a business robbery at two funeral parlours situated next to each other along the R37 road near Malipsdrift. One man was shot and injured while six others were brutally assaulted by a group of the armed suspects who stormed into two funeral parlours, robbed employees of their cellphones and other belongings. The City of Johannesburg says in a fight against corruption, it will begin conducting lifestyle audits on all its councillors and senior executives. The initiative which begins this month, has been championed by the city's multi-party coalition government under the mayorship of DA councillor, Dr Mpho Phalatse. ActionSA in Johannesburg says the ousting of council speaker last night Vasco Da Gama is a minor obstacle and that the multi-party coalition remains committed to working together. Action SA has since condemned the action of what calls a handful of councillors who acted in their own selfish interests. Power utility, Eskom says it is considering disconnecting the City of Tshwane after the city failed to settle its R1.6 Billion bill which was due on the 17th of August 2022. The utility says this is one of the necessary steps in securing outstanding payment from the metro which has only  paid R68 million to date. The City says while it acknoledges the debt, it has faced challenges including the fact that on average residents pay the city in 60-day cycles while Eskom expects payment in 15 days.
