This episode of Veteran Voices features Theodore "Ted" Turner. Ted joined the military in August 2000 as a Wheel Mechanic. After five deployments, he made it to the rank of Sergeant First Class (E-7) before becoming and retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer. He has served in the greatest divisions such as 101ST Airborne Division (Air Assault), 82nd Airborne Division, 1ST Infantry Division, and 1ST Special Force Command to name a few. He is currently relocating back to Atlanta, GA, to use what he gained and learned in the military to pursue his next career.

This episode of Veteran Voices features Dr. Amy Stevens. Dr. Amy Stevens, Ed.D. LPC is a mental health consultant and passionate military veteran advocate in Marietta, GA. She works with numerous federal, state and local agencies which seek to provide mental health services to service members, veterans and their families. She is the Founder of Georgia Military Women which has almost 4000 active members and has numerous activities across the State of Georgia. She is also Chief of Women Veterans and Chief Healthcare Officer on the Board of Directors of VetLanta in Atlanta which brings corporate entities and non-profits together to serve veterans. Her most recent full time position was Director of Psychological Health for the Georgia National Guard. Dr. Stevens is a service disabled U.S. Navy veteran and is retired from the U.S. Department of Labor. Her undergraduate degree is from Liberty University. She has a Master’s in Education from The Citadel, a Master’s in Applied Behavioral Counseling from Johns Hopkins and a Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University. Dr. Stevens is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Georgia and a volunteer Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Manager.

"Veteran Transition Stories: Tyler Bowser with VEO"

This episode featured Tyler Bowser. Tyler is a United States Air Force Veteran and served honorably from 1996 to 2000. While in the Air Force, Tyler worked as a Satellite and Wideband communications journeyman. In his 4 year career in the Air Force he found an amazing sense of camaraderie with his fellow Airmen. He deployed to South West Asia in support of Operation Southern Watch. After leaving the Air Force he found it extremely difficult to acclimate to the civilian world. The team of leaders and managers that wanted to see him succeed inside of the Air Force was not present in corporate America.

In 2008, Tyler found an opportunity to re-join the mission he loved and began work as a DoD contractor in Afghanistan. He worked for 3 years at various bases and FOB’s downrange in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After returning from Afghanistan a series of life challenges led to self-destructive behavior. He was fueling his mental health illnesses with a steady supply of alcohol and found himself unemployed and living in his car. On July 5th 2016 his car was repossessed and he had nowhere to go. He made his way to Ft. McPherson and was placed in an emergency bed in a shelter downtown. He knew that that environment was not going to be conducive to his success and was able to be transferred to a Veterans focused facility, Veterans Empowerment Organization. Tyler made a decision that it was time to try a new way of life. On July 10th of 2016 he had his last drink and enrolled into an outpatient program for substance abuse at Ft. McPherson. He felt his life begin to change. He finally felt at peace while staying at VEO. He committed himself to the recovery program and continues to stay sober, celebrating 3 years of continuous sobriety in July of this year. In October of 2016 Tyler joined the development team as an apprentice. Using his experience in Business Development he developed relationships with local Fortune 500 companies and engaged them to financially support the VEO. Today Tyler is thriving as an Ambassador and Development Officer for the organization. He is now married and has 2 amazing stepchildren. He chose to stay and work with VEO as a means to give back to an organization that helped provide all of the tools to regain self-sufficiency.

"An Interview with Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient David Bellavia”

This episode features David Bellavia. Staff Sgt. David G. Bellavia was born, Nov. 10, 1975, in Buffalo, New York. Following his high school graduation in 1994, Bellavia attended Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire, and the University at Buffalo, where he studied biology and theater before turning to the military. Bellavia enlisted in the U.S. Army as an infantryman in 1999. After One Station Unit Training, the Army assigned Bellavia to the Syracuse Recruiting Battalion, In the summer of 2003, Bellavia’s unit deployed to Kosovo for nine months before receiving orders to deploy directly to Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom. From February 2004 to February 2005, Bellavia and the 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, were stationed in the Diyala Province along the Iranian border. Bellavia left the Army in August 2005 and cofounded Vets for Freedom, a veteran advocacy organization that sought to separate politics from the warriors who fight in the field. Their membership consisted of tens of thousands of veterans who fought in Iraq and Afghanistan. Bellavia returned to Iraq as an embedded reporter in 2006 and 2008 where he covered the heavy fighting in Ramadi, Fallujah and Diyala Province. Bellavia’s awards and decorations include the Medal of Honor, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal with Bronze Clasp and two Loops, the National Defense Service Medal, Kosovo Campaign Medal with Bronze Service Star, New York State’s Conspicuous Service Cross, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with Numeral “2,” the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral “2,” the Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge, Driver and Mechanics Badge and the NATO Medal. As a Managing Director at Citigroup, John Tien currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for Citi Retail Services’ largest American Express co-brand credit card portfolio, which provides credit card support to over 20 million Citi customers. As a retired U.S. Army Colonel, John also serves as the national Co-Head of the Citi Salutes program (www.CitiSalutes.com) which is Citi’s firm-wide initiative that supports U.S. military veterans and military families both internal to the company and in the communities where Citi works and lives. In this role, John provides national leadership for Citi’s several industry-leading veterans effort which includes Citi’s strategic partnerships with: Veterans On Wall Street (VOWS); the Military.com Military Transition mobile app; the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation; The Mission Continues; Team Rubicon; and the Columbia University Center for Veteran Transition and Integration. Prior to joining Citi and in his last active tour of duty, John was a senior national security advisor to both President Obama and President Bush.

