Christianity is full of what some people call "five-dollar words." These are big Bible words that we hear at times but never fully understand what they mean. Dispensationalism? The anthropomorphic nature of God? Legalism? Atonement?

This morning Pastor Jared tackles one of those types of words as we continue to examine His Coming. Today we are learning about The Providence of His Coming. But before we can see how it pertains to the birth of Christ have to define the word.

Providence has a meaning preparation, protective care, and provision. All of these apply to the birth of our Savior!

Sunday Morning, December 9th, 2018 - The People of His Coming - Pastor Jared Shumate

Have you ever researched your family genealogy? People love exploring the roots of their ancestors and seeing just how far back they can trace their lineage.

The book of Matthew does this for Jesus Christ. Beginning with Adam, we see in the scripture all 14 generations that led to our Savior. In fact, you can go back one more generation, to the 15th, where God created Adam. It's the only lineage that began with God and ultimately ended with Him as well.

Many of those people are unknown other than their names being listed in these verses. We have a hard time pronouncing their names. You've probably never heard of them. Maybe no one ever heard of those names even when they were living. They are the forgotten generations of Jesus.

But there's good news! God never forgot them, and He'll never forget you either! Sometimes you may feel forgotten among men. But, take comfort in knowing that the God of Heaven will NEVER forget you!

Sunday Evening, December 2nd, 2018 - Where are we Baptists? - Pastor Jared Shumate

The timeline of Christian growth begins with being unsaved, then after we have accepted the gift of salvation we are to be baptized. After that we should join a local church assembly, then we should begin communicating with God on a regular basis and building a relationship with God, then we should begin living for God, and ultimately fulfilling the Great Commission and telling others about God.

While all of these are important in the growth of a Christian, we at Valley View are literally named after one of these acts. We are an independent baptist church. Baptism is a prime function of our denomination. But what does it mean to be a Baptist? Why are we Baptists?

Tonight Pastor Jared shows us the details of baptism and why we call ourselves Baptists.

Sunday Morning, December 2nd, 2018 - His Coming, Pt 1 - The Prophecy of His Coming - Pastor Jared Shumate

As we enter into December we are officially in the Christmas season. We begin to hustle and hustle about, getting presents purchased and wrapped, getting the house ready for visitors, getting food prepared and ready. But never let the business of the season detract from Christ's birth.

This morning Pastor Jared began a December series titled His Coming. Over the upcoming weeks we are going to be looking at several aspects of the birth of Christ. Today we looked back more than 500 years before His birth to The Prophecy of His Coming.

Take a look at the language used in Isaiah 9:6 and you will notice the very present tenses used there. You will notice several very descriptive names given to the Savior. You will see the pure authority of Christ in His birth.
