  • Republicans Play Chess with People as Pawns

The polls are still (hopefully?) broken. The stakes are more unprecedented than ever.

Last week, the Supreme Court unanimously protected the abortion pill, mifepristone (for now), but didn’t close the door to hear new cases involving plaintiffs “with standing.” They also protected bump stocks, a tool that effectively turns a semi-automatic rifle into a machine gun. Now Senate Republicans are playing games and blocking Senate Democrats’ attempts to write the TRUMP ban into law. We get into the games the NRA and Republicans have played since that ban was put into effect in 2017.

Continuing with SCOTUS, Brian and Glennis catch up on the drama with the Alitos and their extremist, vindictive ideologies laid bare in a secret audio recording.

Then, they talk about the latest example of Sinclair Broadcasting Group pushing scripts with a national political agenda onto local news outlets across the country.

Finally, they discuss Democrats’ strategy leading into the ‘24 election - how the Biden campaign is messaging on his own record, plans, and the contrast with his opponent (a convicted felon).

  • Guilty x 34

No more deliberations The verdict is in. The fallout from the first former president in American history to be a convicted felon continues. The Trump campaign and conservative media like Fox News are in lockstep, suggesting that "they" are coming after "you," and Donald Trump is just standing in the way... absurd.

We also discuss an eyebrow raising new report from ProPublica about Trump's sweetheart treatment of 9 witnesses in his criminal trials.

Then we’ll talk about the Right to Contraception Act VOTE that Senator Chuck Schumer is calling today.

Don't forget to text in your answers to our group chat question: what's something you do, particularly if you're traveling abroad, that's a dead give away that you're an American?

  • Is It Too Early for a Full-Blown Freakout?

No burying obviously newsworthy stories.  NO full-blown freakouts.  Just Vibes. And the vibes this week:

    • We learned this weekend that The Washington Post knew about nod to Stop the Steal at Justice Samuel Alito's house in January of 2021 but decided it...wasn't worth mentioning to the public.
    • A number of media outlets, pundits and Dem strategists have been recently sounding the alarms - POLITICO saying Dems are in "full-blown freakout" mode over Biden's chances in '24.
      • The New York Times wrote an article about the role that  "tuned-out" Trump-curious voters will have on the election.
      • And Dan Pfeiffer wrote in his newsletter, The Message Box, that TikTok is helping elect Donald Trump.
    • Also, in a week that we could see the first criminal conviction of an American president, the New York Times published a story titled "Trump Leans Into an Outlaw Image as His Criminal Trial Concludes"

We get into all that before pulling up our group chat, playing an "it's giving" and leaving you with a good vibe. Don't forget to text us with your answer to our group chat question of the week!

CORRECTION: We were actually talking about the Columbia space shuttle disaster and erroneously referred to it as the Challenger.

  • More Than Alito Problem

The courts are broken. The stakes are unprecedented.  And the vibes this week…

Brian and Glennis discuss the public display of - not just partisanship, but MAGA allegiance - at Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito's household. ICYMI, it was JUST reported that an upside down flag, a symbol adopted by the "stop the steal" crowd, was raised at Alito's house mere days after the Jan 6 capitol riot.

They also talk about Trump's unhinged NRA speech where he, ya know, casually floated serving a third term.

Then they give an update on Trump's New York trial as both the prosecution AND defense have rested their cases and it's now left up to the jury.

  • The Hottest Club in NY is… the Manhattan Courthouse

No pollsters. No media pundits "running around with their hair on fire." Just vibes. And the vibes this week:

    • A new Times/Siena poll dropped this week that, again, showed Trump leading in 5 of 6 key swing states. We talk about the media discourse since it dropped.
    • Michael Cohen testified this week in the case involving Trump paying off Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal off in exchange for their silence in order to protect his 2016 campaign.
    • Glennis and Brian preview a new podcast from COURIER called Grave Injustice. To understand the right-wing takeover of the Supreme Court and the cases that the Court is about to deliver rulings on... find, follow and listen to Grave Injustice on Apple, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts!
    • And Trump made some big promises to oil execs and asked them for $1 billion in order to deliver.

  • Minority Rule

This week, Brian and Glennis are joined by Ari Berman to talk about his new book, Minority Rule: The Right-Wing Attack on the Will of the People―and the Fight to Resist It.  Ari lays out how our entire system of government, from its founding, was designed to benefit a select few (white, land-owning men). They also talk about how Donald Trump has exploited that system and the stakes of this year's election.

Brian and Glennis kick off the episode with an update on how MTG and company are trying to make nice with Speaker Mike John son for their dear leader, DJT's sake.

They play an IT'S GIVING, pull up their GROUP CHAT, and leave you with a GOOD VIBE!

  • Will Gen Z Save Us (and Themselves)?

This week, we are pleased to be joined by NextGen America president, Cristina Tzintzún Ramirez, for a vibe check on the youth vote. Cristina tells us where we are and how Democrats need to message to hold and strengthen turnout and enthusiasm for Gen Z and Millennial voters.

Brian and Glennis also discuss the Time Magazine article that used interviews with Trump and some of his closest allies to outline the dystopia that a second Trump term would bring.

In the GROUP CHAT this week - Kristi Noem, puppy killer + Drew Barrymore gets up close and personal with VP "Mamala" Harris.

  • Everything You Need to Know About Trump's Legal Hot Water (This Week)

Not a judge or a jury. Not fake electors. Nope. The ‘24 election and the fate of democracy hinges on… say it with us… Vibes.  The vibes this week:

Joe Biden signed a foreign aid bill into which also included a forced sale of TikTok.

Donald Trump faced a litany of legal battles including the 2016 Election Interference (hush money) trial which is underway,  a hearing on whether he is in contempt of the court for violating his gag order, and he (and his cronies - Mark Meadows and Rudy Giuliani) were named un-indicted conspirators in TWO State's false elector's plots (MI and AZ).  In addition to ALL OF THAT, SCOTUS heard his "immunity" claim.

Speaking of SCOTUS, they also heard a case to decide whether women could receive (and doctors could give) an abortion in case of EMERGENCY in state's with bans.

Finally, we discuss two prominent, legacy GOP politicians who took the same information about Donald Trump and his attempts to steal the 2020 election, and even arrived at the same conclusions, but made two very different choices for how to handle the upcoming 2024 presidential election.  That's Bill Barr and Liz Cheney.

Listen for all that, a round of IT'S GIVING,  a stop in our GROUP CHAT, and a GOOD VIBE to say goodbye on.

  • Drowsy Don on Trial

This week on Vibes Only:  History is made as Trump becomes the first President in US history to stand criminal trial for falsifying business records to reimburse his former “fixer,” Michael Cohen, for paying porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in October 2016 to stay quiet about an alleged affair with Trump (while BTW, Melania was at home with their new-born son). Brian and Glennis discuss the sleepy start to the trial.

Camaron Stevenson, Founding Editor and Chief Political Correspondent for The Copper Courier, joins to take a deeper look into the Arizona Supreme Court decision that enacted a no exceptions abortion ban from 1864.

Next, the gang talks about the latest in the MAGA Mike Speaker saga involving MAGA Marjorie, and Trump himself.