Kevin Horgan served as a USMC infantry officer from 1979 to 1984. He transitioned to civilian life attending law school and loading trucks for UPS on the same day, two weeks after walking off MCRD San Diego. Kevin retired from UPS in 2017 after 33 years of service in operations, engineering, and corporate real estate. He currently works with VETLANTA and other veteran projects in the community. Kevin and his wife Maureen have four adult children and three grandchildren. Episode 174 of Supply Chain Now Radio features Stephen Smitley and Dan Solla. Stephen Smitley is Lead Singer for Disciples Of Danger. He served 8 Years in the United States Marine Corps, including a tour in Afghanistan in 2008 for 8 months with 24th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit) BLT 1/6 (Battalion Landing Team - 1st Battalion 6th Marines). While overseas Stephen served as a Generator Operator attached to a Grunt unit. He was also an Electrician and went on a few patrols to help with the unit’s electrical gear. Stephen attended the Chattanooga State Community college for 2 years for Pre-Med. He later decided to pursue his career in music and pursue a degree in Audio/Video production, where he eventually went to AIA (Art Institute of Atlanta for 2 years). Stephen’s been doing music most of his life, so the choice was right. He was an online personality for Twitch.tv for 4 1/2 years. Stephen decided to put his main focus into music again. Dan Solla is the Managing Director of the PTSD Foundation of America’s Atlanta Chapter. The Foundation provides residential treatment, interim housing and facilitates support groups, and outdoor team building exercises and events. Dan is a combat veteran having enlisted in the Army Infantry shortly after the attacks of Sep. 11, 2001. He served 15 months in combat as an Infantry Rifleman with 1/36 INF of the 1st Armored Division. Dan has a bachelors in Political Science from The University of Tennessee and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the UT College of Law. Jerai Robins is a Talent Acquisition Specialist at UPS, assigned to the corporate Talent Acquisition Team based in Atlanta, Georgia. Jerai served in the US Army for nine years. While on active duty service, Jerai served as a Human Resource Specialist amongst her many skill sets. Jerai was also deployed to Operation Iraqi and Enduring Freedom while on active duty. Jerai continues her service since leaving active duty by devoting her time by being an active advocate within the Veteran community here in Atlanta. Lillian Norton is a West Point graduate and former US Army Military Intelligence Captain with 19 years of professional experience. Lillian places an emphasis on new product development grounded in consumer insights. She has led global new product launches from initial concept development through commercialization and launch in market. This episode features Matthew Grob, Lloyd Knight, and Christopher Plamp. Matthew Grob serves as the U.S. Department of Labor’s representative for the Veterans Employment Outreach Program for the Southeast US since June 2015. Matthew provides consultative expertise and advisory services to regional and national employers through direct engagement and strategic partnerships with Veterans’ service organizations, state workforce partners and government agencies to promote Veterans’ employment opportunities. Matthew enlisted in the US Army in 1989 and served as an Intelligence Specialist in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, and tours in Germany and Italy.

Christopher Plamp joined Hire Heroes USA after leaving the Air Force as a colonel in May 2014. He was an Air Force Command Pilot, flight instructor and evaluator, primarily flying the A-10 Warthog, the MQ-1B Unmanned Predator, the UV-18B Twin Otter, and the TG-16 Sailplane. He was an A-10 Fighter Squadron Director of Operations, and an MQ-1B Reconnaissance Squadron Commander, as well as a Flying Training Group Commander at the United States Air Force Academy. He also served in the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC) as the director of a four-star generals Commander’s Action Group (CAG). In his final position, Christopher was director of one of only two NATO Combined Air Operations Centers, which were responsible for the military air defense of the 14 NATO countries in Northern Europe.

Lloyd Knight is a Senior Director of International Air Freight based at UPS Supply Chain Solutions corporate campus in Alpharetta, GA. Lloyd began his career with UPS in 2007 and in addition to his current assignment has served multiple capacities including Director of Global Freight Forwarding, Director of Global Government Operations and Government Operations Manager. In addition to these roles, Lloyd has been selected for several special assignments including a six month rotation with corporate HR establishing the UPS Veterans Management Training Program, a six week deployment to Hong Kong in 2017 to support peak season and the Chairman of the UPS Veterans Council in 2019. Lloyd retired from the Air Force in 2007 after 20 years of service. During his military service, Lloyd logged over 3,000 flight hours as a Loadmaster on several aircraft including the C-141 Starlifter, C-5 Galaxy, and C-23 Sherpa. He also served as a Functional Manager at HQ Air Mobility Command and First Sergeant for Medical and Communications Squadrons.

This award is given annually to just one of 454,000 global UPS employees for demonstrating an exceptional commitment to helping others in their community. He is also two time recipient of the President's Volunteer Service Award and was awarded an Atlanta Journal Constitution Hometown Hero Award in 2018. Lloyd has associate degrees in Aircrew Operations and Human Resources Management from the Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree in Transportation & Logistics Management from American Military University. John W. Phillips is author of the Amazon best seller “Boots to Loafers” and is co-founder & Vice President for VETLANTA. He has had a distinguished career in both military and civilian service. John is a retired US Army Field Artillery officer and Comptroller with 20+ years of service in Corps Artillery, Division Artillery, Army Headquarters and Forces Command, the largest command and the generating force provider for combatant commanders - at home and abroad. He has served in Europe, throughout the Middle East and the United States. He has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge among other awards and decorations. John has worked in corporate finance, program and project management, and sales roles for The Coca-Cola Company located in Atlanta, Georgia. In his spare time, John spends his time in either the mountains of North Georgia fly fishing, in the British Virgin Islands sailing with his wife or out west camping, rafting or canoeing with his best friends. John holds a BS in Finance from University of Central Florida and an MBA from Syracuse University. John lives in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains outside the Atlanta area with his wife.
