We are thrilled to bring you a horrifying, but happy ending filled story for once! A true story of grit and determination--- with a solid dose of badassery that we haven't seen before--- Loren is bringing us the survival story of Mary Vincent.
On September 29, 1978, Mary was kidnapped while making her way from Las Vegas, NV to Berkeley, CA. After a night of torture, abuse, and mutilation, Mary clawed her way to freedom and Interstate 5, walking for over three miles, naked, covered in blood, and armless, before finding and alerting a passing couple, who took her to a hospital.
Six months after her assault, Mary faced her assailant, Lawrence Singleton, in the courtroom. Though only sentenced to fourteen years--- the maximum sentence allowed by California law at the time--- the presiding judge remarked, "If I had the power, I would send him to prison for the rest of his natural life."
Join us this week for the whole story and the happy ending that came of this horrifying story. We promise, no matter how terrible it gets, there really is a silver lining for Mary!
