This week, we are studying Ezra’s reading of the law to the Israelites at the end of the book of Nehemiah. As you share with them, remind them about the power of God’s word. It can convict us and move us to repentance as it did to the Israelites who realized they had not been living as the Lord intended for them. Pray that the Lord would convict your hearts and the hearts of your children so that you may all turn and walk in the ways of the Lord.

Courtney

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Parents,
This weekend the kids are studying the book of Nehemiah. Coming off of last week’s study of Esther, I am struck about the fact that God always has a plan, a person and a story He’s telling the world. Esther and Nehemiah felt ill equipped at times for their callings. This is understandable and, I believe, an important part of the believer’s journey. As you study Nehemiah this weekend with your children, take note with them about how Nehemiah proceeds. Often times the scripture is clear that he takes time out to pray and seek the Lord. At other times he pauses on his primary work of rebuilding the wall to address issues related to possible attack or, somewhat surprisingly, to address a concern related to the poor and disadvantaged in his midst (see chapter 5). Consider what story the Lord is trying to tell through Nehemiah with your children. I think the key passage highlighted by the leader guides are helpful here: 1 Peter 5:10. The Lord ultimately seeks to restore his “prone to wander” people. He ultimately wants a strong, firm and steadfast people who reveal his glory in a broken world. What part of the story of suffering and redemption are you in as a family? What part of that story are we in as a nation? Be encouraged. The Lord is telling a good, good story through it ALL. He will restore us and make us stronger and more steadfast than we were before if we stay connected to Him as Nehemiah did.
Love,
Courtney

Children’s MaterialsGreetings Village Church Parents,
This weekend I am excited to tackle the story of Esther with our kids in Sunday school. Esther is one of my favorite biblical leaders because she is emotionally honest about her fears while not allowing her fears to take the driver’s seat of her life. Esther stays connected to the Lord and accomplishes difficult and important work on behalf of her people. Such a worthy lesson for our children at the Village. I hope you enjoy studying this story with your kids this weekend. You will find helpful resources in this week's leader guides and coloring sheets.
With love,
Courtney

Greetings Village church families!
Memorial Day weekend is an “off” weekend for Sunday school at the Village Church. There is no official curriculum for you and your children to review together this week. Your mission therefore, should you choose to accept it, is to DELIGHT in the Lord together as a family. This season has been stressful for us all and I’ve never been more convinced that our Lord longs for us to come to him and enjoy him as much as we possibly can. One of my favorite things to do with my kids is to turn on worship music just before the dinner hour and have a dance party. Its good for my heart, its fun for the kids, and I feel the Lords presence there with us as we enjoy him and each other together. A few favorite bands for us are the Rend Collective, Hillsong and Elevation Worship - if you are looking for some places to get started.
So, turn the volume up and have some fun. The Lord will be with you.
Love,
Courtney

Greetings parents!
This weekend, our kids are studying the book of Zechariah in Sunday school. There is so much content here that you can focus on and I encourage you to take it where the Spirit leads you. The leader guides are very helpful in these lessons where we cover so much ground. In this lesson, I personally appreciate the reality that Israel has hit a standstill in their work to restore the temple. They have hit roadblocks and are frustrated. But the Lord sends Zechariah to remind the people of their past and to encourage them through Zechariah’s visions for the future. Its encouraging to know that even when we are at what feels like a standstill with the work we’ve set out to do, God has a plan in mind that’s often much grander than what we could have imagined. He knows the plans he has for us - what an encouraging thought to consider with our children this weekend.
With love,
Courtney

This weekend we will continue in the book of Ezra for our Sunday school Lesson with our kids. It strikes me that these chapters are great reminders to us that though our plans in partnership with God can be frustrated by setbacks, the Lord will ultimately prevail on our behalf. I think you will find the leader guides very helpful to you as you attempt to navigate these chapters with your kids. Take a look and have fun! As always, I have included the activity pages for your younger kids to color as you discuss.
Cheers,
Courtney

Greetings Parents!
If you are continuing to follow the Sunday School curriculum with your family, you and your kids will be studying about the return of the Jews from Babylon to Judah in the first three chapters of Ezra. I have just read them for myself and am struck by the fact that God keeps his promises to his children, even after 70 long years of exile. He does not forget or change his mind about his purposes and that is so encouraging. I hope you are able to study this reality with your children and marvel with them about the Lord's faithfulness together.
I continue to include an older and younger version of the lesson each week, depending on your family's needs, as well as the activity/coloring pages for your young children. The coloring pages are great ways to start a conversation with your kids about these stories...I highly recommend those!
Best,
Courtney
