Michael is joined by Chiang Lim, CEO Australian Childcare Alliance New South Wales, to discuss Bill Shorten’s announcement yesterday that if Labor wins the upcoming election it would spend $4 billion helping nearly 900,000 families struggling to pay child care bills.

 

Mr Shorten says his proposal will cut annual costs for child care by up to $2100 per child for families earning up to $174,000 a year.

 

Commencing from July next year at a cost of $4 billion over three years, his pledge to assist 887,000 families will also include the  Australian Competition & Consumer Commission being instructed to monitor “excessive fee increases” by child care businesses to prevent prices going up to gouge the extra assistance to parents.

Few jobs rival the physical demands of sheep shearing, so New Zealand-born shearer Lou Brown’s grueling effort to shear 497 sheep is even more impressive given that he broke the previous record of 466 set in 2003… a feat that he attributes to years of practice and months of physical training & meditation.

 

Michael is joined by Judge Bart Hadfield from the World Sheep Shearing Records Society who traveled from New Zealand to adjudicate and verify the record attempt.

It was revealed yesterday that the Labor Party are putting forward a change to the Parental Visa which has been capped at 15,000 places.  They’ve slashed the fee and will remove the cap.

Luke Grant is joined by the Hon. Kelvin Thomson, former Federal Member for Wills now advisor for Sustainable Australia Party for his opinion on whether this a good thing or not a good thing…

An alliance of well-known Australians has launched a centre-right political machine in a bid to rival union-backed activist group GetUp! and vowed to campaign as a registered third-party organisation against the Left ahead of this year’s election.

The group, Advance Australia, will run its first major campaign against Labor’s plan to scrap ­imputation dividend refunds, the so-called retiree tax, as well as a grassroots movement to keep Australia Day unchanged.
