This is Latino Heritage Month and Suicide Prevention Month. This week we will have a special meeting for parents of seniors on Tuesday at 5 pm in the MPR to discuss graduation and college entrance requirements. We will have an Honor Roll Celebration this Thursday at 6 pm and parents will receive invitations if they have not received them, already
Congratulations to our Legacy Football Team as well as our Girls Tennis and Girls Volleyball Teams who all won their first Eastern League games in the history of Legacy Athletics this week. The upset Friday night against Division 2 CIF City Champions, Huntington Park High School, was incredible. For those of us that are HP alumni or former teachers and staff, we wish HP the best of luck this season as we celebrate with our Legacy family! We are super proud of our teams which include several VAPA students!
We are now in the Zone of Choice and Open Enrollment Recruitment season. Congrats to our VAPA Performance Ambassadors performed at the Orchard Academies last Friday and have several other stops on this year’s Recruitment Tour. If you know of any high school students who are at other high schools that would like to become VAPA students immediately, please have their parent call our office before Friday so we may begin the enrollment process with them. If you know of any families of 8th grade students, especially those that live in the South Gate and Bell area, please refer them to us so we can let them know all we have to offer. We will be giving school tours every Wednesday and Friday for the next 2 months. It’s important to note that VAPA has one of the highest percentages of Gifted and Talented students when compared to other LAUSD schools at 17.5%. The goal for all LAUSD schools is to identify at least 6% of their students as gifted and talented.
Our Latino Heritage Concert on Thursday, September 27 and our next home football game is the Homecoming Game on September 28. The Homecoming Dance will be on Saturday, September 29. Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. There is no school on Monday, September 10th. Tuesday is a regular day. Hola comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios. No hay escuela el lunes, 10 de septiembre. El martes es un día normal.
As we move forward in the year, it becomes even more important for students to stay on track in every class. A major goal for VAPA is to have every student pass every class with a C or better to they are college prepared and can graduate on time. To support our efforts in this area, we will hold A-G/College Prepared meetings for the parents of our students in each grade level. The meetings will be at 5 pm in the VAPA Library on specified days. Please join us for these meetings so all of our students and their parents or guardians have a crystal clear understanding about what is expected. This week we will meet with 9th Grade on Tuesday, 10th Grade on Wednesday, and 11th Grade on Thursday. Next week, we will meet with 12th Grade on Tuesday, September 18.
Looking forward, we will have an Honor Roll Celebration on Thursday, September 20, and our Latino Heritage Concert on Thursday, September 27. Our next two home football games are this Friday (September 14) and September 28 which is also our Homecoming Game.

El martes es un día normal.Please plan to join us for Back to School Night this Thursday, September 6. We will start with a required meeting for parents of seniors at 4:30 pm with class visits beginning at 5 pm. There will be a required parent meeting for advanced performing groups in the M-Building performing arts classrooms at 7 pm.
We are under-enrolled. If you know of any high school students who are at other high schools that would like to become VAPA students immediately, please have their parent call our office before Friday so we may begin the enrollment process with them.

On Monday, all ninth grade students must be at school by 8:30 am. All other students will have a late-start day arriving at 10 am.
There continues to be a lot going on at VAPA this week. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday all of our ninth graders will be at the Educare ACE field trip and event from 8:30 to 4 pm with a celebration at 5 pm on Wednesday in the Library. On Thursday, we will have our 3rd Annual Aloha Assembly at 2 pm. Please note September 1st and 4th are school holidays. This is a good time for all students to meet with their teachers to be sure they understand course expectations for every class. Our school goals include improving our A-G course pass rate with a C or better leading to an increased graduation rate and more students prepared for college. We have 5 more home football games at Legacy this year. While our players and are expected to follow and agree to the California Interscholastic Federation High School Code of Conduct for Interscholastic Student-Athletes
including trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship, there are also guidelines for spectators, both students and adults. While all of the stadium rules will be posted at the ticket booth, here are a few behaviors that are not allowed.
Profanity or other offensive language, whether spoken or appearing on apparel
Entering the playing field or court at any time
Fighting or other threatening behavior
Violation of state, school, district, or local laws
Failure to comply may subject you to ejection from the game. In extreme cases, the school police officers who supervise every game also make arrests. Fans are encouraged to report inappropriate behavior to team/venue personnel. We welcome your help in our efforts to provide an enjoyable experience for all guests. Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements. Monday is a late-start day with students expected to be at school at 10 am. Supervision for students will be available from 8:30-10 am in the covered eating area by the VAPA cafeteria.

