Luke Grants is joined by Dr Michelle Ananda-Rajah, general medicine physician at The Alfred, to discuss her report that reveals that elderly Australians are dying in hospital of hypothermia developed living in their own homes.

The study, conducted across The Alfred and Sandringham emergency departments, found 217 people were presented with hypothermia between 2009 & 2016.  Of those, 11 per cent tragically died. 

Nearly 80 per cent of the patients were found indoors and were more likely to be elderly with several health conditions.

Dr Ananda-Rajah says an influx of people suffering hypothermia during the winter of 2015 – the coldest experienced in Victoria in 26 years – alerted doctors to the problem.

Luke Grant talks to Ewin Hannan, workplace editor for The Australian about his article (co-authored by Richard Ferguson), about the ongoing battle between the Victorian CFMEU secretary John Setka & Labor.

He writes ‘embattled union boss John Setka has threatened to legally challenge his expulsion from the Labor Party and halt all donations to the Opposition from his rogue branch of the construction union.’

‘Mr Setka claims today he is being forced out of Labor for making similar funding threats after the party’s poor federal election result.’

‘The Victorian branch of the Construction, Forestry, Mining, Maritime and Energy Union has donated nearly $1 million since Mr Setka took charge in 2012.’

In 1950 she started the Southern Hemisphere's first personal development school in Sydney to train young women in etiquette & deportment.

A year later, she started Australia's first model agency, modelling school & later established a Business Finishing College.

She remains Australia's best known expert in etiquette & elocution though now also dividing her time teaching etiquette to women in China.
