This is another busy and exciting week at VAPA with our distrixt0wide earthquake drill on Thursday, Homecoming Game and parade on Friday, and Homecoming Dance on Saturday.

The Parade is subject to approval by the city and the district. We will notify everyone through our website, social media, and telephone ASAP regarding approval of the parade. Should all go as planned, the parade will start on Legacy Lane and continue around the back of the new Sports Complex, to the edge of the football field, and end at the Welcome Center. Registration begins at 5 pm and the parade will start at 6 pm and end before the varsity football game. More information for parade audience or how to participate in the parade is available at the VAPA office at 323-357-7531.

With the 2nd grading period just ending and so many activities this week, it is an excellent time for parents and guardians to talk with their students about progress in their classes. Our goal is every student passes their classes with a C or better, but realizing better is what is needed for students to be competitive in college applications. Our Student-Led Parent Conferences will be on October 24 beginning at 5 pm.

Oct. 6, 2019

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Monday is a LATE-START DAY. Period 1 starts promptly at nine-thirty am. Also, there is no school on Wednesday this week.

VAPA’s PICTURE DAY is this Tuesday, October 8. Please call the office for info on purchasing school pictures. These are the pictures that will go into the yearbook.

Congratulations to all of our Fall sports teams for continuing their great seasons! We are looking forward to another week of competition including our next home football games against Garfield this Friday following a sweep last Friday with both of our teams defeating South Gate HS. Our Homecoming Game is against Bell HS on Friday, October 18. Don’t miss it!

This is College Awareness Month with many activities planned including our College Trip this Thursday and many activities next week for COLLEGE WEEK including application, financial aid, and personal essay workshops and the PSAT next week on Wednesday for all 9th and 10th graders.

Thank you to all of our teachers, staff, and community who have supported our outreach and recruitment efforts over the last month. Our Performance Ambassadors presented at Enrollment Fairs and performed at several schools for literally thousands of 8th graders and their families including our Open House yesterday. The Zone of Choice Application Window opened October 1 and many students and families are applying to schools this week for the 2020-21 school year. Please encourage any families you know with 8th graders to consider our wonderful school as one of their top choices! We continue to have space for all grades, but will be at capacity soon.

A reminder, the grading window for the second grading period closes Friday. This is a good time for students to check with their teachers regarding their progress and compete any missed work or exams.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Monday is a late-start day. Hola Comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios! El lunes es un día de inicio tardío. 

We are excited about all the good things happening at VAPA. Don’t miss our annual Latino Heritage Celebration concert this Thursday, September 26, beginning with a pre-concert parent session at 6pm and music starting at 6:30 pm! See you at 6!

As we get closer to the October 1st opening of the Zone of Choice selection window, we are hoping are whole school community will rally behind our efforts to recruit and retain the best students at VAPA! If you know of an 8th grader who is a visual or performing artist, or who wants to experience the arts in a highly academic and supportive environment, please encourage them to select Legacy VAPA as their first choice!

This week we will have a special arts and crafts workshop for our parents on Wednesday at 9 am in the Legacy Parent Center and we encourage all of our student’s parents to contact us for support in registering to use the LAUSD Parent Portal.

This has been another fantastic week for VAPA. All of our ninth graders participated in the 3-day ACE Freshman Experience by Educare, we celebrated our honors and high honors students Thursday night, and we received the news that for a second time two of our students are scholarship winners and finalists for the Foundation for New American Musicals’ 2019 Show Search Competition. Congratulations to Nathalie Moreno and Clarissa Gaeta.

 Moving forward, we have another busy week ahead with A-G Parent Meetings for each grade and the start of our 8th grade articulation and recruitment drive. Please join us for the following parent meetings in the MPR at 5 pm: 9th grade parents on Monday, 10th and 11th Grade Parents on Tuesday, and 12th Grade Parents on Wednesday. Our enrollment and recruitment drive for 2020-21 has begun and will continue through October. Please share the good news about VAPA with any families and parents of current 8th graders you may know. The more students we can enroll, the more teachers we can bring to VAPA and the more programs we can offer our students.

 Lastly, please note that this Friday is our annual Norm Day which is critical to funding and staffing. We need the support of our entire school community to encourage all of our students to go to school every day and on time.

Special Announcement

Sept. 8, 2019

Hello New Legacy VAPA Families!  This is Dr. Trimis, principal of Legacy VAPA, with a special announcement.

Hola familias de New Legacy VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis, director de Legacy VAPA, con un anuncio especial.

We will be holding our annual ACE Program for our all VAPA ninth graders next week on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, September 9th, 10th, and 11th. The program is critical for the success of our ninth graders and our expectation is all of the ninth grade VAPA students will participate. While most of the ninth grade teachers are facilitating the program with the Educare Foundation, this where instruction will be taking for the three days, not on the Legacy campus. All ninth grade students must be at school by 8 am on Monday and will return to campus around 3:30 pm. ALL STUDENTS WERE GIVEN TRIP SLIPS which must be returned signed on Monday morning. The program is fantastic and some have called it life-changing. There will be a parent and family celebration at the conclusion of the program on Wednesday, September 11, at 4 pm in the Legacy MPR. I hope you can join us.

 We will plan on seeing all of our ninth graders at school on Monday with signed trip slips if they have not returned them previously, and, hopefully, parents and families on Wednesday at 4 pm!

