    A later-in-week edition of USCHO Spotlight allowed us to look back at the first round of the Beanpot, in which Boston College ended its streak of 25 non-conference losses, and Northeastern has given itself a chance for a second straight title.

    Hosts Jim Connelly (@JimmyConnelly) and Ed Trefzger (@EdTrefzger) also look at who's on the bubble and who's relatively safe in the PairWise Rankings, a look at Arizona State and the Sun Devils' post-season prospects, Bentley's nation-leading unbeaten streak, and American International's lead in Atlantic Hockey.

  • Ep. 16: Why replay isn't always the answer, losses in the top four, tight conference races
    An injury to a player for No. 20 North Dakota that didn't draw a penalty on No. 1 St. Cloud drew the ire of many on Friday, but the vantage point of properly positioned officials and limitations on how replay can be used explain why there wasn't a call. Hosts Jim Connelly (@JimmyConnelly) and Ed Trefzger (@EdTrefzger) delve into the issue and discuss some ways to improve the process.

    Besides the split between the Fighting Hawks and Huskies, No. 2 UMass split with Maine, which may help the Black Bears cement a Hockey East playoff spot, and No. 13 Western Michigan made a statement by sweeping No. 4 Denver.

    It was a good weekend for No. 14 Providence in a sweep of No. 8 Northeastern in a home-and-home series.

    No. 17 Arizona State's PairWise volatility points to its need to win to make the NCAA tournament.

    Plus: a quick look at bunched up standings across the six conferences.

    The end to streaks by Western Michigan (at the hands of St. Cloud) and Lake Superior (who split with Minnesota State);

    Clarkson's eight-game winning streak;

    The home-and-home split with UMass and Northeastern;

    And American International's four-point lead in Atlantic Hockey.

  • Ep. 13: First weekend of 2019 full of upsets, silver medal for USA at World Juniors
    If ever there were an indication of the parity now in NCAA D-I men's hockey, it was this past weekend's slew of upsets, with several top teams losing, including St. Cloud, UMass, and Quinnipiac, as well as a weekend sweep of North Dakota by Canisius, putting the Fighting Hawks' at-large postseason prospects at risk.

    Hosts Jim Connelly and Ed Trefzger also look at USA's silver medal in the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship.

  • Ep. 12: WJC update, why it's time for NCAA to embrace 3v3 OT, holiday tournament update
    Three first-round games are in the books for USA in the World Junior Championship. Hosts Jim Connelly and Ed Trefzger look back at those, as well as asking (and answering) whether the team's performance in 3-on-3 overtime against Sweden points to the need for that overtime format in NCAA hockey. We also look at some holiday tournament results, including Clarkson's win of the Desert Hockey Classic, and milestones hit by Quinnipiac's Rand Pecknold and Providence's Nate Leaman.

    USCHO.com's Game of the Week was the home-and-home series between Quinnipiac and Massachusetts, with each team taking the home contest. Is the split enough to keep UMass at No. 1 in the USCHO poll?

    Ed Trefzger and guest host Dan Rubin also look at Boston College's sweep of UConn, which puts the Eagles in first place in Hockey East, the Big Ten series between Notre Dame and Penn State, Arizona State's sweep, some sleeper teams, some poll predictions, and more.
