  • ProNotes: ProNotes: PCMag's 2025 Best AVP apps

Marty talks about the recent list of best Apple Vision Pro apps of 2025  as suggested by PCMagazine

The Best Apple Vision Pro Apps for 2025

    https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-apple-vision-pro-apps

    What PCMag’s list covers

A spread across work/productivity, creativity & learning, entertainment, utilities, and games—with emphasis on apps that feel “native” in spatial computing.

    Work / Productivity

    • Things 3 (visionOS) — full task manager in floating windows; great with hand/eye input and multiple spaces.

    • Zoom / Microsoft 365 / Box — core “office” stack is available on Vision Pro for meetings and docs (PCMag’s earlier work-apps piece highlights these).

    Creativity & Learning

    • Night Sky — astronomy in 3D space; spatial sky maps are a natural fit.

    • Mindfulness (Apple) — breathing/reflect sessions as an ambient spatial experience; easy daily habit.

    Entertainment & Media

    • Apple TV, Disney+, Prime Video, Crunchyroll — strongest “big screen” experiences today (some are iPad ports that still work well in an immersive theater).

    • Note: Netflix still no app; use Safari as a fallback. YouTube native app is “on the roadmap.”

    Games

    • Blackbox (visionOS) — spatial puzzle design; Apple Design Award winner in Spatial Computing.

    • Synth Riders — rhythm/fitness staple now on Vision Pro; good demo of full-body interaction.

    • What the Golf? — playful physics/perspective gags translate well to big space.

    How to use the list

    • Prioritize native visionOS apps first—they support depth, passthrough, and richer windowing. Then fill gaps with iPad ports you already love.

    • Mix 2–3 apps per category to learn the UX: one work app (e.g., Things or Microsoft 365), one entertainment app (Apple TV/Disney+), one game (Synth Riders/Blackbox), and one wellness/learning app (Mindfulness/Night Sky).

    Quick takeaways

Start with one from each category to learn the platform’s strengths.

Prefer native visionOS versions for wow-factor and ergonomics.

Expect a hybrid workflow until missing streaming apps arrive.

  • ProNotes: More about the Samsung VR headset

Marty talks about the flood of stories on the potential release of the Samsung VR headset for sale in Korea in mid-October

ProNotes: Samsung's VR Headset Tipped To Cost Nearly $2k, Still Less Than The Apple Vision Prohttps://www.tomsguide.com/computing/vr-ar/samsungs-vr-headset-tipped-to-cost-nearly-usd2k-still-less-than-the-apple-vision-pro

    Quick hits

    Price (rumor): About $1.8k–$2.9k.

Timing (rumor): Fall launch in Korea first, small initial batch.

Target buyer: Early adopters and developers—not a mass-market play.

    How it stacks up

Versus Vision Pro: Cheaper at the low end, but still a premium device.

Versus Meta Quest: Much pricier than Quest 3/3S, so different audience.

What seems real vs. still unknown

More solid: Price range and Korea-first launch talk (multiple reports echo it).

Unknowns: Exact specs (displays, chip, battery), comfort/weight, passthrough quality, and whether it uses only hand/eye tracking or adds controllers.

Software: Likely Android-based with Google’s services, but we don’t know day-one apps.

Why Vision Pro owners should care

    • More competition, more apps: Another premium headset gives app makers a reason to build more mixed-reality apps, often across platforms. That can benefit Vision Pro too.

    • Price pressure: If Samsung lands closer to $1.8k–$2.0k, it sets a new “high-end but not Apple-priced” option. If it’s nearer $2.9k, Apple’s price gap stays big.

    • Use case reality check: Everyone still treats headsets as “session devices” (an hour or two), not all-day wear. That aligns with how most people use Vision Pro today.

    Fast watch-list

    • Comfort & passthrough: Does video passthrough look natural and feel low-latency?

    • Input: Eye/hand only, or optional controllers?

    • Battery: External pack or built-in? Real-world session length?

    • Apps at launch: Any must-have media or productivity that moves the needle?

    • Rollout: How quickly does it ship outside Korea? What do the dev tools look like?

  • ProNotes: The new precision fit patent for AVP

Marty talks about a new precision fit patent filed for Apple Vision Pro

    ProNotes

A Future Version of Apple's Vision Pro may provide users with a Precision Fit through Dynamic Adjustment Mechanisms

    https://www.patentlyapple.com/2025/08/a-future-version-of-apples-vision-pro-may-provide-users-with-a-precision-fit-through-dynamic-adjustment-mechanisms.html

The gist: Apple just had a patent spotlighted that’s all about a “precision fit” Vision Pro—hardware that dynamically adjusts (think buttons/levers/dials, possibly motor-assist) to match each person’s head and face.

What Apple’s aiming to fix: Current headsets (including today’s Vision Pro) rely on manual straps and swapping cushions—fine, but fiddly—and comfort can drift during longer sessions. Apple’s patent pushes toward auto-tuning hardware that gets you into the sweet spot faster and keeps you there.

