Brittany Holland, Founder and CEO of Blooming B. she is also a Certified Life Coach and Mental Health Advocate working with women. Brittany name was given as one of Hampton Roads Influential People by some of her peers. When asked how did she feel when she learned that some of her peers looked up to her she stated "honestly it throws me for a loop in a since because you don't know the impact you have on others until they tell you" As being a Life Coach she applies what she has learned with herself first because she feels the only way she can help others is to challenge what she had going on personally. Brittany states that she likes to "speak from experience" this allows others to be able to see themselves within her and be able to connect with them. As a Mental Health Advocate she works with women and younger girls as she wants them to understand that they are special, put themselves first and what they values are also to be satisfied with the decisions that you make. Mentoring brings such joy to her, melts her heart and for them to verbalize how it has impactful and the change it has brought to their lives. Brittany states that her 3-5 year goal... This episode is 1 of 3 episodes for One of Hampton Roads Influential People.
@Katrinia Freeman who organized Keep Va Warm- this organization gives out hats, gloves, coats, food and ect. as well as help facilitate them with housing. Although it has been one year this month the amount of people that they have helped along the way is great. Katrinia a mother of three young men seems to balance everything that she has going on with such grace. Some of them have shared with her as to why they are homeless and it tugs at your heart strings. No matter why a person is homeless EVERYONE deserves to be treated with RESPECT and not spit at or have objects thrown at them. She loves what she does and in the years to come she wants to own her own homeless shelter to service people throughout Hampton Roads. While in Norfolk the homeless people were staying in the parking lot of Greyhound Bus Station when the city wanted them to leave but at the same time no resolution was offered to help them. At this time Katrinia and a few of the volunteers were prepared to stay outside and risk being arrested for failure to leave the premises. Because of this act the city decided to get involved and purchase a hotel to house over 100 of homeless people. The organization doesn’t want monetary help but rather you provide items such as toiletries, clothing, food and etc. This episode had US as the cast felt like we aren’t doing enough to help our community. Jan. 17, 2022 this organization will be giving out items to those in need. If you would like to donate please inbox their page Keepvawarm

“Rolling back 2021” Gam and Mz_Gogetta have unapologetic and unfiltered conversations about if you could change something about 2021 what would it be. As the conversation continued we also shouted out all of the business owners who advertise with us in 2021 and our 2022 advertisement and sponsorship packets are hot of the press for this year. Vision boards are good and especially doing with others can be fun and inspirational. While some people do New Year Resolution however; we both actually agreed that we have done it in the past but it never really worked out. Since Covid-19 we believe that the level of anxiety of others have skyrocketed and some may even have PTSD. Gam feels that we are going back on lockdown because of the high rate of cases due to Covid but of course Mz_Gogetta feels totally opposite. 2021 crimes have increased tremendously and the question that Mz _Gogetta asked was Do you feel like Covid is the cause of this crime? Stop calling you business, podcast, store and etc. stop calling it “lil” stop thinking that what you’re doing is small and not really making a lot of money. Tune in as we talk about several different topics at the same time.Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/wait-a-gam-minute-podcast.

Darrell Redmond stops by Wait A Gam Minute Studio
“Mr. Give Back to Da Block” Darrell Redmond a native of Portsmouth, Va. did over 25 years on and off in the prison system. Although he faced a “whole lotta hardships, whole lotta problems, whole lotta drama, did a whole lotta time but made a conscious effort to change”. While in prison he continued to live the same lifestyle. In 2013 his grandmother passed so he decided to make a change although he been wanted to do that but he wasn’t sure how. While doing four and half years in solitary confinement the prison officials wanted him to use his influence to better the other men within the population. Upon being released he spoke briefly with “big homie” of his how he was feeling and what he wanted to do. After they did a couple of events within their city (Portsmouth) the birth of Give Back to Da Block. Redmond states that helping people is therapy for him, when he sees a kid smile it motivates him. When you follow your passion, you find your purpose and he lives by that. Redmond says that he isn’t a Community Activist but he is a “Community Actionist” because he is out in the community actually doing something.
The reason he came up with Give Back to Da Block is because he was part of the problem to what’s going on now by selling drugs, shooting, robbing and etc. He feels in some way the youth we’re affected by his previous actions. What better way to give back to the areas in which you committed bad acts then to go back and effect the block with positive actions. Surrounding cities have called and ask that he come and help with violence in certain areas. Redmond works with a team of people and believes that we must work together to get the job done because you can’t do it alone. We have to stop working within side our circle but we can’t get to the next level that we. We must educate ourselves and our people knowledge is power.

“Gangs, Drugs & Violence” James Dildy and Eugene Boone are friends from school but they both abused drugs, participated in criminal activity and went to jail. James started with abusing alcohol after his then girlfriend committed suicide. Due to her untimely death he began to spiral out of control which lead him into smoking a “banger” which is blunt with crack cocaine. He used drugs for about 13 years on and off. Eugene began to use drugs while in high school before graduating he had 3 kids and his own apartment. Trying to provide for his family he began to sell drugs which later he began to use drugs from crack cocaine to herion. Over the years Eugene was involved in gang activity fast forward he is no longer active and has since been “respected out”. Doing time in jail and several felled attempts of getting cleaned for others such as his kids or girlfriends he kept using drugs. Both young men were honest, forthcoming and very transparent about some of the things they have been through. While they both used drugs they only got high together once. Moral of the story in order to get clean you have to want it for yourself. You have to be honest and willing to put in the work. You may have to change your people, places and things. Some may need counseling or rehab. Eugene overdosed and was in a coma for seven days meanwhile; the doctor told his family that he had a 25% chance of making it. Hopefully through their life story they maybe able to save someone else’s life.Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/wait-a-gam-minute-podcast.