We had a great first week with excellent attendance, most students were on-time, and our enrollment is strong. Let’s keep it up this week. There is a lot going on at VAPA this week. On Wednesday we will have our first Community and Business Partners Board Meeting at 5 pm in the Library, on Friday we will have an emergency drill in the morning, Link Crew Freshmen Tailgate Event at 5 pm, and our first home game with JV at 4 pm and varsity at 7 pm. On Saturday we will have our first Parent Engagement Kick-Off Event from 10 am to 2 pm. We several exciting sessions planned including college workshops and we will share the many great ways our parents can get involved at VAPA. Please join us.
This is a reminder that all of our 9th graders are participating in an exciting off-campus event next week and this week need to return 2 signed forms, a trip slip and an Educare agreement form.
Please note that this week is Spirit Week with Monday being Disney Day and Tuesday Twins Day.
I hope you will join us for our opening Home Football Game on Friday and our Parent Engagement Kick-Off Event on Saturday.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with my first weekly announcement and podcast of the new year. Tuesday is the first day of instruction and is a regular day starting at 8:20 am and ending at 3:20 pm.
Hola comunidad VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con mi primer anuncio semanal y podcast del año nuevo. El martes es el primer día de instrucción y es un día regular que comienza a las ocho y media y termina a las tres y veinte.
2018-19 is the seventh year of VAPA’s history as we continue to grow and develop, adding new programs and improving all we do on multiple fronts. I am excited to welcome our new students and their families and our new faculty and staff as you join us on our journey.
This is a year of great change as we celebrate our theme all year, VAPA VII: Making a Difference, the 1960’s through today. Our big, audacious goals this year are 96% or better on-time attendance, student engagement in every class, and all students passing their classes with a C or better leading to 96% or better graduation rate. We are a Leader in Me School with student and staff lighthouse teams guiding us under our 4 pillars: create-inspire-unify-educate. You will see the pillars and our goals, as well as our theme, reflected in classroom instruction, school programs, and events.
Please note a big change this year. We will no longer have early release Tuesdays each week, but will have 14 late-start Mondays spaced throughout the year. The first two late-start Mondays are August 20 and August 27. On these late-start days, students will arrive to school at 10 am. However, for any students who wish to do homework or study on these days, we will have supervision on campus from 8:30 to 10 am.
One other big change is the elimination of homeroom. The Breakfast in the Classroom program and the morning announcements will take place at the end of Period 1 or Period 4 which will typically start each day at 8:30 sharp. Please note, any students who arrive late to school will be missing instruction and their grades could be negatively impacted.
I hope you will join us for our opening Home Football Game on August 24 and upcoming school events including our Parent Engagement Kick-Off Event on August 25 and Back-to-School Night on September 6. For students, I hope you will join us for our first Welcome and Aloha Dance on Saturday, August 18 at 6 pm.

Hello all! This is Dr. Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School. If you are receiving this message, you are a current or recent graduate of VAPA. in the next month, the graduates should be exited from the phone dialing system. This is just a quick reminder of upcoming events this summer. on August 12, you will begin receiving weekly phone calls from us with weekly announcements.
Our summer office hours are 8 am to 4 pm.
On July 30-August 1 we will have Show Choir Camp at VAPA from 8:30 to 4 pm. Any students who would like to audition for Show Choir may join us at 8:30 on July 30 in the Music Room.
Band Camp is August 6 through August 10 from 9 am to 12 noon in the Music Room. Any students who play an instrument are encouraged to join band and meet in the Music Room at 9 am on August 6.
Freshman Orientation is August 7 from 8 am to 2 pm in the MPR. Registration Days for 10th through 12th Graders are as follows: 10th grade at 8 am on August 8, 11th Grade at 10 am on August 8, and 12th Grade at 8 am on August 9th.
August 13 is a Pupil-Free Day, a meeting day for teachers and staff, and the First Day of Instruction is Tuesday, August 14, when Period 1 will begin at 8:30 am.
A few quick reminders about our new schedule this year. School will start at 8:30 AM with Period 1 or 4 on a Block Schedule. There is no longer a separate Homeroom class. Most days will end at 3:20. There is no early-release Tuesday, however, there will be 14 LATE-START Mondays. On these days, Period 1 will start at 10 am. We will be providing a tutoring program every Monday from 7 am until Period 1 begins, including Late=Start Mondays.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! Hola comunidad VAPA! ¡Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!
Hard to believe that this will be my last weekly call of the year as we are in the midst of closing out this year, preparing for Graduation and other final events, and plan for next year. This has been a fantastic year for VAPA and we are excited about all we have planned for the future.
A big thank you to our senior sponsor, Ms. Alvarez, and our counselors, teachers, and staff for all they did this year for our students.
A few reminders:
We are on a finals schedule the next two days and both Wednesday and Thursday are minimum days. Students are dismissed after Period 7 but may stay for lunch at 12:45 pm. Senior Activities this week: Monday-Cap Decorating and Movie Night at 3:30 pm, Tuesday-Senior Trip to Mt. St. Mary’s University at 8:30 am, Wednesday-Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice at 7:30 am, and Thursday-Graduation at 6 pm at the South Gate Municipal Auditorium. The last day of instruction is Thursday and Friday is a Teacher Planning Day.
Summer School starts June 18 and the first day of instruction for the new year is August 14, 2018.
A reminder to students to be aware of auditions, scholarships, contests, internships, summer camps, and other opportunities by listening to PA announcements, seeing fliers on our bulletin boards, and checking our website and social media platforms such as Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook which are linked on the website at www.vapalegacy.com

Congratulations to all of our dancers who were featured on our last 2018 Spring Fest event this past Friday. A big thank you to Mr. Adolfo who recorded and live streamed the event to VAPA Television and Mr. Delgado and his tech crew for lights, sound, and house support. And, lastly a big thank you to director, Mr. Sanna-Pickett, Assistant Director, Emmanel Hernandez, families, and supporters.
A reminder to stay on top of all your classwork and assignments. Finals will be here soon and we want all of our students to pass all their classes with a C or better.
A reminder of our upcoming events the last few weeks of school. The Extra-Mile Awards will be Tuesday at 2:15 pm, Senior Recital and Awards Gala is Wednesday at 6 pm, Grad Night on June 2, Senior Trip is June 5, Senior Breakfast and Graduation Practice is on June 6, and Graduation is on June 7. The last day of instruction is June 7 and both June 6th and 7th are minimum days.
I will have more information about summer and Fall next week which will be your last weekly phone call of this school year.
