New Music ensemble Nat 28 will present a concert for Chamber Music Pittsburgh’s Pittsburgh Performs series working with Conflict Kitchen to provide cuisine that complements  the music played. Flutist and founder Zoe Sorrell and  guitarist and music librarian Devin Sherman  joined PCM Executive Director Kristin Linfante to fill us in on the plan for the West End Tuesday April 4 7pm concert at the James Gallery

WQED documentarian extraordinaire Rick Sebak shares his thoughts on the 6 Nebby programs he will produce following a successful kickstarter campaign, the #rickstarter plan to raise $113,000 – the  money for the production costs which launched March 27 at midnight.

Monique Mead, violinist and Director of Music Entrepreeurship at CMU will preside over  the  "Playing with Food" Dinner on Wednesday, March 22nd at the Smallman Galley on Smallman Street. Four courses from each virtuoso chef will meet musical performances by the talented students of Carnegie Mellon School of Music. In addition to our chefs' stellar dishes, the showcase of each course will be four original compositions by Evan Neely--created to match their culinary stylings. There will be music by Mozart and Kuhlau, Simon and Garfunkel and the Beatles and Haydn. Jana Lange, flutist and Masters student working with Lorna McGhee will be in the ensemble. They joined Geoff Zak General Maanger of the Smallman Galley to run down the menu and explain what they are cooking up.

Virginia Johnson is the Artistic Director of Dance Theater of Harlem. She joins Pittsburgh Ballet Artistic Director Terrence Orr to talk about their two week residency at the August Wilson Center and the many events relating to the stay. She describes the special mood of Harlem and the company with its history and financial challenges. The two talk about their many collaborations including the premiere of Fall River Legend with Agnes Demille and Morton Gould. They talk about their efforts to bring the dance world a more colorful diverse feel, the music they will be dancing to, the premiere event at the August Wilson Center, the filmed ballets Virginia has starred in and much more.

Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre joins forces with Dance Theatre of Harlem for an exciting collaboration at the August Wilson Center including seven performances and numerous community events including a panel discussion on March 16 moderated by WQED’s Darryl Ford-Williams. CEO Harris Ferris explains the plan with Christina Salgado,  Director of Education and Community Engagement to talk about the variety of community events taking place. BNY Mellon sponsors the premiere party where you can meet a dancer and there is a screening of a film on the long list of happenings.

The Renaissance City Winds perform music from WQED-FM's Collaborative Commision project with Efrain Amaya and Nathan Carterette plays Roussel and Saint Saens  at CMU in the Kresge Theater  Sunday March 12 at 7pm. Nathan Carterette and James Whipple fouding bassoonist for the ensemble discuss and introduce Whipple's transcription of Wiliam Byrd and Amaya's Sidewalk Divertimenti, discuss the history of the ensemble and more.

Edward Leonard directs the Pittsburgh Philharmonic in Sibelius Finlandia with the Warlock Capriol Suite involving dancers from Laroche College plus Dvorak’s Serenade for Winds and Young Artist Concerto Competition Winner- Enoch Hsiao plays the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 2. March 24th and 25th.  Board Chair Carolyn Carlins plays violin in the Philharmonic and provides commentary on the plan from the players view.

Belle Voci presents a concert on Saturday March 11th, 7:30pm at the Pentacostal Temple Church of God in Christ in East Liberty.  The concert is titled "Lift Every Voice and Sing."  WQED-FM's Jim Cunningham chats with conductor Craig Cannon about the concert.

Resonance Works presents "Side by Side by Sondheim" this weekend at Levy Hall at Rodef Shalom.   WQED-FM's Anna Singer talks to some of the artists involved in the concerts.

Clem Rolin, Music Director and flutist Jamie Kasper reveal the delights of the West Hills Symphonic Band 50th Anniversary concert.  The  Gala Concert occurs at the  original venue, Montour High School on Sunday March 5, 2017 at 3:00pm. West Hills is the oldest community symphonic band in the Pittsburgh area.
