São Benedito do Sul, Brazil. Een quilombo is een gemeenschap van gevluchte slaven, en we bevinden ons op de locatie van de misschien wel meest bekende quilombo in Brazilië, waar zichzelf bevrijde tot slaaf gemaakte mensen een leven van dwangarbeid en geweld hadden weten te ontsnappen.

São Benedito do Sul, Brazil. A quilombo is a remote, inland settlement originally settled by fugitive slaves, and, here, we find ourselves at the location of the Quilombo dos Palmares, a place sacred to the memory of the enslaved people brought from Africa to Brazil for a life of forced labour and violence starting in the 16th century.

Recife, Brazil. Em relação à figura de Maurice de Nassau, os jornais locais mais importantes, como o Diário da Manhã, ainda tendiam a elogiá-lo no século XX.

Jakarta, Indonesia. Estamos no pátio interno do Museu Wayang na Cidade Velha de Jacarta. Antes de o edifício atual ser erguido, em 1912, este era o local da Nova Igreja Holandesa, e antes disso, da Antiga Igreja Holandesa, construída no local do cemitério holandês.

Jakarta, Indonesia. We bevinden ons op de binnenplaats van het Wayang Museum in de oude binnenstad van Jakarta. Voor de bouw van het huidige pand in 1912, stond hier de Nieuwe Nederlandse Kerk en daarvoor de Oude Nederlandse Kerk, die zelf was gebouwd op de plek van een Nederlandse begraafplaats.

Jakarta, Indonesia. We find ourselves in the inner courtyard of the Wayang Museum in Jakarta Old Town. Before the current building was erected in 1912, this was the site of the New Dutch Church, and before that the Old Dutch Church, itself constructed on the site of the Dutch cemetery.

Recife, Brazil. Aqui, do Alto da Sé, ponto mais alto da cidade de Olinda, no estado de Pernambuco, Nordeste do Brasil, se vê praticamente toda a extensão da cidade que, no Século 17, era uma fonte inesgotável de recursos para a exploração da colônia portuguesa.

Recife, Brazil. Hier, vanaf Alto da Sé, het hoogste punt in Olinda, kun je bijna de hele stad overzien. Olinda was, in de 17e eeuw, een bijna onuitputtelijke bron van rijkdom voor de Portugese heerser.
