Nehemiah and the Jews were making progress on the walls of Jerusalem. And word had spread. People began to hear the news. And out came the naysayers.

Sandballat and Tobiah came by, the original Debbie Downer and Negative Nancy. They began mocking the Jews, asking their snarky and sarcastic questions, making fun of the work being done. But Nehemiah and the workers ignored the criticism, and got the job done.

As a church, and as individual Christians, we are going to face a lot of the same negativity that Nehemiah and the Jews faced. People are going to mock us and ask their sarcastic, demeaning questions. Do we have what it take to get the job done?

We often think of God sitting up in Heaven, looking down on us, observing and watching, like a heavenly ant farm owner. But that's not the case at all. Instead, He is very present in time of need and trouble.

Heaven isn't as far away as we think. God is near to us in our worship, in our work, in our wickedness, and in our weakness. Turn to Him. Lean on Him. Call on Him. Like a runner waiting in the block for the starting gun to fire, God anxiously awaits for us to call out to Him!