Sept. 1, 2019

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Monday is a school holiday as we celebrate Labor Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday with a regular day. Students must be in class before 8:30 am. ¡Hola Comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios! El lunes es feriado escolar mientras celebramos el Día del Trabajo. Las clases se reanudarán el martes con un día normal. Los estudiantes deben estar en clase antes de las ocho y media de la mañana. 

This is National School Success Month and Suicide Prevention Month.

This Thursday we will hold this year’s Back to School Night Event at Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School. We will have a Senior Meeting Parent at 4 pm and a general welcome for all parents at 5 pm, both in the MPR, followed by visits to teacher’s classrooms. Please join us to find out about what our plans are inside and outside of the classroom this year! You will also have the opportunity to meet our staff and submit critically needed paperwork to us. The evening will conclude at 7 pm.

Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is a time to honor and remember children and families affected by these devastating diseases and rally support to give kids with cancer better outcomes. http://childrenscancer.org

Latino Heritage Month celebrates the rich cultural heritage of Latino Americans and the many contributions they have and continue to make to American culture. The month-long celebration from September 15 - October 15 was designated by presidential proclamation (36 United States Code 126).

Library Card Sign Up Month serves as a reminder to ensure all children have library cards. Information and materials available from American Library Association.www.ala.org

National Preparedness Month reminds us that we all must take action to prepare for emergencies that could affect us where we live, work, and also where we visit. https://www.ready.gov/september

National School Success Month is a time to encourage students and teachers to continue to reach for the stars.

Suicide Prevention Month is a time for mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members to unite and promote suicide prevention awareness. https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org

I will be sending out a phone call most weeks at this time. The weekly message may also be found on our website at www.vapalegacy.com  Please note that on Late-Start Mondays, which will be scheduled for most of the year, students must be in their 1st Period class before 9:30 am. There is no school on Friday for Admissions day and on September 2 for Labor Day.

August is Children’s Eye, Health, and Safety Month, National Immunization Awareness Month, and National Truancy Prevention Month

Congratulations on a successful opening week! Lots is going on at VAPA this week with an all-periods day on Tuesday, Aloha Assembly in the Gym on Wednesday, and classes moving full steam ahead with engaging instructional activities in every classroom! Special Summer Bridge Announcement 

Hello New Legacy VAPA Families!  This is Dr. Trimis, principal of Legacy VAPA, with a special announcement.

We will be holding our Summer Bridge to High School Program for our incoming ninth graders this summer from June 19 to July 24, from 8:30-2 pm. Please complete the form you received in the mail and return it with your child on June 19. You may also use the form attached or found on our website at www.vapalegacy.com and social media platforms which are also linked there.

 We have a fantastic summer planned with special trips and events. See you on the 19th! Looking forward, ewe have our Freshman Orientation on August 15 and the first day of school is August 20. And don’t miss our Opening Home Football Game and Freshmen Tailgate on August 23!

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. This Monday there is no school.

We have only 2 weeks of school until the last day of instruction this year, senior finals have already been given and finals for everyone else start Friday.

May 31, June 3, 4, and 5, we are on a finals schedule. School starts at 8:30 every day and ends at 1:35 pm or 2:10 pm on the four days of finals. Please see our website for more information and call the office as needed.

Congratulations to all students involved in our Spring Fest event this year.

Finally, please mark your calendars for the remaining events this year: May 29 is our Extra-Mile Awards at 2:15 pm and the run-through/honors audition for senior recital at 3:30 pm. May 30 is our Senior Awards Gala, June 3 is our Senior Recital, June 5 is our Senior Breakfast and Pre-Graduation Activities, June 6 is Graduation, June 7 is the last day of instruction.

VAPA is hosting several programs this summer including the following:

June 8 Legacy Sports Day; June 12-17 Arts Intensives for Dance, Showchoir, Band, and Theatre; June 19 to July 24 Summer School, Escalante Math, and Summer Bridge plus Arts Classes for all 9th graders, and Freshman Orientation on August 17.

 Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios. Estamos en un horario regular todos los días hasta la semana del examen final.

We have only 3 weeks of school until the last day of instruction this year.

It is crunch time for academic catching up, with senior finals coming up and 9th-11th grade finals shortly after that. It is critical that all students meet with their teachers check on where they stand in terms of their final grade, missing work, what to study for exams, and any other information they need to ensure they are doing all they can to get a C or better in every class.

 Congratulations to all students involved in our Spring Fest event thus far. Our Mariachi Festival Thursday was a success and though the Film Fest had to be cancelled because of a community power outage, we will reschedule the event either as a live or virtual film festival. Please come out and support our dance program this Thursday and Friday at 6:30 pm for the final two nights of Spring Fest.

 Also this week is our photo session for all performing groups on Monday and auditions for our vocal groups including show choir, jazz choir, a cappella singers, and glee club in the Music Room on Tuesday at 3:30pm.

 Finally, please mark your calendars for the remaining events this year: May 29 is our Extra-Mile Awards at 2:15 pm and the run-through/honors audition for senior recital at 3:30 pm. May 30 is our Senior Awards and Honors Recital Gala, Finals are May 31- June 5, June 3 is our Senior Recital, June 5 is our Senior Breakfast, Senior Trip, Graduation Practice, Cap and Gown Distribution, Graduation Ticket Distribution, and Cap Decorating Event, June 6 is Graduation, June 7 is the last day of instruction, and June 8 is our All Legacy Sports Day at 9 am.