    How it might work :

    - Dynamic supports: A headset frame that actively redistributes pressure so you don’t get forehead/cheek hot spots.

    - Smart light seal concepts: Related Apple filings describe air bladders/valves that balance pressure across face zones—tight where you need it, forgiving where you don’t.

    - Guided fit is the point: All of this is about landing your eyes in the optical “sweet spot” quickly and repeatably—clearer picture, less strain. (IPD alignment = sharper visuals is a known VR truth.)

    Why users should care:

Comfort goes up, face marks go down. Longer, easier sessions.

Faster hand-off: Family or teammates can throw it on and get tuned quickly—less strap fussing.

More consistent clarity: Staying centered improves text and UI readability and reduces fatigue.

Why this could advantage Apple vs. competitors:

    - Closed-loop fit (hardware + software): If Apple marries sensors, adjustable seals, and on-device guidance, you get a set-and-forget fit most rivals can’t match with manual strap/IPD dials.

    - Perceived quality without new screens: Better, repeatable alignment makes the whole system feel sharper and more premium—no panel change required.

    - On-boarding win: Less tinkering = more people actually enjoying the demo, which matters for adoption.

Where we are today: Vision Pro already uses swappable Light Seals/cushions and bands to improve fit; the patent path suggests Apple wants to automate more of that.

Caveat: Patents ≠ products. Timelines aren’t promised, but Apple’s recent filings draw a clear line: comfort and precision fit are priority areas for the next wave of Vision hardware.

Bottom line: If Apple ships even part of this self-tuning fit stack, Vision Pro could feel lighter, clearer, and friendlier to share—a practical edge that’s hard for manual-only headsets to match.

  • We’re Gurman-iacs

Eric, Dave, and Marty speak about the new VisionOS 26 developer beta, talk about a potential YouTube app, and review Gurman’s AVP/Meta comparison.

    NEWS this week

    Beta 8 came out today:

    https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos-release-notes/visionos-26-release-notes

    What’s new from beta 7 → beta 8

Release/build only: Beta 8 arrived Aug 25, 2025 as 23M5332a (beta 7 was Aug 18 as 23M5328a). Apple doesn’t list any additional new features, APIs, or headline-level changes for beta 8 beyond the build bump.

Tooling: The latest posted tools are still Xcode 26 beta 6 (17A5305f) from Aug 18; no newer Xcode dropped alongside beta 8.

    Practical take

    For users: Treat beta 8 as a stability/bug-fix pass—no Apple-documented user-facing additions over beta 7.

For developers: Re-run regressions on areas you touched for beta 7 (e.g., CompositorServices hover/immersion behavior, ARKit Accessory Tracking, RealityKit popover/presentation components, RemoteImmersiveSpace stability, StoreKit’s new promo-offer APIs). Those were the substantive changes in beta 7 and remain the focus with beta 8.

  • ProNotes: Gurman’s evaluation of AVP and Meta

Marty speaks about a recent post by Gurman reflecting on the the success of Vision Pro and the challenge of Meta glasses

Marc Gurman of Bloomberg in his Power On column voices his opinion on Vision Pro (Reddit repost)

    https://www.reddit.com/r/augmentedreality/comments/1mz4zp2/mark_gurman_qa_on_apples_smart_glasses_and_the/

    Apple smart glasses—will they hit?

    • Meta’s wins today = design, audio, and on-face cameras; Apple could outdo at least audio + cameras given AirPods/iPhone investments.
    • Apple’s industrial design should be “nice enough” to wear, even if not as fashion-forward as Ray-Ban/Oakley collabs.
    • Killer edge: deep iPhone integration (which Apple doesn’t allow Meta to match).
    • Bottom line: features likely to trounce Meta’s—price becomes the swing factor.

    Is Vision Pro a success?

    • Publicly, Apple could claim “yes” (breakthrough tech; best-in-class immersive video playback).
    • Privately, top leaders would likely say “no”: soft sales, weak usage momentum, and a thin third-party app/content story.
    • Verdict from the Q&A: commercial failure so far—the biggest flop of the Tim Cook era.

    Why this still matters

    • If the work seeds successful AR glasses—or a cheaper, lighter “Vision” that takes off—the investment may pay off. Otherwise, it’s a decade-long, multi-billion-dollar detour.

    What to watch next

    • Pricing strategy for Apple glasses
    • iPhone-level integration features that Meta can’t replicate
    • Signs of a lighter/cheaper Vision device and a real third-party content surge

    Price & availability
Target price: Vivo execs suggest ≈ ¥10,000 ~$1,400; significantly under Vision Pro’s $3,499. But pricing is not final and availability is TBD.Compare: Vivo Vision vs. Apple Vision Pro
    Weight: ~398 g vs. AVP’s ~600–650 g—comfort could be a win for Vivo.
Compute: XR2+ Gen 2 Android vs. Apple M-series visionOS — Apple likely leads raw performance and ecosystem today.
Display claims: Vivo’s per-eye resolution is competitive; refresh rate/brightness not clearly stated.
Ecosystem: AVP has a year-plus head start and tighter integrations; Vivo’s app store/content story is unclear.

