Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis. This Monday will be a late start day with students arriving at 10 am. Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis. Este lunes será un día de inicio tardío con los estudiantes que llegan a las diez de la mañana.

 We have had a busy week at Legacy and at VAPA. Congratulations to our Cheer team who did a great job at USA Nationals on Friday. We were one of only a few LAUSD school teams competing! A big thank you to Coach Brenda, Coach Adolfo, families and supporters. Cheer will now move in to CIF City Section competition. Congratulations to our Legacy Boys Soccer Team who played in the CIF City Championships on Saturday at Valley College. In the end, we were 2nd in the City falling short by one point. Thank you to Coach Magana, families, and supporters. Congratulations to our Girls Basketball Game doing a great job in the CIF Open Division Consolation Finals at Hamilton High School last Wednesday. A big thank you to Coach Estrada, families, and supporters. Also congratulations to all of our Spring Sports Teams who have started their seasons and are off to a great start including Boys Tennis and Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, Track and Field, and Swim Team who had their first meet on Wednesday. Congratulations to our VAPA Show Choir who competed for the first at Temecula Valley High School on Friday, earning 2nd Place in the Intermediate Division.

 We will continue to be busy at VAPA this week with our WASC Accreditation visit on March 3-5 and upcoming competitions for color guard, short flags, and dance team, Eastside Arts Festival in March, our Spring Musical April 3-6, and our 4-Day Spring Fest event beginning Friday, May 10.

We are now moving quickly towards our high stakes testing season with Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments and Summative Exams coming soon, Advanced Placement tests in May, and our first school-based SAT for all juniors. It is also critical for our 11th Graders to participate in the 4 Saturday math review sessions scheduled in March.

I encourage all of our students to go to school every day, stay on top of all of their classwork and studying including practice for performances and stay healthy.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. 

Congratulations to all of our scholar-athletes who are in final play-offs for Winter sports including basketball and soccer, who already competing in our Spring sports including swim team, softball, baseball, volleyball, tennis, golf, cheer, and track and field. We wish the best of luck to boys soccer and girls basketball teams who have play-off games this week. Congratulations also to our scholar-artists who have started their competition and festival season including color guard, show choir, band, mariachi ensemble, jazz choir, and dance team. Color Guard went to their 1st competition of the season last Saturday and show choir has the first competition of the season this Friday.

Please note our Black History Month celebration has been moved to February 27th.

We are now accepting applications through the Zone of Choice and Open Enrollment process for 2019-20. Please spread the word.

We have several important events coming soon including our WASC Accreditation Visit March 3-5, budget development, master schedule and staffing for next school year is underway, and our Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments and school-based SAT and AP Exams are all scheduled for April and May.

Lastly, mark your calendars for our Spring Musical April 3-6 and 4-Day Spring Fest starting May 10 which will include Film Fest and Mariachi Fest this year.

VAPA Updates

Feb. 10, 2019

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Monday is a regular day.

Congratulations to all of our students recognized last Thursday in both the Extra Mile Awards Ceremony and the Honor Roll Assembly.  Congratulations also to the new students just inducted into VAPA’s chapter of the International Thespian Society and both the Legacy Color Guard and Marching Band who had performances yesterday

Please note that all parents should have received a letter from the school on Friday afternoon. If you have any questions, after reading the letter, please call us at the office. Parents and students should be aware that LAUSD has a social media policy for students and staff. Social media is a powerful tool that can be used effectively to tell all the good news about our school but that can also be damaging to the school, the district, and, most importantly, to individual students and staff members, if not used carefully. In a time of low enrollment for our district, when staff is getting displaced and programs cut at several different schools, misinformation spread through social media may also be damaging to enrollment. As always, we need to know about incidents, anything that is factual, that must be investigated, so I encourage to use our text a tip program. You may text urgent tips to 323-596-7531.

Congratulations to our Winter Sport Teams, many who are in play-offs. Come out and support boys soccer this Monday at 3 pm and girls soccer on Tuesday at 3 pm, both at Legacy. Also support girls basketball, their next playoff game is February 13, but where they will play has not been announced. Also support our Spring teams who have started their seasons.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis. This Monday will be a late start day with students arriving at 10 am. Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis. Este lunes será un día de inicio tardío con los estudiantes que llegan a las diez de la mañana.

