Children’s MaterialsGood morning parents!
This week we are learning about the call of Moses by God through the burning bush. Ask your kids how Moses must have felt when he learned that God wanted HIM to confront the Israelites. How must he have felt when he saw the Lord through a burning bush? Talk about the Lords power and how we can allow this story of Moses to inspire reverence and faith in our own selves as we seek to follow the Lord in faith.

Children’s MaterialsGood morning parents,
Today we are continuing in Chapter 2 of Exodus with our families. Moses is at the very beginning of his journey as a leader and hero to the Israelites and he runs away in fear to a foreign land in an attempt to hide. Talk to your children about your personal heroes, or times you've personally felt called to a task and have wanted to run away from that call. How have you or the great people you admire worked through those fears? How has your relationship with the Lord strengthened you during times of great distress? Perhaps you are going through a time of fear right now during this Corona virus pandemic. Remind yourselves and your families that God doesn't ask us to be stoic warriors in the face of scary situations. He simply asks us to have faith in Him and what he is doing. Talk about what it could look like for you and your children to exercise faith in the difficult situations you face.

Children’s MaterialsHey Parents!
Here's a coloring page for you and your littles to do together as you discuss the four women in the first chapter of Exodus who play gigantic roles in support of Moses during an incredibly vulnerable time in Israel's history. Someone once told me that the story of Exodus is the story of a God who "takes sides." He chooses the weak and the oppressed to display his glory. Talk with your children about what it feels like to be weak. Talk to them about the power of God. Consider how the women who helped baby Moses survive allowed the power of God to work through them in their positions of relative powerlessness.
Love,
Courtney

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Parents,
Here's a helpful video for you to watch with your kids this weekend, introducing them to the character of Moses. How wonderful to explore the fact that the Lord protected Moses as a child, utilizing his adopted family to prepare him to lead the Israelites to freedom. Explore these themes with your children this weekend!

Children’s MaterialsHey Parents! Lets watch the Bible project's overview of the first half of Exodus together with our families this weekend. This will be a wonderful opportunity for all of us to get our minds and imaginations moving as we prepare to watch Moses trust the Lord and lead his people out of slavery.

Children’s MaterialsHey parents! Here's a great video to watch with your kids this weekend as we learn from our guest preacher, Pastor Byron Johnson, about how to handle FEAR. In Phillippians, Paul tells us that we can bring our fears to the Lord and he will comfort our hearts. He also tells us how to train our minds to focus on what is pure and lovely so that fear remains in the background of life, as opposed to controlling our every move. These are my favorite verses for growing in maturity around the issue of fear and anxiety and I hope you will find comfort as you talk to you kids about how to walk with the lord in and through our fears together.

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Parents,
This weekend we are learning about the 73rd Psalm from Lee Kynes. As an activity for discussing this Psalm with your family, consider playing Shane and Shane’s “My Portion” for your family while you prepare a meal. Ask them what they think David means when he says “God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Pray with them during the day or before bedtime and ask the Lord to show each member of your family that He is strong enough to keep their hearts from fear and anxiety, confessing to him where this is difficult. I pray He will show up tenderly with you and your children in these moments and that your children will see tangibly that their parents can speak with the Lord in both their joys and their doubts.
With love,
Courtney

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Parents,
I am loving these short scripture meditations available to us from YouTube on the Psalms. I appreciate that they encourage us to a moment of quiet for meditation on the Word of God. Meditation on scripture is a historic Christian practice and one that gets short attention in our hyper real world that wants a lot of quick information, often with little depth. Take 5-10 minutes and mediate on Psalm 91 with your child(ren) sometime this week. What does it look like for us to know that the Lord is our protector and our fortress? What could it look like for us to live as though this is the case?
With love,
Courtney

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Parents,
In the weeks going forward, I plan to share videos and helpful materials that correspond with each weeks sermon passage. Our current curriculum can be fairly demanding of our time and energy and so I want to make things a bit easier on our overtaxed families.
This week, Pastor Matt is teaching on the 23rd Psalm. I enjoyed this video on that Psalm. It is a guided prayer and meditation time that you can have with your children and is in keeping with a personal desire I have for the families at our church. My hope is that we will be literate in both the scriptures AND the historic Christian practices of the worldwide church of Christ. Two of those practices are prayer and meditation on the word of God. So enjoy this short video with your children. It does not take much time at all and is a helpful way to engage your kiddos in the presence of the Lord.
With love,
Courtney

Greetings Village Church Parents! Here's a wonderful lesson about racial diversity for your kids. Check it out this weekend after church as we wrap up our current series. It will be fun to show our kiddos how the Lord delights in our differences.
