The Constitution's Framers foresaw that even with the checks and balances in place, there would be a day when the Federal Government would exceed and abuse it's enumerated powers, placing our freedom and liberty at risk so they gave the people the power to reign in the Federal Government by giving the States the ability to propose and ratify amendments without the approval of Congress or the President.  This power is clearly stated in article V and it might be our only way to save this great nation.