 Congratulations to our Winter Sports Teams who have all completed their regular seasons now as the post-season games begin. Come out and support Boys Basketball as they take on West Adams Prep in their first round play-off game at Legacy on Wednesday, February 6, at 7 pm. Also be sure to see our Girls Basketball Team play Granada Hills Charter High School on Saturday, February 9, at Granada at 7 pm.

 Congratulations to our Academic Decathlon Team continuing their 3rd season last night with the Super Quiz, their last event. Any students interested in joining next year’s team should see Coach Avalos this week.

Congratulations to Winter Sports teams who are having great seasons and after this week will be heading in to Play-Offs. This week you will have the opportunity to attend a home game to support our Legacy teams every day except Friday.

We have several activities and events coming up as we focus on classroom instruction, our upcoming accreditation visit by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, state assessments, and our school-based SAT. It is critical that our entire school community stay focused, students, families, teachers, and staff, so we meet or exceed our goals including our A-G pass rate and 100% graduation and attendance.

Congratulations and good luck to our VAPA Academic Decathlon Team who are are in the midst of the annual competition with their essay completed this past week, and the all-day exams, speech, interview, and super quiz all taking place this week. Thank you to Coach Avalos and families and friends who are supporting the team.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Tuesday, January 22, is a regular day. Students should report to school by 8:20 am.

Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios. El martes, veintidós de enero, es un día regular. Los estudiantes deben presentarse en la escuela a las ocho y veinte de la mañana.

Please note that LAUSD schools including VAPA are open this week and on regular schedules. At this time all after-school/Beyond-the-Bell/Educare activities are operating as scheduled but all sports practices and games are not being played, as per CIF and LAUSD policy, until further notice.

However, tomorrow we will have required physical activity for all students during Period 1. Students should  be prepared to dress for PE, sports activities, running/walking, or dance.

 We are looking forward to a fantastic Spring Semester with some amazing classroom instruction taking place, many events and programs, and lots to look forward to.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday we are on special schedules. Students must be at school by 8:20 am but get out of school at different times each day, 2:15 on Monday and Tuesday and 1:40 on Friday.

Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios. Lunes, martes, miércoles y viernes tenemos horarios especiales. Los estudiantes deben estar en la escuela a las ocho y veinte de la mañana pero salir de la escuela a diferentes horas cada día, dos quince el lunes y martes y una cuarenta el viernes.

This is the last week of school before Winter Break and the last weekly update of 2018. Please note teachers will submit grades on Thursday and I encourage all of our students to finish strong, don’t be absent this week, complete all finals the best they can, and complete any missing work.

 Congratulations to our dancers who performed in Winter Fest last Friday to a packed crowd and thank you to Mr. Sanna-Pickett, Manny Hernandez, Mr. Adolfo and Mr. Delgado for all their work. Congratulations also to our musicians who performed in WinterFest last week and all of the marching band, color guard, short flags, and cheer, the Legacy Tiger Marching Band and Auxiliaries, who performed in the Huntington Park Parade and the South Gate parades this weekend.

Please continue to support our Winter Sports teams including boys and girls soccer and boys and girls basketball. All students who are interested in okay Spring Sports should see Athletic Director Sanchez this week.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis. This Monday will be a late start day with students arriving at 10 am. Hola Comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis. Este lunes será un día de inicio tardío con los estudiantes que llegan a las diez de la mañana.

 As of today we only have 2 weeks of school left before Winter Break and less than 1 week until finals which begin on Friday. This is an excellent time for all students to be studying for finals and getting caught up on any missed work. This is also an important time for all students to meet with their teachers so they have a clear understanding of what they need to do to earn at least a C in every class.

As we come to the end of the semester, it is also important for students to meet school expectations regarding coming to school every day, on-time, and prepared, and always keeping their school ID with them and utilizing our hall pass system if leaving the classroom is necessary.  Please support our Winter Sports teams which include girls and boys basketball and girls and boys soccer.

Please support our students in their performances this week, the Winter Fest Dance program on Friday at 6:30 pm, and see the band in the Huntington Park parade on Saturday at 6 and the South Gate parade on Sunday at 12 noon. The last day of the Fall semester is December 14.
