In a recent poll, many Americans believe they can’t trust the mainstream media and that it’s a major threat to democracy. Gallup has more:  

At 34%, Americans' trust in the mass media to report the news "fully, accurately and fairly" is essentially unchanged from last year and just two points higher than the lowest that Gallup has recorded, in 2016 during the presidential campaign. 

Just 7% of Americans have "a great deal" of trust and confidence in the media, and 27% have "a fair amount." Meanwhile, 28% of U.S. adults say they do not have very much confidence and 38% have none in newspapers, TV and radio. Notably, this is the first time that the percentage of Americans with no trust at all in the media is higher than the percentage with a great deal or a fair amount combined.

With midterms fast approaching, democrats are pushing the issue of abortion to mask the economic issues that they have created. The New York Times has more:  

Armed with polling data that shows that the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn the constitutional right to an abortion has moved independent voters in their direction, they have reoriented their campaigns around the issue in the crucial final weeks before the election. 

The strategy is built around the hope that in the handful of close races that will determine control of the House, the demise of federal abortion rights has energized independent voters and conservative-leaning women so intensely that it could allow otherwise vulnerable Democrats to eke out victories that previously seemed out of reach.

The shooting that occurred in Raleigh yesterday is just the latest tragic event after five people were left dead while two more were shot and injured. BBC News has more:  

Five people including an off-duty police officer were killed and two were injured in a shooting spree that unfolded Thursday night. 

The suspect is in critical condition in hospital. 

The shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood near the Neuse River Greenway, a popular trail on the outskirts of the state capital. 

A motive is yet to be established, but Raleigh Police Chief Estella Patterson said the investigation remains ongoing. 

"My heart is heavy, because we don't have answers as to why this tragedy occurred," Chief Patterson said at a Friday morning news conference.

In a recent story by Yahoo, Core U.S. inflation has risen to a 40 year high: 

A closely watched measure of US consumer prices rose by more than forecast to a 40-year high in September, pressuring the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates even more aggressively to stamp out persistent inflation.

The core consumer price index, which excludes food and energy, increased 6.6% from a year ago, the highest level since 1982, Labor Department data showed Thursday. From a month earlier, the core CPI climbed 0.6% for a second month.

The overall CPI increased 0.4% last month, and was up 8.2% from a year earlier.

Also, woke policies are having a major impact on the military's ability to attract new recruits. The Hill reports: 

Members of the hard-line conservative House Freedom Caucus are calling on Republican leaders to delay passage of the annual defense authorization bill until after the new year if its demands, like repealing the military’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, are not met.

In January, a new Congress may include GOP majorities in either the House or Senate that can “rework” the legislation, the group said.

Former congresswoman and 2020 presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard announced she is no longer part of the Democratic Party. NPR has more:  

"I can no longer remain in today's Democratic party," she said on an episode of her podcast. "It's now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers, driven by cowardly wokeness..." 

Gabbard additionally accused the party of "stoking anti-white racism," being contemptuous toward religion and police and driving the country closer to nuclear war. 

Gabbard was first elected to her native state of Hawaii's legislature in 2002 as a Democrat, at the age of 21. She has identified as a Democrat ever since, she said.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is accusing oil companies of price gouging. Politico reports:  

Gov. Gavin Newsom said Friday he would call a special session of the Legislature to consider a windfall profit tax on oil companies in response to the “outrageous and unconscionable” price of gas in California. 

The governor told reporters the session would start Dec. 5, far enough away for his administration and lawmakers to prepare for what would likely be a tough fight to impose a new tax even with a Democratic super-majority in the Legislature. It would also take place after the November election, sparing candidates from having to take a difficult vote in the heat of campaign season. 

The Carolina Panthers have parted ways with head coach Matt Rhule, Steve Wilks will step in as the interim head coach.

Russia launched a counterattack in Ukraine over the weekend after an attack on the Crimea bridge. NBC News has the story:  

Russia unleashed a barrage of deadly attacks on cities across Ukraine on Monday, hitting the heart of the country's capital, Kyiv, as part of a wave of strikes against civilians and infrastructure not seen since the earliest days of the war. 

From Lviv in the west to Kharkiv in the northeast, missiles tore through rush-hour traffic and into energy facilities, in apparent retaliation for a blast that damaged a key bridge to the annexed Crimean Peninsula over the weekend. 

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced in a televised address that his military had launched a "massive strike" on Ukraine's "energy, military command and communications facilities," telling his security council it was revenge for what he called Kyiv's long track record of "terrorist" actions, including the bridge blast.

Russia continues to fall back as Ukraine army presses on in their fight to take back territory occupied by Russian forces. FP reports:  

For weeks, Ukraine had been using U.S.- and European-provided multiple launch rocket systems and artillery to systematically cut the bridges in Russian-occupied Kherson and wear down its troops with short, probing attacks. Once the Russians were pinned down and cut off, Ukrainian forces went in for the kill. Between Sunday and Tuesday, Ukrainian forces recaptured at least 10 villages, pushing south toward Kherson, the heart of one of Russia’s so-called annexed areas. 

Hunter Biden could be charged with tax crimes and gun charges. CNBC has more:  

Federal agents believe they have enough evidence to support charging Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, with tax crimes and making a false statement in connection with the purchase of a gun, The Washington Post reported Thursday. 

It is now up to U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, to decide whether to prosecute Hunter on those charges, noted the Post, which cited people familiar with the investigation.

OPEC+ is cutting oil production which could lead to major spikes in oil prices. CNN has the story:  

On Wednesday morning, OPEC+ oil ministers' meeting in Vienna agreed to an even larger production cut than the White House had feared — 2 million barrels per day, beginning in November, according to a readout of the meeting released on Wednesday. The ministers said the cuts were necessary “in light of the uncertainty that surrounds the global economic and oil market outlooks.”

A dramatic cut in oil production could also help Russia, which is co-chair of OPEC+. Its economy is based on energy revenues, now critical to its war effort in Ukraine. Despite sanctions, Russia hasn't experienced a huge decline in production.
