Patience is so beautiful. I overlooked it for many years and I pray you find its beauty soon. The word patience for me has felt weary, yet I pray you can come to see the grace and power of it and come to desire it. I pray for it here in the sense of unhurriedness and gentleness, but of course there are other rich landscapes of patience to explore.

This is a prayer for freedom and grace to interact with social media in healthy ways. Social media is a powerful amplifier of fears and discontentment, and this prayer is for the freedom to interact with other people in human and loving ways, to help them and serve them and encourage them from a stable center of being loved by God and deeply satisfied in him.

This prayer comes from thinking about how Jesus talks about food and drink in the sermon on the mount. It also comes from the idea that we use many kinds of things to dull ourselves to our pain and inner thirst for God, and food and drink is one of them.

This prayer was written by Reinhold Neibuhr. My friend Ian introduced me to the full prayer, which helped me see the beauty of it. Before that, I had known only the first few lines, which although beautiful, seem somewhat more like a platitude without the rest of it.

Is there anything better you can imagine to ask for? I often think that this is the one thing that would bring peace to our many sources of anxiety, pain, thirst, emptiness: having a more intimate, trusting and joy-filled relationship with the Holy Spirit in our hour by hour ordinary lives.

I wrote this blessing for my god-daughter Quinna. I also have music that goes with it, of which there are a few recordings on YouTube and Bandcamp. The prompt I was working with was “what is the best thing I can imagine for this child?”

This is drawn from 1 Corinthians 13:13. The prayer for love is also drawn from a prayer that is used at the end of the “Daily Holy Spirit” episodes in Hallow.

I considered what other metaphors might make sense for Faith and hope and came up with light and water.

This is a way to pray the Lord’s Prayer for someone you love. As many people wiser than me have noted, all prayer has a place within the Lord’s Prayer, so there are many other ways you could do this. You could pray for many things inside a single petition. The Lord’s Prayer is found in the gospel of Matthew, chapter 6, verses 9-13.

My example prayer is for Anthony, a man I met at a coffee shop in June of 2025.