  • ProNotes: What’s new in visionOS 26 developer beta 7

Marty discusses changes and additions in the newly released mVisionOS26 developer beta 7

    Today’s Pronote:

visionOS 26 Beta 7 Release Notes

    https://developer.apple.com/documentation/visionos-release-notes/visionos-26-release-notes

If you were hoping for shiny new features… this one’s about polish, not pop.

For Vision Pro users, beta 7 doesn’t add anything you’ll immediately notice. Your day-to-day feels like beta 6. The same small quirks are still listed in the notes— occasional rough edges with Mac Virtual Display, and a few Safari oddities. Bottom line: if you’re just looking to use the headset, this build is about stability, not new toys.

No Jupiter environment and No curved panoramic Virtual displays

For developers, there is one new callout: Apple flags a Memory Tools known issue where leak detectors can falsely report leaks in some Swift/Objective-C bridged cases. Translation: if your leak graph suddenly lights up after updating, take a breath—it might be the tools, not your app. Otherwise, the dev sections largely mirror beta 6—ARKIt, Metal, RemoteImmersiveSpace, StoreKit/SwiftUI—steady as she goes.

    • Users: install if you want polish; don’t expect features.
    • Devs: keep testing, but treat new “leaks” with suspicion and focus on regression passes.

What’s new for Vision Pro users

    • No newly announced features or UI changes.
    • Experience should feel the same as beta 6.
    • A few small quirks still listed (e.g., occasional Mac Virtual Display edge artifacts; some Safari behavior).

Practical tip: If you were happy on beta 6, beta 7 is safe for polish; don’t install just to chase features.

    What’s new for developers

    • Memory Tools: Possible false leak positives after updating—validate before refactoring.
    • Most framework notes (ARKit, Metal, RemoteImmersiveSpace, StoreKit/SwiftUI) are effectively unchanged from beta 6.
    • Good week for regression testing and performance measurements rather than API exploration.

Apple's Vision Pro Is Suffering From a Lack of Immersive Video

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newsletters/2025-08-17/why-doesn-t-the-vision-pro-have-more-immersive-video-apple-is-slow-rolling-it-mefmwpb1

    ·   Core problem: Vision Pro remains niche due to the $3,499 price and a lack of must‑have features; visionOS 26 polish (e.g., widgets) hasn’t shifted perception.

    ·   Immersive video = killer app… but scarce: Apple has slow‑rolled releases—about 27 total—so owners often feel there’s little to watch.

    ·   Concrete gaps: still promoting NBA All‑Star 2024 while no 2025 immersive version exists months later; concerts are limited (Metallica, Bono; a short Weeknd clip).

    ·   Series are thin: Wild Life (4 eps), Elevated (1), Boundless (2), Adventure (5), Prehistoric Planet (2), Concert for One (1).

    ·   3D ≠ truly immersive: 3D Disney/Harry Potter/James Bond titles don’t deliver the all‑around‑you feel of Apple’s immersive videos.

    ·   Why the drip‑feed: Apple shot a lot of immersive content, but production is expensive and resource‑intensive; with slow sales, Apple is metering releases to avoid draining the reserve.

    ·   Catch‑22: Immersive video is what sells the headset, yet low sales make a big content push hard to justify—leading to a standstill.

    ·   Retail angle: Apple leans on immersive video in store demos because it’s the strongest “wow” moment.

    ·   Sales reality: Estimates suggest well under 1M U.S. units since launch, weakening the case for heavy near‑term spend on programming.

    ·   Roadmap tension: A faster‑chip refresh could land this year (incremental), while a cheaper, lighter model isn’t expected until 2027—risking today’s content feeling dated by the time mass adoption arrives.

    ·   Third‑party pipeline: Apple released a Mac app for immersive production and partnered with Blackmagic; a racing doc is due next month—but partners likely won’t bridge the gap if Apple doesn’t go big.

    ·   Bottom line: Vision Pro’s best trick is immersive video, but until Apple expands the library, it remains an impressive demo more than a reason to buy.

Apple’s New Vision Pro Eye‑Monitoring Patent – What It Means for Everyday Users

    What the patent says:

Apple is working on a future Vision Pro that can watch your eyes while you’re wearing it.

The headset will use tiny cameras or sensors inside the glasses to track how long and where you look at things (e.g., “glance duration,” “focus distance”).

It also plans to automatically adjust the display brightness, color temperature, and other visual settings based on your eye comfort.

How it works in plain English:

While you’re looking around a virtual world, the headset silently notes if you squint, blink often, or stare too long at bright spots.

If it detects signs of eye strain, it will dim the screen, shift colors to cooler tones, or give subtle prompts (like “Take a break”) without interrupting your experience.

    Why this matters for users:

Less eye fatigue – The headset adapts to keep your eyes from getting tired after long sessions.

Personalized comfort – Settings that fit how you naturally look at things, so the visuals feel more natural and less “artificial.”

Health‑aware design – Apple is putting eye health into the core of its VR hardware, not just adding a cool feature.
