Lyn and James Perry (of ATC) are both performing in the Jazz Cafe event on CMU's campus in Alumni Concert Hall (CFA) at 7:30 on Feb 16th. The event is about women in jazz and overall diversity within music. All ticket sales will benefit ATC, a non-profit organization that gives urban youth a platform to express their art. Tickets are $12 at the door.

The Diamante Trio with soprano Lilli Abreu give a free concert at the Campana Chapel Finoli Drive in Greensburg Pa for the University of Pittsburgh featuring music by Latin American composers Wednesday February 15 at 4pm. Devin Arrington violinist in the Westmoreland Symphony and composer and teacher joins Pittsburgh Opera Principal Clarinet May Beth Malek and Pittsburgh Opera Orchestra cellist Paula Tuttle to play Gade,Piazzola, Abreu and Gardel in the WQED-FM Studio.

The CMU Contemporary Ensemble conducted by Daniel Nesta Curtis give premieres of music by  exciting young composers and a modern classic by Steve Reich March 8 with the CMU Philharmonic at Carnegie Music Hall in Oakland. Composer Marina Lopez born in Mexico City, says she benefited greatly from knowing David Stock at Duquesne University and greatly enjoys her work with Leonardo Balada at CMU. Her new piece Fish will be heard along with Hedonism by Andrew Dewey who works with Nancy Galbraith. Both composers fill us in on why you should be there and how it might change your life. They will also lead a discussion during the intermission of the concert.

Mendelssohn Choir Music Director Matt Mehaffey tells us about the Pittsburgh premiere of "Annalies" by James Whitbourne at Rodef Shalom Temple February 25th with soprano  Amelia D’arcy. The music is a setting of words from Anne Frank’s diary with the choir and instrumentalists.

Thomas Douglas leads the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh in the rarely performed Randall Thompson "Requiem" this Saturday and Sunday February 11 and 12 at the First Presbyterian Church in downtown Pittsburgh. Maestro Douglas describes the special features of the Thompson composer for double chorus a-capella, the Bach Choir and his upcoming Ragtime production at CMU, plus a conversation about diversity in classical music and Black History Month.

Maria Sensi Sellner and violist Jason Hohn fill us in on "In Excelsis," the concerts Thursday February 9th and Saturday February 11th at the Third Presbyterian Church with an American premiere of "Gloria" by James Macmillan along with his "Cecilia Virgo" and "Seraph," Neal Berntsen of the Pittsburgh Symphony playing the  "Prayer of St Gregory" by Allen Hovhaness, Verdi’s "Ave Maria" and "Flos Campi" by Vaughan Williams. Russell Weismann plays the organ, while the Festival Chorus and Pittsburgh  Youth Chorus sing. Topics include what it was like working with the composer at rehearsal.

The Carnegie Mellon Contemporary Ensemble will present a world premiere of the Nancy Galbraith Violin Concerto written for CMU alum Alyssa Wang at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in East Liberty on Wednesday February 8th at 8pm in a Free concert conducted by Daniel Curtis. The program also features music by Ingram Marshall including his Fog Tropes inspired by the sounds of the San Francisco bay. Alyssa Wang credits Nancy Galbraith with musical and life inspiration as both participated in women’s marches in Washington and Boston. Nancy Galbraith explains her thinking regarding the concerto and both provide the latest news from the new music world!

Chatham Baroque theorbo virtuoso Scott Pauley and violinist Andrew Fouts discuss their concerts February 3-5 - "When Love Enflames A Heart" - with guest Pascale Beaudin, soprano, Stephen Schultz, flute and Andrew Appel, harpsichord. They have the latest news from Chatham Baroque on tours and recordings plus a complete rundown of the differences between German, Italian and French baroque style.  Plus why do they play strings which originate in the digestive system of a sheep.

Pianist Jack Kurutz performs  the Schubert Sonata No 21 in B flat D. 960 and Gaspard de la Nuit by Maurice Ravel for the Tuesday Musical Club on January 31st, 1pm in Levy Hall Rodef Shalom Temple. The concert is free with a reception to meet the artist after. In this podcast, he talks about his path from Miami to Pittsburgh with a stop in Boston. His work with the Living Room Chamber Music Project, Pittsburgh Music Academy, private teaching and much more.
